gaming PS4 announced

I agree i don't like the price tag of the PS4 either i don't think it should cost $500 ( my opinion of course ) i think it should cost like

$299 - $370? ( again my opinion )

Well considering the 8 core CPU, 8GB of Ram, controller, etc I think it is safe to say that $299-$370 isn't happening. This thing will probably be a minimum $400.

True true i don't really like the controller honestly mainly just because of the touch pad... urggghh it seems like a gimmick just hope they don't force the thing too much i'm already expecting microsoft to force the new kinect with the new xbox

Although I'm a PC gamer myself, I have owned the PS2 back in the days and played on my friend's PS3 quite a lot. I gotta say though, the things I heard so far are pretty impressive.

A few things that especially interest me are the abilities such as being able to stream games using Gaikai, the fact that it is gonna allow second-hand games instead of not allowing it like rumours suggested, and the specs sound very good too.

I can say that, if I would ever need to make the choice, I'd go for the PS4 and not the still-to-be-announced Xbox 720.

I really like the controller, it looks really nice and hopefully it works as good as it looks. The touch pad on the Vita is good and it looks like they're using the same technology on the controller. It's shame we haven't seen what the console itself will look like.

As for the console, I have no real reason to get it which is a shame as I like the Playstation exclusives a lot. The social add ons just seem far too gimmicky for me and the new specs aren't even better than my mid range gaming PC which I love. I reckon it will probably be a lot more expensive than the Wii U and I don't think the PS4 innovates enough to tease me away from my PC.

Kind of a slap in the face towards Playstation fans to show the controller and games, but not the actual console, yeah?

That's what Nintendo did with the Wii U. Showed off the controller and the console was more of an afterthought.

I feel like the controller is going to have a less than stellar battery life because of everything that they stuffed in it. Unless they packed a beefy battery in it. I am interested in the PS4 and Xbox "720". It looks like both will run on almost exactly the same hardware, which would make it easier on developers to make multiplatform games. It's nice that they are releasing by the end of the year, probably to try and get a jump on Microsoft. I'm really just going to wait for E3, I'm sure all the details will be presented there for both the PS4 and the Xbox "720". Because I am in college, I will probably wait a bit before I get any new console. I just wish Sony at least showed a picture of what their new system looks like.

The features and some of the games pleased me(Deep Down remind anyone of Demon's Souls)?

A bit confused why they showed the controller but not the console nor pricing...guess they want to have something for E3 at least?

So what... nobody but me disliked that they plan to livestream everything you do and download whatever games they want onto your console without asking? While having built-in hardware for recording and streaming is great, I'd like more control and less emphasis on keeping you in your own friend group.

I'm hopeful that Microsoft can avoid the unnecessary social integration in favor of lower cost and/or higher performance, though if the internal recording hardware has zero throughput lag I'd call that a pretty great feature.

I think its gonna be a while before anyone starts really buying a ps4 because it does pretty much exactly what a ps3 does.  The only thing that interested me was being able to record and upload video footage but thats not enough for me to buy a console on.  Graphics wise, it's a decent jump I guess but not enough for me to genuinely care letalone buy the system before some games come out that I couldn't do without.  Which might be a while.  More than likely.  I mean I'm gonna need 5 or 6 good games before I can warrant spending 500 bucks on something thats only marginally better than the system before it.

Destiny and Killzone - yay, more first person shooters.  Wish I could be more excited about that; they do look pretty though - but so does Crysis and I get bored of looking at scenery pretty fast.  Maybe if theyre innovative first person shooters?  Na, not likely.

Nintendo is smart.  Maybe they saw the industry stagnating years ago and thats why they went with the Wii, so that when the generation after came around they could market their WiiU as a huge graphical leap for Nintendo games.  And it comes with a nice tablet touch screen too.

So my honest opinion of the ps4 is while its a nice piece of technology Im predicting its going to sell far worse than the WiiU.  5 or so decent games may help sell the system but I don't think graphics are going to be a viable selling point for much longer.

But who knows.  If the Next CoD comes out for it every 14 year old and their babysitters will probably get one to use as a status symbol

I'm excited about the release of the PS4.

Even if I wasn't I'd get it, with my bad habit of just wanting it like the WiiU. Which atm is just sitting collecting dust.

Its going to be one of those, save up now, and buy the system on release though. Price tag so far is no problem for me, I have graphics cards that cost as much as the PS4  :P

I like how I can buy PC that's more powerful than this thing for the same price they're selling their "deluxe" models for. $430/$530 is still a bit away from the $600 the PS3 retailed for on release, but it's still more than many will want to pay for a console.

Really? Show me some links. Prove to me that $530 can get me a PC with graphics that are "more powerful than this thing (PS4)". Or even one that is on par with PS360.

ok, the build from the vid is ~$550

also a few months old, but still possible

and it is faster and has better visuals than the current gen systems (ps3, WiiU and 360)

so I'd guess it'd be better than the PS4 and next gen too

I'm guessing this is a desktop PC that does not come with its own monitor, obviously fair enough since game consoles don't come with monitors, let alone TVs.

