How is it that pounds is weight and not mass and kilograms is mass and not weight? How can we metric if we can't even untangle weight and mass?

 

(I know there's pound-mass and pound-force, or something like that, and there's also slugs for mass, but when I think pounds, I think weight, but when I think weight, I also think newtons.)
