Like Star said, the anonymity offered puts a new level of freedom over how you can post. The reason it may seem hostile to some is that people there are more willing to insult each other, because of that anonymous concept. 

 

I personally find it hilarious, and while I kinda stopped after awhile, I used to post/lurk around there a lot. And I mean it's not all insults and porn, you can have pretty nice conversations there if you run across the right people.

 

To them, "faggot" isn't very derogatory. It's come to mean something more along the lines of "idiot" or "generally annoying person."

It's partially thanks to a certain mainstream media outlet that blames pedophilia on the site, and some anons that can actually wreak havoc on the internet, but most of the time the site is quite harmless (as long as you never click any suspicious images or links)

Let's just say you can post pretty much everything in that place. While there are some unwritten rules on what not to post, expect to find some of the most soul-scaring stuffs in that place. But if you're immune to human bastardly acts and unmitigated terror that lurks in there, that place can be pretty fun :3

Im sure I said generally bad.

Meaning not all of it.

I may have said /mlp/, thats a possibility, but as I don't remember at all, i can't say for sure.

 

I don't tell people to go there cause i know how crude it is at times and not every likes that kind of humour or atmosphere.

As for dangerous, I'm pretty sure I never went into that part. I don't recall myself doing so at least. Just dont piss anyone off. Not saying any anon could actually do something, but just being safe.

 

And yes, as you've found out, /mlp/ is chock full of porn. Especially at night it seems.

/b/ is generally the same, but covers a lot of other areas. It's not all porn though. It's the random board, so anything goes.