Does this come with an operating system at least? Or is that just another thing that would be unfair to factor in to the cost since consoles don't have "actual computer" operating systems?

....and... where is my keyboard and mouse? You know, the thing I actually control the games with? Unless you think that most people just have those lying around the house (not everyone does), That's at least $30 for a wired keyboard and mouse.

What is your opinion on KBM vs console game controllers? Not all genres of games are best controlled with a mouse. And gamepads cost extra.

Funny thing about this video? The total price for these parts will probably drop by another $100 or so by the time the PS4 releases.

OS doesn't matter. Linux is free, is easily more feature-filled than any console OS, and this machine will still probably run any game under Windows emulation better than its console counterpart.

done

again few months old (video), but if you go to newegg and follow the build a bit you get the idea.

$99 OS

$25 Keyboard & Mouse

and room for some future upgrades too if you want

To be Honest, i thtink Microsoft is probably running around like a chicken without its head right now. They are probably trying to get the Xbox 720 out now that they announced the PS4. The Xbox 360 and the PS3 did come out the same year i believe. I think titwas both 2005. Correct me if I'm wrong but i do think it was close.

Idk if I'm gonna get it to be Honest. Depends if my friends get it or not. My friends all play Xbox so I'm not sure if they will get it or not. But if that Destiny game is PS4 exclusive (which knowing Bungie it probaby isn't) then that might persuade me to buy it heheh.

only because you said to correct you if you were wrong, so I'm gonna do just that :P ...

the PS3 came out a year later after the xbox 360 released in '05

and i reread your post lol

Destiny if I heard right is getting PS4 exclusive content, while the game will be released for the 360/ps3/ps4

Does the appearance really matter that much?

I'd rather have the information about its hardware and games then how its going to look like.

If that is actually what is going to happen instead of another Thailand flood that will drive the HDD prices up, then that is a legitimately good thing on your favor.

I personally don't consider myself too skeptical or traditional to avoid Linux...and I also do not already own a TV/monitor, so I could get a $90 1280x720 VGA (at least) and VGA cable for $96 (meaning I wouldn't be wasting money on another $7 at least on a decent HDMI to VGA cable, considering that not all TVs have VGA ports and this build does not have HDMI)...these two things do not apply to everybody's situation though.

so, $550 + $25 for a keyboard and mouse, that's $45 more than the upper-end PS4, but at least it has been possible to own this as of a full year before PS4 launch...

..assuming one is willing and able to build this by themselves, and do all the necessary shopping around.

Also, no Blu-Ray drive. and no motion controls/interesting things that people like to call gimmicks.

I don't think I'm being a devil's advocate, it is just that those last few non-monitor/OS-related things are legitimate compromises.

But can you at least guarantee that this build will play a PS4/Xbox 720-quality copy of Watch_Dogs or Star Wars 1313 without problems?

Not all that interested in general when it comes to Playstation but i watched the conference anyway since i was curious. Looks like a solid system to me. Almost the same design on the controller, understandable since it's already perfect for their system.

The worst thing of all things was..... no backward compatibility and that PSN purchases don't carry over. This is a huge deal in my opinion.

We've no idea what it will cost but if they put it anywhere near the early PS3 price, it's 100% sure i won't even consider getting it. :z

For now PC / Wii U / 3DS will suffice.

Wow all this time I have been hearing about the new console releases but never bothered to take the actual time to sit down and look at some of the footage. Everything I saw looks fantastic! But I'll have to look into these new consoles more before I can make any judgments.

I think I'll only be getting this for the exclusives. The only thing I actually enjoyed about the PlayStation consoles were the exclusives. Don't get me wrong that it is a bad console. I actually own the PS1, PS2, and PS3 and was raised using those. Lately, I've been getting into Nintendo things more though.

It depends if new exclusives come out, I'll be getting one. I'm especially waiting for another Uncharted, maybe Sly 5 (will be getting Sly 4 soon), another Twisted Metal, Ape Escape 4, another Ratchet and Clank, etc. :3

This is all in my opinion that I only like the PlayStation because of exclusives. Everyone has their own views, right?

EDIT: Yes, I do own a Wii U.

By the way, Sony has confirmed that they are NOT going to prevent used games (though that's not to say the publishers can't do that on their own), and are NOT going to require a constant internet connection for everything. They have also confirmed that there will be no backwards compatibility with previous systems' disks or PSN content. Basically, if you buy a PS4 at launch there will be essentially not a single thing you can do with it.

Hmm the PSN part I understand to an extent. I expect the PS4 to not be backwards compatible with PS3 retail titles. PS4 has a completely different architecture than PS3. Throwing in a Cell CPU would just add to the cost.

And tbh just keep your PS3. Are you really going to spend $400+ on a PS4 to play PS3 games?
