My suggestion is, if possible, to devise a schedule in which at least one technical administrator, community administrator, or global moderator would be online at all times. Due to the fact that all nine of these individuals have full moderation powers throughout the website, there would be at least one person actively watching the site 24/7 who would be able deal with any serious situations that may arise, regardless of where they occurred on the site. Any spam raid, troll, etc could be stopped quickly at any moment.

The admins and global moderators would not be confined to only logging in at their specific time of day that was a constituent of the 24/7 schedule. If they had more time, they could also login at anytime they wished in addition to their allocated block of time. Section moderators would not be a part of the 24/7 schedule, due to the fact that their moderation powers are not site-wide. Therefore, they could login whenever they wanted to.

The problem with this suggestion is that both creating and maintaining a 24/7 hour schedule is difficult. All of the staff members have other duties to attend to that come first, whether it be college, or a job, etc. I assume that forming a 24/7 schedule without conflicting with the things that come first would be challenging. However, it may be more plausible to accomplish this once there are more global moderators in addition to the current nine individuals with site-wide moderation powers.

We've really got most of the day and night covered; we got a night crew now, and there may or may not be some further assistance coming our way in the very, very near future. *Cough*. Outside actively trying to cover the day in a general sense, I don't think it's worth our time to try and devise a concise schedule of moderation down to the hour and half-hour, daily.

I tried my hand at moderating on a friends website once, we had to devise a shedule for it and it seemed to work. You just need the people to be from different time zones, they need to be active, plus you actually need enough mods to do it.

Sooo.. being from Australia, I was the only aussie mod, which kinda sucked...but still, It was a good job to have.

This idea has probably already been thought up, and it isnt that simple to enforce...

Indeed. From what I have seen, there is almost always a staff member online. And, when there isn't, there could always be one or more that are hidden.

My concern is that as the site grows the risk for serious attacks against the site occurring increases. The more people there are coming and going from the site, the higher the chance of some of them wanting to cause trouble. However, since you say that you guys do actively cover the day in a general sense, I doubt someone could get too far before one of the staff members logged in.

I agree, a schedule like this would by no means be simple to create or maintain. However, it would be important, especially as this site continues to grow. However, as I said in response to Chaotic Discord's post, since they do actively cover the day in a general sense, a potential attacker could not get very far.

Usually, when I don't see an Admin online, but I see someone logged in Anonymously, I'll just assume it's a staff member. So I assume that almost all the day, at least when the site's most active, there's always Mods/Admins online.

Even if a mod is AFK when this stuff happens most members on here can get hold of them be it by phone call, text or a quick skype message, but the mods are basically always online, there are almost always staff members online, you may not see that they are online but they usually are there, and yes also there is a night team as well which helps a lot around here.

For Tech admins this is less of an issue. If a tech problem arises it will be dealt with as soon as it can be. But it requires technical expertise not many command. However it has never been so urgent that tech support was needed instantly I feel.

Moderators tend to be picked so that their regular online times will complete a 24 hour online presence. As well as having a means outside of the forums for instant communication helps. So when needed several online moderators can flow in. As well as generally having an abundance to start with.

Community Admins have somewhat have good American coverage. But I hardly see this as a major debilitating issue. Community admins are needed for the more personal touch. If it does ever happen, Community admins from other regions beside North America can be appointed.

So far the system works just fine. Use the report feature and contact staff features wisely.

It feels like they already are online all the time :o

Well at least not at around 9:00-13:00 (9 am - 1 pm) Swedish time (GMT+1). At those times there's usually one sectional mod online :P

Another thing is that there are alot of mods in general, There will always be one on each hour generally.

And right at this moment, there aren't many bad trolls from what I've seen...

So the mods are doing their jobs extremely effectively...

I tend to see at least one moderator or admin on most of the time, I have seen a troll here and there but have reported them as I have seen them and they have been dealt with very quickly. I do understand the concerns by the OP though as you never really know when a troll or a hacker will try to start trouble and that risk does go up as the site grows larger but the staff seems to have things under control.
