Came out of the closet (I am no longer a closet brony)

That's a very good thing! It took me some time to come out to my friends too. At first they were all like "the hell dude?" but afterwards they found it okay ;)

Being a brony is being different in a way and that's incredibly good!

Good luck! /)

Let's see, my one non-brony friend showed me my first clip, which was flutterguy's rendition of evil enchantress. Then my girlfriend came out to me, hog-tying me and taping my eyes open to watch the show, which I rejected will all of my will power. And when I reconnected with my oldest friend I found out he was a brony.

Really makes it easy to come out when your the odd one out 'til that point.

Hmm... I just kinda went up to my (few) friends at school and said "OH M GOD I LOVE MY LITTLE PONY" and then proceeded to talk about it. They mostly lost interest in it after several seconds, but I don't care.

That's quite creative that you decided to "come out" with a video. It's also a great feeling as well, now you can be as open as you are. I hope your friends accept you no matter the outcome.

As for myself, I wasn't really a closet brony per se. I always tell everyone that I'm a brony. Sadly for the people I was close with in the past didn't like how I was so open about it.

This thread appears to be related to the My Little Pony franchise and/or the Bronydom in general. Thus, it has been sentenced to Sugarcube Corner.

This is an automatically generated message, by the way.

Hello!

I myself, am a closet brony. I won't say that this decision of yours is good or bad, but i don't think i'll be coming out of the closet any time soon...

Having conffessed, you are now vulnerable to many kinds of rejection, hate, and so on... It's a risk, you either find friends that like ponies, or you get burned... I myself, will not be taking that risk...

Of course, i respect your opinion, but the point of my post is to say to be careful... Don't take it to far, have some space if something were to happen...

Alright, lets see here. Coming out as gay, bi, or transgender is WAY different than coming out as a brony. People have been disowned and sent to Christian 'pray the gay away' camps because of homophobia. Dont ever compare coming out as a brony with coming out as anything else.

I love this youtube vid ^_^

Very well done indeed.

I'm out of the closet as a brony since about a month after I joined.

Pretty much all my friends accepted it and they were good so I'm happy ^_^

Although I know its hard for some people to come out to their friends as a Brony..

We shouldn't ever be afraid of it, since our community has nothing at all to be ashamed of ^_^

Thank you for saying that Amber. This is my biggest pet peeve about the fandom. I find it basically insulting that people would compare the emotional pain and suffering generated by coming out as gay, to telling people "I like a cartoon."! It makes a mockery out of anyone who's struggled with this life altering decision.

I just can't wrap my head around why people seem to think they need some kind of big deal confession that they watch a TV show. Bronies have created the perception that they are gay by using the term "Coming Out", and then complain bitterly about it. There is no other cartoon or live action show in existence generating this urge to run around telling everyone you know that you watch. To be totally blunt, nobody really cares what you watch on TV! Instead of making a video, why not say something like. "Oh, I watched that pony cartoon. It's really rather good." Frankly, I see no need to even say anything. Does anyone run around grabbing their friends and confessing "Hey, I have to get this off my chest, but I really like NCIS. I hope you don't think less of me!"

Thanks everypony for the support on the video. However i'd just like to address these negative comments. I was in no way trying to say bronyism is as stigmatic or hard to admit as homosexuality. I was only saying out of the closet as a means to a line with the phrase 'Closet Brony.' i was in no way trying to offend homosexuals who would be insulted by the fact i am in anyway comparing their plight to my no where near as important one. The video was only on youtube as i found it hard to put it on Facebook so i put it on youtube then put it on Facebook. I made the video as a way of thoroughly explaining my opinions on the show and why i liked it to get rid of any doubt in anyone's mind that i was girly for liking the show. Yet again no offense intended, i was not trying to get attention of it either. Another reason for the video was to show that i was a brony as a lot of people still think i am a big lion king fan, which just annoys me as i am actually a big brony. Hope this answered your questions.

I really think these people who are saying that bronies shouldn't use the being "in the closet comparison" because it is not as big of a deal as coming out as gay are missing the point. Yes of course it is not as big of a deal as coming out as gay and with the exception of a small minority nobody is really saying that it is but because society has attached such a huge stigma on it because it supposedly for little girls and only for little girls and thus anyone else who watches is must either be a gay, an overgrown child, or a pedophile several bronies have decided to keep it a secret to avoid this stigma. Just because someone experiences might not be as bad dosen't mean that they don't have their own challenges, I haven't been bullied specifically for being a brony but I have for other reasons in past and it is not fun.

While I myself have never been "in the closet" about it I never with the exception of making a similar video as the OP mostly because I just felt like it have never gone out of my way to tell anyone either because I feel that there is nothing and should be nothing to confess because these people are right about one thing and that is it just another show a really good show with some positive messages which many have taken to hear and a creative and friendly community but still just a show.

As for the video itself in my video I just described how I got into show, why I liked it and how my favorite character which is also Applejack and didn't really make too much of a big deal about "coming out" or anything like that both because I have never been "in the closet" in the first place and because I feel that the less of a big deal we make about it the less of a big deal non bronies with the exception of hard core haters who will hate no matter what will make of it.

  • 1 year later...

I didn't ever really have it a secret, I just never said anything about it.  My friend found out when i dressed up as Rainbow Dash for halloween.  lol

He makes fun of me for liking mlp sometimes, but I think he secretly likes it too.

I never had to "come out". Almost every single friend of mine either was, or became a brony shortly near the time I became one. My parents really couldn't care less either. My mom thought the show was cute, and my dad thought Rainbow Dash was awesome for beating starscream.

Anyways, I hope everything went well for you when you "came out".
