Hello,

I just saw one of the most amazing films in my life called Watership Down. In case anyone has not seen it, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFO8dm5QeDk

Has anybody seen this movie? If so, what do you think about it? The ending was great, and the art work was phenomenal!

Tell me in the comments below!

My uncle showed me this movie when I was about seven... all I remember are rabbits tearing each others throats out.... It is a good film, if I remember correctly, but it is not something you show a child >: (

I agree. But this show has a lot of symbolism in it, which I fins amazing in a film about rabbits. Sometime, the artwork was so intense, I thought I was watching a nature documentary. But it was such a good movie!

Is this the movie that has the famous swing scene in it? I'm pretty sure it's this one, can anpony verify this for me?

I don't feel like watching this whole movie to find out.

Well, I don't believe this is the movie. Do you mind explaining the scene, and maybe I'll remember it? It was just a heart wrenching film, you should really watch it again.

The movie was actually based of a really great book, also going by the name Watership Down. It's a wonderful read and I highly recommend it. I actually didn't know that there was a film adaptation of the book though! I'll have to watch it when I get the chance.

Richard Adams, author of Watership Down is still kicking around at age 92. And I believe I read someplace that Martin Rosen, director of the animated film, holds the rights to and might attempt a re-make someday. It's actually something I could see working fairly well with CGI.

As to this film: it's the first movie I saw as a child that I remember watching repeatedly, because there was a period when they showed it once a year on ABC (I believe). The animated sequence at the beginning of the film was directed by John Hubley, creator of Mr. Magoo. He died and couldn't direct the rest of the film. But that sequence alone influenced a lot of future animators...and Watership Down, in my humble opinion, is one of the most important animated features ever.

I heard that to. I just hope they don't sell the rights to Disney and make another Fox and the Hound. Many people don't know the Fox and the Hound was a book, and failed because of the disney movie. In the book, the fox got rabies and killed a kid and got shot. Many people thought the book was going to be childish, and that's why it failed.

I can just see the disney version. Happy little Thumper clones prancing in the valley, with Mr.Squirrel and such. I hope they make a good remake.

Another amazing book. Though I still need to watch the movie. Why is it always that stories about small animals are the best?

I believe why the best stories with small animals is the best, because of our imaginations. We as humans have no idea what small animals, or any animals for that matter think or act about. So, some animators (the good ones), make up human personalities like the did in Watership Down and made it a great movie.

I heard the book was good. I can't wait to read it!

Oh, God... I wouldn't want it Disneyfied. I can't see Disney making a violent and scary children's movie.

Reminds me of how North American studios usually like happy endings in their movies... they even gave Steven King's "Cujo" a happy ending. In the original, the boy Tad died from dehydration in the car...

I know, if they want a good movie make the right ending! Kids can take it, maybe not little kids but maybe 10-11 year olds.

Cujo, another one of my favorites did feel like it had to much of a happy ending. She walked away like nothing happened after she got mauled by a 300+ rabid Saint Bernard. No body is living through that!

Watership Down is simply awesome.  Adams created the most realistic made-from-scratch world I have ever read.  The book makes just too much sense.  Plus it could be argued that the whole thing is an allegory for the Aeneid.

The movie is ok.  Apart from their weird weighting of certain scenes (they give at least 5-10 minutes to Hazel getting shot at Nuthanger), my only complaint is the ending.

The ending clearly shows Hazel being led off into the afterlife by the Black Rabbit of Inle.  The book, on the other hand, makes the identity less clear; in the book, the only clues are that said rabbit has silver-y fur (though this could just be a glimmer of light) and that Hazel feels inclined to address him as "my lord".  It easily could be Elahrairah.

Not to mention the fact that it ruins the fun speculation that Elahrairah is the Black Rabbit...

Oh hey, I was thinking of making this topic the other day. I saw the movie when I was younger... I didn't know what it was about, just saw the description and thought, 'hey, cartoon about rabbits, I'll check it out'. ALL CARTOONS ARE NOT FOR KIDS. However, the animated series is considerably less dark, has anyone else seen it? I watched it all the way through.

Loved the book, you all should read it if you get the chance. The amount of detail Adams put into this world rivals LotR. I should watch the movie someday I guess, but I hate when it conflicts with the images I have from the book. Maybe I'll just read the book again...
