I went with the proactive approach of putting it on my flash drive. I didn't expect it to wipe it first. BUT... I already moved many of the major installers out, I put the important Inkscape pictures onto a cloud, half of the other installers are redownloadable, and all of the others I'm fishing out with a data recovery tool.

 

Some files didn't fare so well, mainly past programming assignments, but I have the big ones on my phone already.

What in the world did I lose and then un-lose?!!

Cinny, hold me. I just had a major scare from my computer saying that Windows 10 couldn't install. Turns out I was booting from the wrong device. Did you have this kind of issue?

I'm gonna quote my thought I have from a private discussion.

 

 

 

So after a long chain of loosely interconnected events, I became the Windows 10 guinea pig for my family and installed Windows 10 onto my main computer. I'll say this: it's the same and different from Windows 7 in a lot of ways, meaning that a lot of the stuff I'm used to on Windows 7 is stuff I don't have to re-learn. And the graphics are stunning (except for Chrome, which insists on doing its own thing): it's like Microsoft and Kurzgesagt came together and had a baby and expressed a recessive right angles gene. I'm a sucker for minimal aesthetics, admittedly.
