Christian bronies: meet, greet, and mingle!

Two biggest commandments according to Jesus are "Love God with all your hearth and soul" and "Love your neighbor as yourself". The part with loving your neighbor is likely a translation of the golden rule, do unto others as they would have done unto you. So basically dont be a jerk to people for random reasons because how would you feel if that happend to you?

Or i atleast feel you should atleast do stuff you do as you would like to be done unto you in terms of loving yourself. I think common sense is the answer to what you would not like others to have done unto you. Seems to be a legit thing to use.

God has a funny way of reminding us that we're only human. He humbles us in ways that we don't expect. While I may not like them at first, I have made it a habit of appreciating them. They're just the wake-up call I need sometimes. :twi:

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

~Matthew 7:7-8

I hope everyone had a wonderful Wednesday. I love this verse very much because it is so applicable to everyday life.

I have learned over the years that when you don't know something or need help the best way is to ask. I know this may seem like common sense but there are many, including myself, that have had a question or needed an answer and didn't ask. I can't tell you how many times this was the case with me, and many of my fellow peers in school; where a professor goes over something and at the end of the lesson asks if anyone has any questions yet no one raises their hand so the professor moves on. In truth, there are usually a lot who have a question or need clarification but are too shy to ask.

Quick story: I remember one time when I visited a professor of mine during office hours, it was after I got a test back and I saw I did poorly on a particular subject. After she explained it me I told her how much more sense that made and she asked me why I hadn't raised my hand when she asked if there were any questions and I said that I was too shy since no one else did so as well. That's when she told me how she used to be the same until she too talked to a professor of hers when she was a student. She said that the professor told her to always ask during class because if she had a question that means someone else likely does to. She told me that at first it was awkward because she was the only one that asked questions and at times felt like she was asking too many. But soon she received a lot of thanks and support from other students who they themselves were too shy to ask. That really changed my perspective on asking questions in class, work, and in general.

So if you have a question for God, or your professor, you should ask and seek what you wish to find.

God bless you all and Merry Christmas!

I'm not, but I sound like a Bible thumper by yuroopor standards because my school was a Christian school. Christian people can be pretty dumb and cringy at times, but to be fair the fedora Atheist movement can be even worse.

@@Brightbart,

I really wish you hadn't said that. Look I'm fine with discussion as well but part of the reason this thread has lasted this long is just as much because it's a relative sanctuary as much as the courteousness of the regular posters such as Sunwalker, Blue, and others. Welcoming people who are outside the religious spectrum to "discuss" seems like it could majorly backfire. Not that there haven't been non-religious posters who have been respectful but the more there are, the more chances for conflict. For a thread that has been, for the most part, completely civil and actually nurturing, it just seems risky is all.

I edited the post. After reflecting on it you're right it's probably best not to leave an open invite. There's a reason other threads tend to go poorly. I figured that only serious people would actually visit, that's probably naive to think.

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is staying safe from the snow and blistering cold temperatures (back home, it currently feels like -1 degrees Fahrenheit).

I went to a Christian homeschool co-op and it was great. Great people, great amount of accepting people too also. The only thing that they had that was strict, and they had to do due to the Internet connection being paid for by the church it was in, was telling people to stay off certain sites, and some sites that you could visit in a public school let's say. I imagine MLPF would be one of those they would consider not allowed. But other than that, it was a really good experience!

Forgive me if it seems like I'm punishing that faith placed in other's hands. As I said, we should welcome alternative viewpoints but the evidence displayed elsewhere on the site, to my disappointment, conveys a rather hostile view of faith rather than a simple lack of it. Would be nice if we could get some devout Jews or honestly practicing Wiccans. We keep saying how "Christianity =/= all religions" but we are the majority by far and that can be isolating sometimes. Doesn't allow for much comparison and exchange.

@@Megalomaniac,

Well to his credit, I kind of know what he means. Going to Catholic school as a young boy, the nuns could get rather draconic with discipline. One in particular was disbanded from teaching a year after I moved on from her.

Today was pretty chilly, it snowed yesterday so we're currently getting the after storm chill. Can't complain though, I like snow.

I went to a private Lutheran school for a bit(all my cousins on my mother's side went there) but I wasn't a very good student(was quite mischievous back then) so I was soon moved to public school after 2 years haha. Funny enough when I went there they said my behavior was superb but my academic level was subpar. My cousins all did well though so it was probably just me.  ^_^

After having grown up Lutheran, becoming an atheist, then deist, I am happy to say I have come to call myself Christian once more. It has been a bit of a journey since the spring, but one I have enjoyed and embraced. I digress though, I am not here to talk of my past, but I'd like to meet and talk to some new folks.  :)

Ahhh that's a shame because that sounds like a really interesting journey. Nevertheless, welcome and Merry Christmas to you! Steel Accord, one of the frequent contributors to this thread.

It's not too intricate or a particularly "dramatic" (For lack of a better term), but I just want to avoid a massive wall of text if possible. :P

Thank you!

