music Those Albums That Were A Let Down

What were those albums that you bought

And weren't as good as you hoped they would be

For me the biggest let downs are these 3 albums:

(WARNING) These albums are very big let downs to me, and if you like these albums and you get offended very easily then don't read these little mini opinions that I had wrote, I WARNED YOU!!

Deadmau5 - 4x4=12

TFm6bIU.jpg

THIS?!? THIS coming out of THE Deadmau5? THE Joel Zimmerman. Look alright let me just explain this for you guys. When Deamau5 released his first popular album "Random Album Title" it was so melodic and beautiful sounding that you could listen to it outside of the club, it was just such a peaceful experience to turn on this album while just laying around in your bed, and then he released "For Lack of a Better Name" the album where he took Dance music and put elements from AMBIENT music, he literally made Progressive House sound so atmospheric and melodic, he pushed boundaries that were never done within Modern EDM. And then he released this album....4x4=12. After hearing how much of an improvement For Lack of a Better Name was from Random Album Title, I expected something that was gonna be mind blowing, and just jaw dropping. Oh but no, that wasn't the case as instead this album is nothing but BASS, just bass thrown on top of BASS with even more BASS. Surely there are some nice and melodic parts in certain songs. But those parts last for only about 30 seconds while the other 10 minutes of the song is just god damn BASS. There was nothing memorable from this album, and nothing that was enjoyable neither. I might be over reacting, but honestly once you'd heard the 10 minute masterpiece he did named "Strobe" you'll figure out why I find this album to be nothing but a clusterfuck of bass and unlistenable material.

Daft Punk - Human After All

Jp86meD.jpg

This whole album, to me, is just the same thing over and over again, all of the songs sound exactly like each other, and don't even get me started on the songs by themselves. This feels almost like a joke to me, with songs like Technologic and Robot Rock, it's like as if Daft Punk don't want us to take them seriously, the whole album has nothing memorable, other than the occasional headbang at some of the guitar parts, but then the songs get way too boring. If the songs were more shorter then maybe I might have more respect for the album, but honestly I don't wanna hear the same sample over and over again in songs like Technologic, honestly I wanna rip my ears off during the middle of that song. The only two songs that sound different from the rest are The Brainwasher and Make Love. But even those two songs can get just as boring as the other ones.

Radiohead - The King of Limbs

gJkrz7h.jpg

Okay while The King of Limbs may not be a terrible album, I feel as if Radiohead could of pulled of something better than this album. I kind of have a similar feel with this album that I do with Human After All, the songs sound quite similar to each other, but unlike Human After All, The King of Limbs doesn't go to the extent that it makes the album too unenjoyable. Like I mean don't get me wrong, I like this album, but it doesn't sound nearly as good as some of their other stuff from albums like Kid A, Amnesiac and In Rainbows. So I guess I expected this album to be really amazing, when it turned out to be nothing more than okay or decent enough. It's good, but it's nothing compared to what Radiohead have done before

Scarecrow- John Melloncamp

Don't get me wrong I love John's music, I just dislike almost every song in this album with the only redeeming ones being Scarecrow, Small Town, and R.O.C.K in the usa.   That last one is pushing it though.  It seems that every song has the same sound.  Clean guitar riffs with a loud (like really loud) snare drum every two beats.

Best of Black Sabbath

I bought this album because it contained all of my favorite songs on one CD.  What I got was an album that cut out crucial parts of songs, and had an overall horrible sound quality.   The music on this is top notch.

I would post something like Metallica's "St. Anger" or Morbid Angel's "Illud Divinum Insanus," something really bad...but the truth is I never listened to those albums, being warned off well in advance.

But one that I did hear, and walked into pretty much blind, was Mercenary's "Metamorphosis." Mercenary was once a group of the best Danish deathrashers in the metal world, with their strongest albums in "11 Dreams" and "The Hours That Remain"...but a few years later, something went horribly wrong. All but one of the original members departed, leaving essentially a totally new band insulting my ears with "punk metal." There were two, maybe three decent cuts on the whole album. The rest made me mourn for the real Mercenary, alas, forever departed from this earth.

Green Day: Insomniac

I feel like it's just trying to mooch off Dookie's success. All the songs sound very similar to one another, and also sound as if they belong on Dookie. Honesty, I wasn't very impressed when I listened to the album. It does have a few good songs, but that's about it.

Go Radio's "Close The Distance." They are one of the most mature bands of their genre, and this album isn't nearly as mature as "Lucky Street." I don't hate this album, but the lyrics are much more generic than their previous work.

Do extended plays count? If so, The Antlers - Together

3008-together.jpg

The longest EP released by my favourite band with a full 9 songs in it. It's even longer than their second studio album, which I loved. What's not to like? Well basically, the EP was composed of one original song, one cover, and seven different renditions (2 were the same song) from their previous works. That last part would seem pants-shittingly amazing to me if they covered something from their first three albums, but all of the renditions are from their last album, Burst Apart.

I thought Burst Apart was pretty alright. It had six boring-ish songs (or in other words, the only songs by The Antlers I'd ever consider boring), and four pretty goddamn awesome. No Widows, Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out, Corsicana, and Putting the Dog to Sleep were easily the four best. What did Together pick for the renditions? All of Burst Apart except for the ones I listed. Ouch.

The original song was pretty good actually. I just didn't like it at first. The cover was pretty alright. Then again, I consider most of The Antlers to be above 'alright'.

Real disappointed. Then again, bands change. You can't please everyone. I preferred their slowcore/indie-rock stuff much to their newer stuff.

I never understood the ultrahate this album's received. "Punk metal?" If anything, it's much closer to having metalcore influences than punk influences.

Anyway, Mercenary aren't even that close to thrash-metal, especially in the two albums you listed. Those are MDM/Power metal. Their first two are thrash influenced, much more noticeable in their debut, First Breath. Never really considered The Hours That Remain to be their 'strongest' album. It was the first one with only Mikkel Sandager, with no-one to back him up on the lows. Even then, it's about their farthest album from thrash that they have, so I have no idea why you're bringing "death thrash" up.

Also, their lead guitarist still stayed, I'm pretty sure.

Yeah, I didn't really like it too much either. But you have to admit, Rene Pederson does some impressive shit on that album. He did the low cleans and growls on Architect of Lies, so I expected something kinda monotone. Instead, he puts out a modal D5 somewhere in that. Not impressed?

And of course I wish the Sandager brothers were still in the band. Just saying, their 2011 album's hate is blown out of proportion.

Well, Avenged Sevenfold's self-titled album was always a bit disappointing to me. I felt like the songs weren't nearly as good as on their previous albums, plus most of the songs just sounded mediocre and boring to me. Plus songs like Afterlife and Almost Easy are so overrated it's not even funny.
