Wanna know where all this came from? Because I wanted to type in a much more efficient manner, and Qwerty keyboards are not the kind of keyboard you'd want for efficiency.

 

I remember reading your blog about you changing to a Dovorak keyboard.

I still wouldn't do it. I type efficiently enough.

I ask because I saw a Dvorak general thread and a picture had those same keys in a row.

The Colemak is the best crossbreed between Dvorak and Qwerty that I have seen thus far, in that it has roughly the same efficiency as a Dvorak, but leaves the keys in the same hands as that of a Qwerty.

 

For example, the letters "QWFGARSTDZXCVB" are the same letters on the left hand of a Colemak as that of a Qwerty, whose letters are "QWRTASDFGZXCVB". Similar with the right hand: "YUIOHJKLNM" for Qwerty, and "JLUYHNIOKM" for Colemak. The only letters that do switch hands are P and E, so you're gonna need to relearn how to write the word "Pee" if you were to make such a switch.

 

Dvorak? Every single freakin' key changes position, except for A and M. You'd have to relearn the position of 24 letters, whereas with Colemak, you'd need to relearn a little over half of that, but since they don't move that far relative to a Qwerty, you don't need to relearn all that much.
