    • It's pretty okay, I guess. I mean, they have a lot of agriculture, which supplies food to us, so that is good.

    • Iowa is evil.

I was wondering, since I am Iowan, what you all think of my okay but sometimes crappy weathered state.

From my point of view, it has it's drawbacks and awesomeness. Winter is sometimes fun, but it often lasts too long. Yet Spring and Summer are just as good anywhere else, if not with more nature involved. Although the roads pretty much commit suicide in Springe, as either all of the dirt roads either melt away, or the paved highways and town roads become pothole hell.

Politically, Iowa always has around an even number of Democrats and Republicans in office. Our Senators include one friggin old Democrat who has been serving for years, and one friggin old republican that has been serving for years.

Oh, I almost forgot, we have corn, a lot of it. We are pretty much known for corn, and some soybeans.

But in recent years farmers in the area have been trying to farm every inch of land they own, tearing up wooded areas in placed that make little sense to farm. This is mostly due to Insurance they get, that assures they will make money off of it, but what some of them are doing around streams will likely mean increased land erosion.

Our government actually has a suplus right now, and the Dumbocrats and Redumbicans are fighting over how to spend it, while I think we should just lower the bally taxes.

Oh, and we have Legal Gay marriage, and corn.

So, What do you think?

I'm not really sure I have an opinion of Iowa.  My grandfather grew up there, so my view isn't negative of it.  I always thought it was a lot like Missouri (where I grew up <3).  But the farming practices you're describing seem almost ancient.  Hopefully we won't end up like the Mayans. D:>

I don't really have any strong feelings toward Iowa one way or the other, there seems to be a lot more corn out there than people but having a surplus is a good thing which I can't say for my state California which is the state budget equivalent of the town drunk who got caught hiding under a bar stool so he can keep getting hammered even after "last call".

Being someone that lives here down in the town known as the "Video Game Capital of the World", I really have problems with it, I rather live here then, say, New York or one of the other "Big City" states.

My ideal place would still be somewhere down south though, in one of the Cajin states.

it looks like Iowa is kinda like what my Provence used to be like, lots of agriculture, and politically there is (was) allot of right and left wing idealists, unfortunately in northern Alberta the seasons go Slush Month, Almost Winter, Winter (i wish i could use that word lightly :P ) and After Winter but not quite done...

I never hear anything about Iowa.

But its probably better than California.

Its hot here, and boring. Well, probably because i don't really get outta' the house.

But still. The only thing good about California is that its probably easier to find a brony friend.

My dad was born in Des Moines, but I've never been there. On a family trip, I think we drove through Iowa, but I don't remember anything besides it being really flat and smelling weird.

Last time I went to Iowa I almost died.  Therefore Iowa is evil and is clearly out to get me.  It wants my life force to feed it's corn monsters that are plotting to take over the earth when the nine planets all align.  You won't get my life force Iowa!  I will survive!

I used to live in South Dakota, very windy during night and stuff... fun place to live since there's nothing else to do but watch deers strolling about and getting into bunch of fermented fruits to knock themselves out.

There are only two significant things that I knew about Iowa before this thread was made: James Tiberius Kirk was born there and it's where most of Field of Dreams was filmed. Based on what I just read about it, there are worse states to live in, and definitely better ones. Honestly, I think corn will always be the first (and probably only) thing that comes to my mind when someone mentions Iowa.

No strong feelings about it.

Iowa is ok, I guess.  I've never lived there, but I lived in the Midwest for a few years, and Iowa is pretty similar to all the other states out there.

Also, Slipknot came from there, for whatever that's worth.

It's okay. There are worse states and there are better states.

Such as Washington. It's like Oregon with a less intrusive government. And we can smoke weed as long as there are no Feds around.

Every state has advantages and drawbacks. For example, Florida usually has amazing weather, but we also have to deal with tourists, New Yorkers/ New Englanders, and the seemingly endless supply of crazy people. Still, your hometown is what you help make of it.

Must thank them for the Agriculture, but Alabama will always be on top. BEST. STATE. EVAH.

(You know, the redneck population of America has been in decline for a while now... I'm seeing alot less bigoted comments around the internet...)

Indeed the field of Dreams is actually still here. Although, they recently sold it, and in recent local news the new owners are planning on changing it all up...

Kind of sad really, apparently, the first owners weren't able to make enough tourist money off of it. Too bad I never got too see it, considering it is so close by.

I moved from Arizona to Iowa 5 years ago. The state is one large, freakin, farm. During major sports events there will be commercials for seed and feed.

that said the people are wonderful. i live in Des Moines, and the people are the friendliest people in the nation. Real salt of the earth types with strong families, and parents who watch their kids play sports 5 nights a week. Iowans like all Mid Westerners have a reputation for working hard.  The girls are pretty and love watching sports as much as the guys. You will walk into a group of ladies at work discussing last night's game. AND the gals know how to cook from scratch!

---seriously you guys need to date a Midwestern gal-you will fall over dead with shock. these gals are great!

Snow is something new to me. It's pretty at first, but the novelty wears off real fast! Summers are HUMID. This place is great for plants, but no so hot for people.

I don't know everything about Iowa, but I like what I've seen so far.
