Sir.Flutter Hooves 2,953 March 28, 2013 Share March 28, 2013 Hello fellow bronies! I have one question about the season finale Magical Mystery Cure. Applejack got Rarity's cutie mark, and she made dresses. But isn't Rarity's cutie mark gems, and is her true destiny to find gems, and not to make dresses? Isn't making dresses sorta of a hobby for her, but not her true destiny? Remember when she used her horn to find gems? Thanks and bro hoof /) 1 This fantastic signature is made my by awesome friend Rainbow Skywalker!
Inactive01 5,299 March 28, 2013 Share March 28, 2013 This is a common issue found within that episode. The way I see it is that it can also mean that Rarity used gems to creatively make colourful dresses. It shows that she has a much clearer understanding of beauty, especially in clothing. And it wasn't like Rarity found the gem on her own. She was led to a whole series of them because of the Rainboom. Furthermore, her main career is working and maintaining a dress shop, not to find jewels.
Starstream 182 March 28, 2013 Share March 28, 2013 There's a similar issue with Dashie's talent, which isn't weather management... but at this point I've spent so much energy harping and nitpicking on that episode's inconsistencies that I just don't care anymore. I'd say "just bring on the next season and let me see where the series goes at this point".
Dr. Eggnog 203 March 28, 2013 Share March 28, 2013 (edited) The reason Applejack made dresses was that the show has shown a lot more of Rarity making dresses than finding gems, plus the creators probably thought Applejack messing up with making dresses would be more fun to watch than with finding gems. I'm fine with it. Edit: To quote A Bugs Life, "Finally, I'm a beautiful butterfly!" Edited March 28, 2013 by Dr. Eggnog I love you.
PonyEcho 1,610 March 28, 2013 Share March 28, 2013 Rarity's cutie mark is more about beauty and making things dazzle, which finding gems helped her discover. Hence why her cutie mark has 3 gems. a bigger question would be Rarity with RD's cutie mark, because Rainbow dash's cutiemark represents her desire for speed and not her desire to control the weather. So why was Rarity doing the weather and not racing or trying to be fast. cutie mark are suppose resemble ones passion and what they want there future to be. Not what job each pony is going to be stuck with. 1 my DA http://heavyecho.deviantart.com/ check my stuff out the Anime Club http://mlpforums.com/topic/48196-the-anime-club/ plz join us
Zygen 6,066 March 28, 2013 Share March 28, 2013 I kinda think of it as that making dresses was part of her destiny. However she had a talent for finding gems. Thats how I rationalize that. Same sorta thing in a way with Rainbow. just his is more of a job I guess, not a destiny. It still kinda works. Plus Rarity doesn't have wings so yeah . Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Starstream 182 March 28, 2013 Share March 28, 2013 (edited) @@Zygen (Oh, here I go anyway... . Celestia help me.) It would have made much more sense for Rarity's interest to change into a need for speed as opposed to the whole weather thing because in universe it was established that pegasi handle the weather. Anyone who would've watched Rarity trying to maneuver clouds (including Rarity herself) should have been tipped off that something here was not right here. Now, athletic abilities on the other hand is something that could conceivably apply to any type of pony, so that would be a much more desirable trait of Dash to channel into another pony. (There, out of my system, now I'm going to waterboard myself so I won't do that again.) Edited March 28, 2013 by Rockmare
pinkiefan1287 610 March 28, 2013 Share March 28, 2013 Well to me it seems that finding gems and making dresses with them are both one in the same. Remember, her cutie mark did not appear until the gems were placed on to the costumes for the show that night. Made by Gone ϟ Airbourne
Sugar Cube 4,843 March 28, 2013 Share March 28, 2013 (edited) I just go with the idea that when Twilight switched up their marks, their jobs got switched with them, but not necessarily their special talents. That would explain why Rarity took Dash's job, but not her ability to fly insanely fast and do daredevil maneuvers. Rarity's special talent is finding gems and incorporating them into her fashion designing, and said fashion designing is her job. Rarity's job and her special talent are connected, so they are really one and the same. Rainbow Dash is a similar case. Her special talent is her insane flying ability, and her job is to control the weather. She uses her flying talents to clear skies in ten seconds flat, thus finishing up her job. With most characters, like Applejack and Fluttershy, the job and special talent of the pony are one and the same. AJ runs the apple farm, and is darn good at her job. Her three apples represent this well. Fluttershy's ability is taking care of animals, and that's her job. Her three butterflies represent this well. Pinkie Pie is a baker, but she's also got the job and talent of throwing parties and making others happy. Her three balloons represent the latter very well. Dash and Rarity have cutie marks that simply aren't as obvious, because they reflect the pony's talent more than they represent their job. That's the only problem I see. Scythe 39 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 There's a similar issue with Dashie's talent, which isn't weather management... but at this point I've spent so much energy harping and nitpicking on that episode's inconsistencies that I just don't care anymore. I'd say "just bring on the next season and let me see where the series goes at this point". I'm still bothered by the inconsistencies. I'm not entirely convinced on how a cutie mark is paired with destiny (support free will today!). Just because Rarity has a talent for gem finding and artistry does not mean that she was destined to be a dressmaker. She might have been a sculptor. Rainbow Dash's speed doesn't mean she was destined to be a weather pony. She could have been the fastest thief alive, or a vigilante. Applejack's love of family is not necessarily related to the farm, but to her family. Home is where your heart is, after all. Fluttershy's talent with animals could have her travel far and wide to discover and protect animals akin to the Crocodile Hunter, RIP. Pinkie Pie's ability to entertain could lead anywhere other than Ponyville and have nothing to do with being a baker. I suspect and hope cutie marks just represent talents discovered at a young age. Scootalove 10,689 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 I guess the writers thought it would be funny if Applejack makes the dresses instead of finding gems. She uses her horn to find gems to put on the dresses when she first found out her destiny with her cutie mark showing 3 diamonds. I guess, Rarity likes to make dresses. Idk I'm just trying to rationalize that part of the "Destiny swap thing" Maybe because it was a part of dash's destiny. Thats what would make the most sense, but it doesn't feel like controlling weather is the destiny of Rainbow Dash necessarily as much as basically all Pegasi. Thats the main one that stumps me really. Didn't mean to annoy you . Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Fhaolan 4,483 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 There's also the idea that when the 'destiny' swapped, what actually happened is that each pony acted out what they *thought* the other's destiny was rather than their actual destiny. So Rarity is acting out what she honestly thinks Rainbow's destiny is, and so on. In other words, their destinies *weren't* swapped, they were just under the equivalent of a very strong Confusion spell.
zeptabrony 6 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 i guess, now that twilight has been asigned a big role as a princess, how will the writers even it out for the other mane 6? it seems like twilight is now overpowered in comparison r a i n b o w

Nature's Spell 526 March 29, 2013 Share March 29, 2013 (edited) Fhaolan made a great point about what the other ponies thought their friends destiny was. We got to see how the other ponies perceive each other and their roles in the community. For the episode I think their "loss" was compressed and made much more severe. Perhaps the spell had an effect on the town's ponies and made them react to the switch, and the negative effects, much more intensely. We, and those around us, often don't know how important we are until we're gone. Think It's a Wonderful Life. He wishes he was never born and the results are chaos and misery.
