How many of you would give this movie a chance.....

.....if it had nothing to do with MLP:FIM? Like, if it had a completely different set of characters from a completely different setting, but with the same plot of a non-human going to the human world and yada yada? I'm just curious. I personally don't think anything about this movie interests me except for the fact that it's connected to MLP, and I think that speaks negatively about my thoughts on this movie.

Of course it could be complete rubbish, but I am generally open about such ideas, and I really love fantasy (and have a bit fantasy myself xD).

I'd give it a chance if I heard good things about it. As it stands, it's not so much the pony-related subject matter that interests me as it is the fact that the folks at Hasbro have shown they can make really good entertainment and as such I'm interested in anything they make.

Yeah even if it had nothing to do with MLP, I would give it a chance. If it did get popular I'm pretty sure more bronies would get a chance but then more disturbing "images" would happen because this is the internet.

This guy has it right. Half the appeal of Equestria Girls will be how it pertains to FiM. We can assume the characters will be exactly the same in terms of personality to their equine equivalents, and we've followed and bonded with those same characters over three years. Without that tie, it would simply lose so much value interest.

Which makes me concerned for how this movie will turn out, the writers of MLP are good, but really, I don't think it speaks positively about this movie if one's sole interest in it is based on it's relation to another show. I'm not saying it's gonna suck, I think it could turn out good, but the trailer and premise lacking in any interesting content beyond it's connection to FIM is not a good thing. However, at the same time, it's connection to FIM suggests it will be good, ironically.

Hard to say I guess.  On the one hand, having no connection to MLP would probably make me a little more hopeful about the production simply because it wouldn't seem quite as random, unnecessary, and inconsistent in its premise if it had no connection to MLP whatsoever.  On the other hand, it would still sound very generic; I don't like the whole "coming of age" story when placed in the high school setting, and I REALLY don't like the "fish-out-of-water" genre in general, because it's extremely padded out and generic.  I guess overall, if Equestria Girls had no connection to MLP, I'd be just as skeptical as I am now as to how good it will actually turn out, but I'd be far less worried and interested in it simply because it'd have nothing to do with a show so near and dear to my heart.

I was thinking more like the characters being humanoid aliens who entered a portal to the human world and became humans, and had to adjust to life as a human, but them being talking animals is an alternative, but either way, it's just eh to me. Maybe if the trailer seemed like it'd be a funny movie, I'd be interested, but even in that regard it failed as it seems like it has a more serious plot.

You're not lots of people seem to be interested in it, I think either most or at least half of bronies are interested in it, but I'm not sure.

Exactly My tv isnt connected to an antenna its connected to a bunch of games consoles and this pc, I run adblocker on most websites so even if it ends up being preroll advert on youtube I still wouldn't have seen it.

I might try it, but my main reason is the ponies. The ponies make it unique. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, and i am willing to. But still... i like ponies more. Not saying that i'm not looking foward to what ever design they choose!

To be honest, if not for MLP FiM I doubt this movie would even be on my radar. I don't think I'd even know that it existed. The chance for high quality writing and loyalty to the characters I like are the main reasons for my interest in it now, and without those... don't think so.

Would I have given it a chance? Maybe? I did watch 6teen and Total Drama Island, but I didn't watch Littlest Pet Shop or any of the Monster High stuff, so a solid 50/50 chance?

 

If all the pony references hadn't been there, the trailer would by necessity have been a bit different, and they *might* have included something that caught my interest. As it stands, nothing in the trailer interests me outside of the ponies themselves.

I'm going to give it a chance, because face it, we all gave My Little Pony a chance. Go back 4 years and think about that, lol. I hope they do something interesting with it.... unfortunately Louisiana is a blackhole for the showings, so i'll have to find a way to watch it.
