I highly doubt the MLP staff is gonna end their cartoon pony show by killing off a major character, let alone three of them. I could see some kind of scenario where maybe he get's trapped or turned back to stone to protect the Mane Six, some sacrifice that get's undone by the end but I doubt they're killing him or anypony else off.
