movies/tv Anime That Gets Unfair Hate?

Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Z Kai.

DBZ suffers from the old "it's popular, so I hate it" syndrome. While I won't deny that there are some valid complaints, I guarantee you people wouldn't make such a big deal about these complaints if DBZ wasn't as popular as it is now.

DBZ Kai gets so much unfair hate that it's not even funny. Most people judge it by the TV versions and automatically assume that it was meant to be a kid-friendly version of DBZ, but they're wrong. Kai has an uncut version on the DVD's and Blu-Rays, filled with most of the blood from the original, and much more cursing than the original uncut dub.

Oh, and even though I'm not a Naruto fan, I still think that it gets too much unfair hate.

I confess I'm guilty of rejecting Naruto and DBZ because of that popularily syndrome. Sorry :<

On another note, I generally notice BL or B/B anime gets a lot of prejudice and homophobic hate. A perfect example is "Junjou Romantica", or perhaps "Gravitation". They were both excellent but "gay love so instantly shitty. Yolo right?"

Actually one of the only gay things that don't get hate would evidently be the stereotypy that Braeburn is gay xD I don't think any bronies really have a problem with that.

It's actually difficult for me to name an anime with unfair hate that I've noticed personally. The big 3 get a lot of hate because of their popularity and that leads to some of their fans being rather pretentious about it. Every once in a while you hear that one person that claims that Naruto/ One Piece/ Bleach is the best thing that ever happened to anime and none can compare to its awesomeness.

Most of the other recent animes that I've watched don't get much hate I don't think. Well, except for Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt but given the content of that show, I expected some hate for it.

Digimon is the big obvious one.  I laugh at people putting down really popular beloved shows like Pokemon and Bleach.  When I was little, EVERYONE hated Digimon.  It's my favorite show.

That's not the reason why people hate it

People hate it because it's an "entry level"

It was supposed to be a horror anime though there isn't much horror in it

And all of the people who hate Elfen Lied say the same thing:

"Higurashi did it way better than Elfen Lied did"

I didn't even know it was supposed to be horror. I really didn't know what it was supposed to be. I also don't even know what Higurashi is.

love anime in general, and no show has ever gotten hate in my opinion.

However, if we are talking about movies, Spirited Away is my favorite movie of all time, and it's hated / unappreciated / unappreciated because the plot it weird. But, seriously, who dosen't like a dragon who sits in a pool of blood and almost dies because of a paper cut?

i feel the FMA brotherhood fanboys h8 on the original too much. yes i get brotherhood was better and closer to the manga but i think the movie following the original series is still one the best ways to finish a series ever.

my main concern however is that gunslinger girl gets the worst kind of h8 in my opinion. the only arguement i ever see a GG h8r have is that only pedophiles watch it i mean wtf i know h8rs gonna h8 but really?. that seems a bit much no?

oh and One Piece is better than naruto and bleach combined. no h8 for the other two but gosh dang is One Piece kooky. and don't we all just watch this for the lulz in the first place i know i do i mean Fruits Basket am i right?

Nwon Genesis Evangelion! Honestly, it was an amazing series, and the films are awesome too. The ending is really good IF you bother to pay attention and, if need be, read into it a bit.

People always seem to think that Miyazaki's films are under-appreciated, but every single one he's directed have been critical and commercial successes. They're just not thatwidely known in North America yet.

Wait Miyazaki's not widely known in North America

No one other than me, in my class, is a huge anime fan

But yet a lot of the people in my class know Spirited Away

And honestly where I live at, Ponyo was released into the theaters

I remembered watching it when it came out

Bleach is an expertly made anime (see signature).  In my eyes it is the best anime in the world (again see signature).  It has a good storyline, a cool main character, twists in the plot (no pun intended), and all the suspense your heart can take (what he said(see above parentheses)).  You would not believe how many people give this show the run down.  I swear I see a hateful comment against this show every time I open my web browser.  It's nuts.  I sit there and ask myself, have these people even seen Bleach?  And if they have, have they seen enough of it to even be accurate on their comments?  Either way I don't think the show deserves crud.

What you said is exactly how I feel about Dragon Ball Z. It baffles me how even though it's considered a classic, it still gets more hate than any other classic I know of. Every website I go to has DBZ bashing happening somewhere.

Oh well. I still love it.

Higurashi no naku koro ni or something, I watched the first 7 episodes and never got down to watching the rest. I need to compile a list of Anime shows to watch and just watch them all over summer break.

Aw man I love DBZ.  What's your favorite character?  Mine is Kid Buu.  He's just so awesome.  First of all he's pink.  Second of all he is hella powerful.  And third he is just plain cool looking.

My favorite is Goku. He's just such a lovable character, and he's the kinda guy you just wanna grow up to be like. Strong, pure of heart, funny, etc.

