I can assure you that rarity is one of the moms :x

My own thoughts on how genetics would work was that certain pairings of pegasus and unicorn genes would yield an earth pony. For example, dominant genes are P, E, and U, recessive genes are p, e, and u.

 

Pegasus = PP, Pp, Pe, Pu, pp, EU, and eu.

 

Earth pony = EE, Eu, Ep, ee, UP, and up.

 

Unicorn = UU, Uu, Up, Ue, uu, PE, and pe.

 

For the longest time, I imagined Ganaram's mom and dad being a unicorn and earth pony, with Ganaram being the only pegasus being ever born into the family, and if this is to be true, or at least a viable "theory", this may explain the genetics behind the cake twins.

Over analysis is one of those things I love doing.

It kinda makes sense though. We haven't seen that many males in the show, and only one marriage.

Much like how I said 'being born male could be considered a genetic defect', marrying could be one of those things anyone could do regardless of gender.

Males are freaks, anyway; We have a Y-chromosome that, at the point of conception, is really really fragile. If that breaks, you're doomed.

 

Females have chromosomal insurance: Two X-chromosomes. If one X breaks, the other X covers it. Sadly to say, my fellow males, we'd be screwed if my zero-Y-chromosome society were a reality...

I think there are more males than you think but they don't have any kind of screen time.

I'd personally imagine that the males would be more congregated in Canterlot; You know, the Royal Guard and all...

 

But then what's the population ratio of other settlements in Equestria?

 

Genetics would predict a 50-50 distribution of males and females everywhere, but Ponyville must be f!cked up... Either that or Ponyville and Canterlot's collective population would somehow even things out.
