I think that there was some foreshadowing in S2E1

    Hey guys! Rainbow Dash the Fourth here and I was just on YouTube watching the Want you Gone PMV based mainly around Discord by @@Stellafera (Very well done video by the way! You guys should check it out!) when I noticed Discord tapping on the painted window and when I looked closer I noticed that he was tapping on the circle that contains Fluttershy in it. I believe that that was foreshadowing to the "Keep Calm and Flutter On" episode and he knew that she could do something like changing his personality. Do you think that it was foreshadowing towards the episode or do you think that they are completely unrelated and just happened for the sake of a random choice. Let me know what you think below.....

It is possible that it was foreshadowing, but I doubt at that time they were intending to turn him "good".  So I doubt it was intentional.  It is also important to realize that Return of Harmony was written by M.A. Larson and Keep Calm and Flutter On was Dave Polsky.

An interesting observation. I imagine that the crew knew that Discord was going to be popular and had hopes that he would appear in later episodes. Not sure if by that point they had already started thinking about having Fluttershy be the one to help reform him, though.

 

It might have actually been forshadowing Discord's forced brainwashing of Fluttershy later in the episode.

It could've been foreshadowing, but idk its very very subtle of a thing to be honest. Plus the episodes are written by different writers aren't they? I'm not so sure here. Regardless I'm not totally sure if the idea for Discord to be reformed by Fluttershy had come up yet. I'd be more inclined to think of it as a foreshadow to him forcing Fluttershy into being Discorded.

 

Anythings possibly I guess though, an interesting and good catch for a possible foreshadow regardless.

I think the writers just saw the two characters had great potential together, they're basically complete opposites, Discord's mean purely for the sake of being mean, and Fluttershy is literally the paragon of kindness.

I think the more interesting possible foreshadowing is that Fluttershy was unable to be corrupted by Discord's words alone. She and she alone of the mane six was able to resist his temptations and remain calm and adorable. In this respect I like that it was Fluttershy that reformed him, and I don't entirely mind that he was reformed at all. It makes sense that Celestia wanted him reformed. He's broken out of stone before, he'll do it again. And his magic is pretty much able to distort all of reality as we know it. With Discord on team good they could probably pull of some amazing feats, like explode villains, or swap cutie mar-

It's an interesting theory but as some said I'm not sure how far into the future the writers plan. I'd like to think they do, but we have no insight into exactly how they plan long term.
