gaming Game graphics error HELP :'(

So I wanted to play a game I used to play all the time called The Lord of The Rings: The Battle For Middle-Earth II (or BFME2 for short) so I started the game but when t he game launched all the graphics like objects and stuff were fucked up, like this:

yQzEVNZ.jpg

It's not just in the menu, it's while playing too.

I have no clue why it's looking like this cause I have played the game many times on this computer before. Though, that was like one and a half year ago. I thought it had something with the graphic settings to do so I changed the settings to try a bunch of different ones but none of them works.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Does it matter if I have a newer verision of DirectX than the one that comes with the game? (which is DX9 I believe)

>Should have asked in another forum instead of mlpforums but whatever.

Help? This is my favorite game ever I played BFME for 7 years until the servers shut down and I want to play offline now :( :( :(

Does this happen when playing graphics intensive games like Skyrim, Black ops 2, or Battlefield 3?

If so Test your CPU and GPU for errors with 'Prime 95' and 'Fur mark' it may be time for a new GPU or CPU.

Prime95: http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/

FurMark: http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

This video explains the process.

That looks surprisingly similar to what parts of skyrim looked like on my old computer (my graphics card was in the process of melting down and gave out about a month latter). It's definitely a graphics card issue, I just don't know whether its hardware or software related. I would definitely try the version of directX that ships with the game.

And to all things comes an end. We are no more than pages in a book.

Turn the page, and thousands die. And for what? For the greed of two powerful leaders.
Turn the page and floods, earthquakes and volcanoes are destroying the world.

It is a time for acts of despair and of bravery as well.

Another turn of the page and countless refugees flee. Is this the end of the story? No.

There are countless pages to turn. And to all things comes a beginning!

The directX shouldn't be a problem... DX9 is the same no matter what, and if you're using DX11 then it will switch back to DX9... it does look like a graphics meltdown though...

Well no. The computer can easily play games like those without any problems. That's the weird thing. It should handle this game without any problems too but for some reason everything is fucked up.

Have you made any changes to the computer? change those back then... also, go into your graphics card settings and change "anti-aliasing" from "hardware/forced" to "software"

Well I have upgraded a bunch of things, but not much.

Any other suggestions? Nothing seems to work. I have tried quite a lot of things. I usually figure out these sort of problems myself but everything I try doesn't work.

Could just be the game.

Try reinstalling or re downloading it or check for updates to it.

But before trying something that drastic test your gpu with furmark for 5 minutes or so and watch for errors. If you see none its almost definitely the game.

@@Yourmomsponies,

I've reinstalled the game 2 times. I update it just after the installation. But I know that the update is really old. I believe it is from 2008. The game was killed by EA themselves at 2010 I believe. They shut down the servers and stopped updating the game.

But I have played it after that date so it should work. I have not changed graphic card or anything since. I have reinstalled windows 7 however.

The first and foremost thing you will always need to do is update the graphics card drivers.  That is the one thing that continually changes over time.  Motherboard, audio, sometimes networking drivers (not the case here) aren't really changed a whole lot.

Just remember if it's nVIDIA to check the 'clean install' option (under advanced install) for best results.

Edit: they're also the first thing to corrupt too sometimes. lol

Edit 2: After going through my archives if it's a PCI-E card the system RAM may be faulty as well; not sure if that's the case.

What do you install it with? I'm assuming it's a disc you're installing it with, yes?

yup

I loved the game so much so I actually have 3 cds of it. 2 copies of the bfme2 game and 1 bfme2 collectors edition. I've tried to install with all of them. The CDs are fine, I'm very careful to not hurt them.

nope.

The game doesn't require me to do that. As I've said I have been able to play it before on this computer. Secondly, I already have the latest drivers.

The game doesn't, the GPU manufacturers do.  And sometimes the drivers corrupt if it isn't a clean install but I have not hit that problem.

The other might be just a portion of your system RAM is bad or corruption lies elsewhere...Hmm.  However as much as I loathe to ask it's hard to go by without the OS, CPU, RAM installed, any OCs, video card any what version of the game (if it's patched or not).

Nope I think 16 Gig should work fine.

Look guys, nothing inside the computer has been changed since last time I played. The game worked just fine by then. The only thing I have done is to reinstall windows and waited 1,5 years.

That's not what I meant.  What I meant is that say you've got a 2GB video card the system will allocate 1.75GB of primary memory to go alongside the card.  Under normal computer operation if the addresses of the upper RAM is never touched then the computer will be fine.  I've just some odd cases where RAM allocated to the graphics (not to confuse with the graphic's card onboard memory) is damaged but the computer is totally stable.

All I'm trying to ask though is that for a good technical analysis we need to know what OS you are running, what CPU you are using, what graphics card you are using and what version of the game (if applicable) or any overclocks and special settings (if applicable).

Go into your graphics card settings... (not in game, you catalyst center) and disable hardware AA... should fix the problem (did for me back when I tried to run the BFME2 expansion way back in the day

Where can I find that setting? There isn't really much settings for me to change. And it doesn't say Catalyst center it just says this

Uh..... I don't speak that language, but here's what you do in Catalyst Control Center,

Start>Gaming>Image quality>Anti Aliasing

Then choose "use application settings"

that should fix it (if your problem is what I think it is)

Then you have graphics settings in a separate utility... Go to your Control Panel, Graphics Settings, Quality, and disable hardware AA

no that option doesn't exist for some reason. And there isn't any options in the ccc I think there is some problems with it or something