Kid Buu is probably my favorite version of Buu.

That's true, Goku is pretty cool.  His Super Saiyan 5 form is really awesome.  It's kinda hard to beat stuff as cool as that.  Do you like Cell or Frieza?

I love them both, Cell being my favorite villain out of the entire Dragon Ball franchise. Frieza is not that far behind, either.

Sword Art Online

I am not an avid reader of light novels, and I don't mix the written material with the visual series... ever. But all that this show has gotten was hatred and contempt from the fans. I do not get it.

Bleach

All I hear is how it's got too much filler, and tries too hard to be DBZ... I laugh. I laugh hard.

There are others... but these are the only ones that redily came to mind.

Sorry for not replying to this sooner, I missed yours when I last read it. (or it wasn't there).

------------------------

Sword Art Online - The novel was a bit long and swindly, most of the content from it didn't make it into the anime cut, though, that's not why it's hated.

The Anime itself, if you recall, was split into the SOA and ALO arcs respectively.

While the SOA arc was full of interesting character progression and fascinating concepts with an enigmatic villian and soul-wrenching social-moral dilemmas, the second arc, which also ended this 'first' season of SOA, was the most generic thing in anime yet.

"Dedicated hero saves beloved fiancee who is the most generic dere princess yet"

"Jealous, petty sub-villian antagonist who couldn't even compare to the main villian who had so much depth, or none at all, before"

"Ending was super lame. Sugo can afford a lab to test brains but CAN'T AFFORD A BLOODY GUN TO SHOOT KIRITO with?".

Bleach is just kinda dragging on with very dull plot lines and to-be-expected action with no interesting buildup.

It has the most generic main character. (subpar idiot with natural talent and brash manners. remind you of EVERYONE?)

Suspense? I admit it's flashy, but what suspense? It's like watching a contest of "see who gets stronger in the next 5 minutes and the one who does wins".

------------------------

Honestly, while I admit SOA does not deserve to be completely thrown apart, the reason for it's hate isn't 'unfair'. Even if the first half is excellent, the next 12 episodes being what it is, they actually sorta deserve SOME grief for that.

------------------------

There are only a few anime listed here that I have to acknowledge, have 'unfair' hate for what they are.

Dragonball. Newer anime enthusiasts will hate on it for the generation it is from. They jump straight into complications and forget the basis.

Naruto. It may have way too many fillers, however, the show itself is moderately deep.

Soul Eater. Aside from Maka's terrible voice and the stupid ending, soul eater was a moderately unique series.

Elfen Lied. As mentioned, it's petty and a bit dark in the wrong places, but still a classic.

------------------------

ADDITIONAL

One more series, I have to mention.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Yes, it gets hate.

I've been trying to share it with my newer anime friends who aren't accustomed to the 'sort of old' stuff.

Those of you who understand, though, why I find it unfair when TTGL gets labelled as a sub-par Gundam.

Calling it a MECH ANIME. Okay, it is a mech anime of sorts, though, if you understand, MECH HAS VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH THE AWESOMENESS DESPITE BEING EVERYWHERE.

I've even had people who compared it to Power Rangers because of the 'MECH COMBINE' concept.

Sadly, I agree, Strike Witches never struck me as 'deep' in any sense.

However, considering the character cast, I never saw it as something to be judged for it's plot.

Where do you find 'hate' for Strike Witches? I get that people say it has no real story or plot.

That's perfectly understandable. How is THAT supposed to be hate?

The series was CLEARLY targeted at men and had no implication for relatable detail.

Soul Eater gained perfectly valid reasons. While retaining excellent characters, they managed to screw up an ending which could have gone SO MANY WAYS by picking the one that had minimal impact.

Here, allow me to rub it in. (I have to) :

SOUL EATER DID NOT GET UNFAIR HATE. THEY ASKED FOR IT. THEY BLOODY ASKED FOR IT. -rage-

Even Bleach deserves credit for their 'SUDDEN OVERPOWER MODE VICTORY' stuff compared to what Soul Eater did.

p.s. If it makes you feel any better, the Soul Eater manga is coming along quite nicely, if you're into it. (no, I don't think it ended yet, not that I'm 100% sure)

edit : I do not know how it went in the manga or if the ending was a setup for a 'hopeful' second season. I will judge it as I saw it. It was probably the most anticlimatic ending there was.

Well, more like twenty thousand paper cuts, and that wasn't even what was actually killing him, it was the evil spell on Zeniba's seal that was doing that. Anyway, tangent.

I also think Bleach gets a lot of hate... unfairly? That's debatable. It's certainly not as good as it once was, but it's still not horrible. What does get a lot of hate is the Mahou Sensei Negima anime. It's not as good as the manga, but very seldom is an anime better than it's manga.
