Is it weird to like something when you're outside of the target audience?

Hey everyone, as a pegasister I love My Little Pony: FIM but I also love another show, which was made for BOYS in the 1980s. Laugh if u want but I'm a fan of Transformers: G1. I know I've mentioned this a few times, but when I was on YouTube and I posted about me as a girl liking a boys show, everyone called me a faggot. Do u think its weird for a teen girl to watch a boys show made 30 years ago?

Don't feel bad. I liked G1 ponies long ago and paid hell for it long before YouTube. But it all worked out.

We like what we like and its okay

Nah, of course not. I think most people in today's world would view it as being more acceptable than what we all watch now. But who even cares about being accepted by the world? It isn't a great honor, in fact if I was accepted by the world I feel like I'd be doing something wrong. I'm me, and you're you. As long as people can accept themselves, that's all that matters anymore.

So what! I like G1 of pokemon! It shouldn't matter to you what others think. YOU like it and no one else has to! Besides no one says its made for 'boys', thats just your opinion!

I don't understand, I mean.. You're on a forum for bronies and pegasister, we watch a show made for little girls, why would we consider you to be weird?

If those people insult you, they're obviously not worth your time.

Fun fact. most Transformers fans of the 80's cartoon are actually girls (same thing for the original star trek). Also don't worry about it, you are among bronies, the most tolerant people in the world

OMG I didn't know that! Gosh I feel so much better now, thanks u guys (and girls ;) ) bro hoofs for all!! :D I won't let people get me down now!

I've never really watched the 80s Transformers cartoon. Back in the 90s though I watched Beast Wars all the time. In case you don't know, Beast Wars is supposed to be the sequel to Transformers. Some of the BW characters are actually descendants of the original Transformers characters.

Fun Fact: Ian Corlett who voiced Cheetor in Beast Wars is the father of Claire Corlett who voices Sweetie Belle. They're a very talented family of voice actors and it's so awesome how Ian helped his kids get into acting. happy.png

Who cares what other people think? If you like a show than just enjoy watching it and don't listen to the trolls who are trying to bait you into responding to them. I am not into Transformers myself but I hardly see the point in judging you or anyone for liking it, one interesting trend I have noticed though is that the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot which is yet another franchise that is aimed mostly at boys is turning a lot of young girls into turtles fans. As a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan for over 20 years I welcome this because new fans are new fans regardless of age or gender.

TMNT fan, myself. Really, it shouldn't matter what gender or age you are. If something is good, something is good, and to be excluded from liking it because of "it's 4 GRRRLLLLZZZ" or "MANLY MEN MEN" is stupid.

For instance, I got my little sister into Batman: The Animated Series (she's a Harley Quinn fan) and Left 4 Dead, and I think Little Mermaid is the shit.

'Good' has no target audience. To fill in character space I will expand upon good as meaning 'well crafted'. The writers and the artists know what they're doing, so of course people of ages, genders, what have you, will appreciate the work.

Dude, your a freak. You might need to go see a therapist because liking something for the opposite gender obviously means you're weird. Ever hear of these freaks called bronies? Liking a show for little girls, they must all be gay or pedophiles.

EDIT:I WAS JOKING! OF COURSE IT'S NOT WEIRD! I LOVE TRANSFORMERS!

Of course not lol I all I see when people make fun of the MLP fandom is "But its for kids.." or "But that show is for girls.."
Most things people like were targeted for someone else lol and in the end who really cares?

Umm...weird? No. In fact, quite the opposite. You're freakin' AMAZING for watching "boy's" shows.

I still can't quite wrap my head around the way society still expects people to color inside the lines, even for things like T.V. shows. Watch something not intended for you? BAD! That's a BAD freak! Go sit in the corner while the rest of us NORMAL folk proceed to ridicule you! You queer!

ABSATUTELY NOT! :D It's awesome! There are a lot of things that are considered for a different audience that I just LOVE to watch or do. You deserve a ginormous star for it :P

That's a pretty silly question to ask at a forum populated by a bunch of grown men who enjoy watching My Little Pony. :P

You know, some people said it was weird for me to love Pokemon (I'm a girl) but I ignore them. I suggest you do the same. I mean, they can call you a faggot all they like, but you're still having more fun than they are. :)

Uh, HECK-TO-THE-NO it ain't weird for a girl to watch G1 Transformers!!!  Heck, it ain't weird for anyone to watch G1 Transformers!  That's one of the best and most nostalgic shows to come out of the 80s!  Shame on anyone who'd make fun of anyone else at all for liking that show!!! angry.png

Yes, it's weird.  Very weird, and wrong.  However, it's not as weird as those teenage and adult fans of My Little Pony.  What are they called, "Bronies" or something?  Man, that's one strange group of folks...

You're asking this question on a Brony forum.

Seriously, you're asking this question on.  A.  Brony.  Forum.  What do you think we're going to say?

It's weird.

I know we're doing it right now, but that doesn't stop it from being weird.

Not a bad kind of weird.

Just the kind of weird you say, "Woah, didn't see that coming."

A "target audience" is basically just a stereotype.  It gives the companies involved a general idea of what products should be advertised.  Stereotypes can be useful in trying to determine how a percentage of a large group will respond to stimuli.  But stereotypes do not apply to individuals.  I personally do not consider "uncommon" and "weird" to be synonymous.  I think that a lot of common human behavior is incredibly bizarre, and find much uncommon behavior to be more logical.
