crazitaco 596 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 (edited) Today i was very surprised to learn that some people HATE cilantro with a passion. A huge amount of people hate it, actually. I was not aware its so hated. So much that there are anti-cilantro groups all over the place and there's even studies dedicated to why they hate it so much. http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2012/09/14/161057954/love-to-hate-cilantro-its-in-your-genes-and-maybe-in-your-head So i was just wondering how my fellow bronies feel about it.... Personally, i LOVE the stuff. I even used to eat it raw in small amounts just for the flavor Edited March 5, 2013 by crazitaco 1 *Click the picture to join the Nega-Bronies!* "Every cloud has a silver lining" *except for the mushroom-shaped ones which have a lining of Caesium-127, Strontium-90 and other radioactive isotopes. Krimson Dawn 17 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 This is an atrocity to human kind. I have dabbled in the culinary arts and I will say, Cilantro is a god-send of herbs, rivaling oregano. Flying Space Badger 84 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 I personally don't care much for the flavor of cilantro alone, but I do use it often in cooking. Basil on the other hand, I use that in bloody near everything I make. I do the YouTubes! I used to be a stranger 7,993 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 Cilantro is a great flavor, but I prefer dill. Dill, sweet corn, and rhubarb pie, to me, are the flavors of summer. Eighty seven characters.
Blackcat 205 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 The initial taste isn't why I hate it. it's the aftertaste that lingers in your mouth and throat. I personally detest heavy aftertastes. it's why I also dislike root beer and coffee. Skygunner 352 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 speaking as a chef (as in I am employed as a chef) cilantro often gets misused/overused. It's sorta become like the ketchup of the spice world. It has a distinct flavour profile thus is used a lot in dishes to give it a specific flavour. However, here in lies the issue. It's very very strong, and most people work with dry stuff because....well i dunno, they don't know where to buy fresh? It only takes a pinch to be able to taste it, so when you have it in everything it grows weary. I personally only use it on duck. Works well with it, just rub it in with some salt on the raw breast and grill, perfect. After that it just becomes a show stealer, I'd rather use parsley, since I can use more parsley to get better colour (it just looks prettier with more little green flecks), and not have to worry too much about ruining my other flavours. 1 -signature under construction- Going to a convention I'm going too? --- http://breakfast-tee.deviantart.com/
Clover Heart 978 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 *shudder* I can't stand cilantro. It's one of those foods that tastes to me like it's perpetually gone off, like broccoli or mushrooms. You're the most basic of jokes.
Pinkazoid 3,493 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 Well as a Mexican, Cilantro is like, something I eat on a daily basis with nearly all of my food xD I honestly don't know how you could hate it, then again, I really love herbs, spices and such on my food to add more flavor, and well, not everyone is like that xD 2 :
crazitaco 596 March 5, 2013 Author Share March 5, 2013 Hmm interesting. I just want to understand why it is that some people think it tastes like soap. They must have very different taste buds, I still can't make out any sort of "soapy" taste, it confuses me. *Click the picture to join the Nega-Bronies!* "Every cloud has a silver lining" *except for the mushroom-shaped ones which have a lining of Caesium-127, Strontium-90 and other radioactive isotopes. Starflower 323 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 Cilantro is perfect for garnising dishes, especially fish. Fish and cilantro go together like peanut butter and jelly. I always have about 4 bunches of cilantro at home, while I sometimes grow my own from the garden. So, we always have cilantro here. :3
Champion RD92 8,658 March 5, 2013 Share March 5, 2013 I really don't care for cilantro. I mean I have nothing against it, I'm just not a big fan of it, I never eat it. I don't know why there are "anti-cilantro" groups, that seems silly lol

Creamy Arty 6,252 March 6, 2013 Share March 6, 2013 Personally, I like cilantro, and while I understand there may be genetic factors or simple variations in taste that would explain most people's dislike of it, cilantro is sometimes misused. The most common offense is when people mistake it for parsley. 1 Kyoshi made this ^^ Come join us on Equestria.tv on Fridays at 6 PM Eastern for our weekly movie nights! TheTEChguy27 273 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 It's really strange, my mom detests cilantro. She says it tastes like soap. Either I've never eaten cilantro before and therefore am not aware of its apparently awful flavor, or I just don't mind it at all. It's a pretty interesting phenomenon, though. Virulence 254 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 I love cilantro. It's so tasty, and it goes with so much food. It sometimes doesn't have a taste really, but that's when you need to add something to it Signature by: http://mlpforums.com/user/17005-littlerawr/ My OC's: http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/virulence-r4617 http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/euphony-r4536
Circadian 1,273 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 (edited) I'm vegetarian, but I absolutely HATE cilantro. There's this place I like to go called Noodles and Co., and they always put a HUGE piece of fresh cilantro on top of the food. I tried eating it the first couple times, I really did, but the taste is just plain bad. Edited March 7, 2013 by Circadian
Shanks 10,816 March 7, 2013 Share March 7, 2013 I love it then again I love Mexican food in general, living in Southern California has gotten me exposed to it quite a bit so I guess I am just used to it. I love herbs and spices in general, I go through hot sauce like most people go through water. Rarity Get's Cockroaches
