In the episode "Newbie Dash", we get to see how "mature" the Wonderbolts are. It's clear to me that they could take in talents like Lightning Dust if it fits their agenda. It's easy to fail to see when somepony is good at something, but lack the friendship and compassion part. The show made it clear she was evil somewhat, but I have seen worse
