I just got back home from my trip. I am beat, I have been on the road all day and I am glad to be home. Though I am gonna miss the friend I visited. I hope that I will get to visit him again soon! And have more time than just a day... But yeah. I gotta get up early for work tomorrow. I am still stressed but I am okay. I am happy my meeting with him went well.

 

So who is here right now? How is everyone doing? I'm very tired now. I got two days of work then another day off.

I got my computer back yesterday. I threw in a ~$60-ish 1TB hard drive in there to replace the whatever-it-is-I-have Toshiba hard drive I used before. (It was 160GB and I don't know what SATA generation it was.)

 

I would have to reinstall a few programs because that old Toshiba drive was where I had installed some of my programs.

Did you get a new solid state drive for your computer or are you deciding to use the regular HDD instead of the SSD? If I built my own computer I would have an SSD on the main operating system and then regular HDD's for storing things. And have back up OS's on the HDD in case the Solid State drive fails or the OS corrupts and I could get back in.

 

I need to build my own computer I am getting tired of using laptops. xD

I never properly untangled all of the Intel mumbo-jumbo to fully understand what I was looking at, but I got an AMD processor instead due to cost. All the other processors I had were almost always Intel (heck, there's an i3 in my laptop).

The rest of my computer looks like this:

• AMD FX4170 4-core processor with a base clock speed of 4200MHz
• Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 motherboard
• 8GB DDR3 RAM (dual channel kit of 2 4GB sticks with a speed of I believe 1300-ish MHz)
• GTX 560ti vidio card, later replaced to an R9 390 video card
• 120GB SSD, replaced with a 240GB SSD recently
• 160GB HDD, replaced with a 1TB HDD
• 750W PSU (was actually underutilised until now)

And the periphery looks like this:

• Logitech M100 mouse (switched with several different mice for a long time)
• Logitech K120 keyboard (actually the best membrane keyboard that I've been able to find)
• Logitech S120 speakers
• JVC 5.1 surround sound system as my second set of speakers
• Viewsonic 1680×1050 monitor
• Two of the same Dell 1366×768 monitor; both currently unconnected since my video card doesn't have DVI-I connections, only DVI-D (they connect with VGA, but I had VGA-DVI adapters, but now I need a more specific adapter to reconnect my other two monitors)

And how is AMD anyway? I am used to the intel, I mean AMD is good for emulators I guess cause the consoles tend to use AMD processing. I wanted to to emulations and regular gaming too. I wouldn't mind a gaming laptop though so I could game on the go, though those aren't THAT portable but they definitely are more portable than desktops, especially big ones.

AMD's pretty good in terms of budget, but it works rather well for all other processes; heck, I think it was them who created the first 64-bit CPU (I'm not so good on CPU history, but that's what I heard).

 

Strangely enough, by CPU naming, I'm more familiar with AMD, but by GPU naming, I'm more familiar with NVidia.

There used to be room on the side for an extra fan, but when I added an aftermarket cooler, there was no room for it, so I took it out. I since relocated it to the bottom when I made room for it.

I built the whole thing together. It's got an MSI R9 390; it's an AMD card. It's a million times bigger than the 560ti I used to run.

 

I'm actually back to using a single monitor (the R9 390 card I got doesn't support analog outputs so I can't use my DVI-I to VGA adapters), but since its resolution is, at the least, higher than one megapixel, it's not too big an inconvenience.

I wanna make computers my job, so computers are inherently really important to me. I think it cost me about ~$1000 to put together, plus about another hundred dollars in incremental upgrades, not including the periphery. Except that this month, about $400 in new equipment was added inside.