Something really caught onto my mind recently. The story about the sheep and the shepard in John is interesting

Could you recount the specifics and what is interesting about them?

Ah I see. Fair enough. Welcome besides. This thread is great to talk to if you ever need spiritual counsel (and a priest/preacher is not on hand obviously.) Or just to talk about theological or scriptural stuff that one finds interesting or worthy of talking about.

It's 3 degrees (Fahrenheit) back home - where I am right now it's gonna be in the 60's.

I had the exact opposite effect with public school. I went to the middle school for 3 months, and they downright refused to give help I needed in classes. It was all because one of the people that handles that said I didn't have what I really do have (high functioning autism) and went on to say that the doctor was completely wrong - when they were no doctors themselves. I think it was a blessing that I eventually found the place I went to and graduated from.

Heh, it was a windchill of -9 this morning when I walked to class, however it was the first time I had seen the sun in about 2 weeks so I was pleased  ^_^

That sucks about the school situation though I'm glad everything worked out for you. Life can sure have its struggles some times.

Speaking of public school, my local school district is being threatened with a lawsuit for removing a pro-life display, despite having permission:

What are your thoughts on this, especially how Christian people are very much pro-life usually?

To be honest. I've been feeling pretty sad lately over nothing.

I try to open my heart up to God and even pray to him for me to be happy. But I don't feel his response in me.

I can't even connect with him through the Bible very well.

Can someone explain why this is happening?

In this life we are subject to all its limitations and constraints. Even Jesus, when he walked among us, was subject to difficult moments. What you described reminded me about two moments of his life: first when he was alone in the desert being tempted, and second when he was in the cross and felt that the Father had abandoned him. But how could you learn about what is good and is bad if only good stuff happened? Those things are what make we mature in the long run. And what are those moments in comparison with what is to como in Heaven?

The one thing that was promised to us was the salvation, it was never promised a trouble free life. Faith isn't supposed to be a "feelgood" experience, it is supposed to be a relationship with God. Sometimes God might temporarily suspend the consolations so we might learn to focus on seeking him, instead of the good feelings that come with it. It is necessary a greater effort to seek God when you cannot feel him, and it also counts more.

That being considered, one cannot rule out that what you are feeling is also a product of some emotional problem. In this case, it is necessary to seek out the cause.

Something really caught onto my mind recently. The story about the sheep and the shepard in John is interesting

I am assuming that you are talking about John 10. That is an interesting passage. The sheep know the voice of their shepherd, and they do not follow the voice of a stranger, one that might steal them.

God gave each person a conscience, so people can know what is right from what is wrong. If there is someone saying something that does not come from God, something inside you tells that something is off with his words. On the other hand, you can also know when someone say someone says something that comes from God, there is a different light to his words.

That is how the ones with Christ can know his voice :)

That is the sort of stuff that get me riled up. The big irony here is that freedom of speech comes from Christianity, it was Christianity what formed the culture and values of the Western Civilization. It is Christianity that teaches that individuals have free will, and this should be respected. It was Christianity what gave people the right of not being Christian. Things are different in other parts of the world, I bet that those who so "courageously" attack Christianity would not do the same with Islam if they lived in a Muslin country. I wonder why...

Anyways, freedom of speech isn't free, it need to be fought for. When someone is meeting resistance from his enemies, that's how he can be sure that he is going on the right path. The enemies of God have no honor, otherwise they would not be enemies of God. Therefore one must be ready to fight them. One thing is someone just not being a Christian, a completely different thing is someone not allowing others to be Christian. In this case a line was crossed, it is the non-Christians who are not respecting the free will of the Christians. Therefore it is justified to do what is allowed within the Christian morals in order to combat them.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 tends to pop into my head a bit more during Christmas time, I wonder why  :please:

Are there any verses that y'all think about more during Christmas time?

Hello, @Handsome Changeling. I presume that you had a bad day or something, I know how that feels. I can say one thing, seeking attention in a negative manner makes one empty in the long run. It is like a pyrotechnics show, feels "great" for a couple of moments and then quickly ends. And on the top of that, swearing doesn't really surprise anymore because it got quite common.

Know what surprises? Selflessness. Like taking some moments to brighten other people's day. It just take some simple actions like wishing someone a good day, appreciating the efforts of others, being thankful for even the simple things, being educated or helping other people. Negativity burns people out because we were not made for that. Sometimes all what takes to revert anxiety, depression, or even boredom is just a change of attitude.

Thank you for making me to think about it, I hope you have a better day :)

Recently I found out I'm starting to enter a new stage in my life, and it's beginning to feel good.

Because. I've always wanted to project my life into others. Whether it's my distance running stories, life lessons, or Christ I am getting the opportunity to become a leader to my church's high school camp on the Stockton river delta.

I grew up going there and witnessed the most amazing things ever. But being able to be a leader and knowing younger kids, just is amazing dream that can come true
