Sort of. I wake up with my alarm, take a shower, and then lie in bed doing nothing for about an hour.I don't know why I actually responded to that. Anyway, can't wait for the RP to start.

Yeah that was me, sorry. We really only needed to list our reasons for going to Raputre (still think it should have been renamed to something like "Elysium.") nothing else was required.

 

It was one of those moments where I thought, "there's gonna be those that go crazy with POX and become Jacks, but we also have those that become a bit more . . . grandiose in their madness." I thought it was a good opportunity to look myself in the mirror and ask myself, "what WOULD I do?"

The actual reasoning for the name is never explained. Here's my theory:

 

Objectivism holds that happiness is the individual's natural state, that we should seek to be happy, and not be burdened by the misery and guilt of others. "Rapture" means a state of near euphoric bliss. So Ryan presumably took that literally and tried to create a "State of euphoric bliss."

 

 

I never get tired of that, anyway!

 

The other significant meaning behind that word is from the Book of Revelations in the Bible, when all the people of the Earth are taken to Heaven so they don't endure the pain of the Apocalypse. You could stretch it, but since Objectivism (or at least Ayn Rand herself) was against religion and Andrew Ryan actually had the importation of Bibles made illegal (again, hypocritically) I personally think the former is much sounder than the ladder.

 

I thought it a rather good idea; it makes each character that much more relatable and deep. Helps us know each other a little bit better.

I want to call it Euphoria now, but I'll constantly be snickering at that one quote on /r/atheism that Reddit won't shut up about.

Euphoria . . . I REALLY like that one! Fits well enough. Wouldn't do to make the city a pun name like Hippocamopolis because, while it would fit the setting's usual naming scheme, "Rapture" isn't exactly traditional by Earth standards either.

Fine, the chef! I think he's a better character. I can totally see terrified ponies strapped to their seats as Gustave's machines force feed them. Even to the point that some pass out . . .  I didn't say I totally WANTED to see that, just that I could picture the scenario easily.

I'm still not sure if Teneighbaum should be a pony or a zebra. Zebra seems nice, but I'm not sure I want her to be so monochrome. It's purely an aesthetic choice at this point (which isn't that important in a text medium).

 

As for the city's name, if we're changing it we should pick something more pony-related than "Euphoria".

I agree. Besides, 'Euphoria' sounds like an awesome name for the city, and could be used in the roleplay as part of attracting ponies there.

No, goodness no, I wasn't talking about a pun. What I meant is that the name "Rapture" is symbolic of real world mythology, so the ponified name should be symbolic of Equestria's mythology. "Euphoria" doesn't refer to anything in Equestria's history and mythos.

Since the alicorn sisters rule equestria, the name could be something that represents Ryan's desire to be free of them and obtain the power to rival the alicorns themselves.

Just a tip for the Little Fillies dialogue. The Little Sisters search for Adam and call it "angels." Since we are kind of taking our cue from the Cutie-Mark Crusaders, and POX creates new cutie marks. Why not just make the Little Fillies all "crusaders?"

Well we could call it "Harmony" the actual fanfiction crossover did that. I STILL think a better name would be Elysium. That was the Greek mythological "Heaven" that existed in the Underworld, where the exalted of the gods would go when they died. If Tartarus, the Greek mythological Hell exists to them . . . (yeah I'm STILL trying to wrap my head around that!) Also is nicely in keeping with the "maybe religious, maybe not" theme by it being underwater. Hence, the Underworld.

Also, if POX = ADAM, what are we gonna call Plasmids? Should we make them more like Infinite's Vigors and just call them "potions?" given how POX is refined into something usable, and how potions alone aren't something unheard of in Equestria that makes the most sense to me. Thoughts? Arguments?

That's . . . actually a pretty good point. It could be that whoever is the "Atlas" character tries that same spell to become an Alicorn. Fittingly enough, that spell affected cutie-marks. Perhaps Prince Praetorian (just roll with it for now) tries to infuse himself with the remaining POX in the city and indeed becomes an Alicorn but something of an "imperfect" one. He looks perfectly fine and he has all the power, but his genetic makeup is unstable and he's basically a dead man walking.
