Descant 1,897 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 (edited) I've been an avid reader of the Cyanide and Happiness webcomic for years. However, instead of the usual laugh, today's comic left me with mixed feelings. At first read, I thought that it was an attack on ponies. After a reread, I'm still not sure what to make of it. I'll probably read it again later when I'm fully awake and have time. Take a read. Tell me what you guys think. http://www.explosm.net/comics/3094/ Edited February 28, 2013 by Descant ♫ 2 Find the Heart of the Jungle! Still searching for players! Join today! askthetechbrony 30 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 Saw it on my tumblr page yesterday... I had no idea about it but I think it is an attack on bronies because lets face it... Everyone is against us it sometimes seems...
MrHaru 217 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 So.......the artist is frustrated that people like us exist...? Or the fact we actually have confidence to stand up for ourselves? Or....?I'm failing to see the point the comic is making.
hawkflame 3,310 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 I'm not sure *what* they're trying to say, but I don't think it's anti-brony unless the author thinks that people standing up for their right to express themselves is a *bad* thing. askthetechbrony 30 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 I don't know either but it does kind of seem to support us if you look at it a certain way but the way I see it that isn;y what they were trying to get at... <_<
ColtofPersonality 855 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 That made me chuckle lol. It didn't bash the fandom or any person in particular all it did really was make satire of how bullying is being snuffed out. Roll with the punch folks o/ 5 Look in my eyes...what do you see? StingeMuffin 244 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 (edited) Wow! Who would have thought that bullies were trying to do us a favor? Us bronies need to accept these people for who they are, instead of openly discriminating against them. Sarcasm aside, this comic strip doesn't strike me as offensive. I mean, who are they making fun of? Bronies, bullies... everyone? Edited February 28, 2013 by StingeMuffin
Viscra Maelstrom 3,718 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 it would have maybe been an attack if the whole comic revolved around bashing bronies. but here it's just named as an example of what the comic is trying to make a point of (being socially different and standing above bullies, which makes bullies sad). and really, it's Cyanide & Happiness. stuff like this is common fare in that comic. 2 Soundcloud---------Twitter---------Tumblr---------DeviantArt
Sunset Spark 60 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 (edited) Saw it on my tumblr page yesterday... I had no idea about it but I think it is an attack on bronies because lets face it... Everyone is against us it sometimes seems... "Everyone is against us it sometimes seems" does not mean "it is an attack on us because they brought up bronies"... Considering the fact a generic 'bully' is used to portray despair at being unable to bully people into regularity because they now stand up for themselves and brings up that we bronies have made a stand for our interests in MLP... DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE'RE BEING SLANDERED FOR STANDING UP FOR OURSELVES AND NOT BEING what most people call 'normal and easier to talk to'. I have to agree, bronies can be difficult to talk to. We can sometimes be too defensive of MLP, even though we already know it's not something that everyone must enjoy. We're fans BECAUSE we can enjoy it. If everyone were meant to enjoy it, there would be no purpose in calling us 'fans' since everypony would have moderately equal views on it. Short version It's not an insult. It's a statement which is actually rather true. Unless you think standing up for MLP and not letting bullies kick you around for liking MLP is an insult. p.s. the last part, "TOLERANCE", seems to be referencing tolerance for the bully rather than the mention of bronies. The 2 panels before the "TOLERANCE" part seem to be leading up to it. Well, questionable. I have seen quite often that people can be defensive even without excessive provocation. People tend to protect the things they love, even if it's just a comment that claims dislike for it. No words are greater than mine and every word already is, Hypocrisy. ~Vallo~ 409 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 (edited) I love Cyanide and Happiness. The reason I love it is because they're not afraid to make fun of anything. But I guess the comic isn't for people who can't take a joke, because that's what the comics are: JOKES. Edited July 21, 2013 by ~Vallo~ 1 Your breath stinks. duidamasterXD 9,627 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 The tone of the thing seems pretty sarcastic anyway, as the person saying that is clearly an intolerant jerk. I don't see the point in getting offended, since I feel that his attitude is the thing being mocked.

I personally find them hilarious and some are pretty clever Not everyone can stand being laughed at, dear. If someone I distinctly disliked made a bad(insulting to my pride) joke on me, it's possible I would shove my thumb down their eye rather than laugh along. I do agree that most don't seem to mean anything harsh by the joke, as there was probably little or no negative intent in them. No words are greater than mine and every word already is, Hypocrisy. WildCard 1,037 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 I've read it twice and I don't get the context towards Bronies in the text. The punchline seems to be "A person tolerating a Bully(making him feel better) by letting him bully him."Also not one of the funniest sketches because it's too complex and long for my likes and to deliver the punchline.PS: Didn't C&H made a MLP-reference in their SOPA comic? I don't think they are anti-bronies OC was made by Princess Ariona. Limey 524 February 28, 2013 Share February 28, 2013 That really isn't offensive at all. Trust me, there is a lot worse stuff out there when it comes to brony hate. If you want to see something really offensive, check out the Bronies article on Encyclopedia Dramatica. I haven't read it myself, but from previous experience with the website, it doesn't take a genius to guess what its like. Personally, I've managed to get to the stage where brony hate doesn't offend me at all, simply because of how easily it can be countered with logic and a level head. It usually ends with the hater writing 'faggot' in allcaps at least 5 times a sentence. 1 "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"
cuteycindyhoney 13,307 March 1, 2013 Share March 1, 2013 You have to agree that we wouldn't get defensive about things like this if we weren't constantly being trolled by people simply because we watch a TV show... Frankly, it isn't because anyone is watching a specific TV show. It's due to the vocal bronies with the "Mods asleep, post ponies" mentality. At the start of the fandom, Bronies hijacked many forum sites and kept trying to make them into MLP forums. The main users of the sites didn't like it one bit. It annoyed the hell out of thousands of users. It escalated to the point where Bronies became known as weird and dysfunctional. Now we have hundreds, if not thousands of "How do I convert someone into a Brony?" threads on every pony site out there, making Bronies look like some kind of radical cult members or something. This was then reinforced by all the talk of "Coming out" as a Bronie. This was misconstrued by non-fans to mean that Bronies are homosexual. (I won't go into how I personally find the "Coming Out as a Brony" thing to be demeaning and belittling to anyone who has "Come Out" as gay) The whole thing is self fulfilling. Bronies actually created the haters with their own behavior. If none of that "Post Ponies, Mods asleep" "Coming Out as a Brony" "How Do I Force Others To Be Bronies" nonsense ever happened, People would be all... "You like a cartoon about ponies? Well, I like a cartoon about a guy and his brother who's a dog, living in a weird post apocalyptic world with living candy people. Big deal!" Thank you Sparklefan1234!!! Varcolac 56 March 1, 2013 Share March 1, 2013 It's Cyanide and Happiness, they take shots at everyone. It'd like Weird Al when he does a cover, you just aren't famous until Weird Al does a cover! Same with this kinda thing, You just aren't a cultural thing until Cyanide and Happiness, Robot Chicken and one of Seth McFarland's shows make fun of you. So smile and feel happy we are included. Zygen 6,066 March 1, 2013 Share March 1, 2013 Eh, It wasn't really offensive to me, so If they actually where trying to attack us then well they did a bad job, I actually kinda chuckled at it heheh. It doesn't seem to do much but try to be humorous about a topic, it doesn't exactly take a very strong stand for either side to be honest. I wouldn't say its a very Anti brony type thing, maybe neutral on the side of anti a bit, but still. Its a bit confusing to be honest, then again maybe its just me and I just suck at reading comprehension or whatever. Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig!
