DiscordAnarchy 770 June 17, 2013 Share June 17, 2013 Grab your pitchforks! I am here to suggest, my little ponies, that there should be an episode revolving around the loss of a loved one - the obvious choice being Granny Smith due to her age. There have been times in the past where cartoons and kid's shows tackled and talked about death and I always felt it was a good way to help kids understand - whether it be Chuckie's pet bug in Rugrats, the giant in Care Bears, Jim Henson in Muppets, or the shop-keeper on Seasme Street. So tell me, my little ponies, do you concur?! Just what is a Nega Brony? Click the Sig to find out! Want to join the movement? NavelColt 22,883 June 17, 2013 Share June 17, 2013 Poor Apple Bloom, AJ and Big Mac. Mean old Anarchy is tryin' to orphan you from any and all adults. Honestly, their parents are hinted to be dead as it is. If they are, then I'd vote for using them. Have an episode where the apple siblings are visiting their parents graves or honoring them somehow else. Death doesn't need to be fresh for it to be a valid lesson or focus for an episode.

Well said. It reminds me a lot of the episode of Last Airbender where we see Iroh spending his day in Ba-Sing-Sa only to discover he is heading to a hill to honor the loss of his son on his son's birthday... *drums his claws* Yet it would still bring forth manly tears to the entire community if she perished...heh 1 Just what is a Nega Brony? Sir.Flutter Hooves 2,953 June 17, 2013 Share June 17, 2013 (edited) That...that would be quite sad. Even though Granny Smith has never really been a character we've seen that much, just think of Applejack, Big Mac, and Apple Bloom. Thieir parents died, now their grandmother. I'm against it, but it would be a good episode showing how death effects us all. Rainblow H. Ash 5,091 June 17, 2013 Share June 17, 2013 Oh gosh, it would really stink if Granny Smith kicked the bucket! To be honest, I'm not against an episode covering death, but as Chaotic said, it doesn't have to be a beloved character passing to cover it. Especially not poor ole Granny Smith! 1 #bringbackmerriwetherwillaims
ShadowRose2k 271 June 17, 2013 Share June 17, 2013 Death is a very delicate subject for any kids show to tackle. A living cast member would probly not be apropriate for them to try. A past family member, probly lost due to illness may be a bit easyer to write. Or Pet, Having to Explain death to any child is very difficult, Ive had to do this with my children when we lost our Pet Bunny. ' For obvious reasons its not talked about much in MLP fim. So where are the Ponie Graveyards? Hidden away as we never see them it seems. Or do they use some other method? 1 Other's more Talented than me. http://askflufflepuff.tumblr.com/ www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmY4-RMB0YY
Zygen 6,066 June 17, 2013 Share June 17, 2013 Eh, no I don't really think she should, she can be quite hilarious actually, plus death is a pretty dark theme for what is still targeted for kids. Maybe like CD said they could visit their parents graves, but even then it might be pushing it. Death is to tragic to be a direct death in the show I think, it wouldn't pass well with the rating I imagine, lots of angry mobs of soccer moms would run down over to hasbro. . 5 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Doctor Shuu 797 June 17, 2013 Share June 17, 2013 No. We need her and her crazy old ways; primarily for the comic relief she provides. Besides, death of a magical talking pony is probably a bit too mature for the intended audience, isn't it? Oh crap. Zygen beat me to this. 4 Foolish signature. *Insert relevant signature thing here*

Like i said, Seasme Street and The muppets both covered the deaths of real actors and both of those shows were aimed at kids from grade K-8th. I think people are just too concerned for kids' well beings today thinking they are way too fragile than they really are. It is this over-protection/hyper sensitivity that makes me feel kids are being talked down too. 3 Just what is a Nega Brony? Click the Sig to find out! Want to join the movement? That could be a part of it, but for me and I'm sure other fans it's also that it would mean that Granny Smith, who is a beloved character, would be lost. I suppose one could say that would really, really make us connect with the episode, but man would it suck to lose her. I personally don't see anything wrong with covering death in a kids cartoon if handled correctly, but like I said, losing Granny Smith would just feel... abnormal, to say the least. 2 #bringbackmerriwetherwillaims
Yamato 1,348 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 That would be a negative, Ghost Rider. I don't know about you, but I like my television upbeat. I get bored with dark and sad, mostly because I am unable to experience such emotions. This is why I like this show. dekutree64 713 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 Heck no. We get way too much of that in real life, not to mention practically any show other than MLP. No reason to go torturing ourselves unnecessarily. Understanding that people die doesn't make it any less bad when it happens, anyway. I don't know why so many stories insist on centering themselves around it, unless it's just the creator's outlet for coping with their own grief, in which case go right ahead but I ain't gonna watch it.
Megas 28,129 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 No, their parents are already hinted to be dead, lets not kill the only thing the Apples have as a parental figure just for the sake of a death episode, especially if they could already use their parents
Radiance64 7,059 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 Is it bad that I lol'd at the title? Anyway, no she should not die, I don't think it would benefit anything really, although being as old as she is something might be bound to happen eventually(did she ever get that new hip btw?). :huh;
~Squishy Skies~ 756 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 Heavens no! At least not Granny Smith, of all characters! Plus, Granny Smith is immortal. She cannot die under such simplistic circumstances. It'd take an army of King Sombra's to take down that awesome old lady! 1 Rabbit-Kin ~Paris' Waifu
Scootalove 10,692 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 No! Granny Smith is the only adult figure that Applejack can look up to now since, AJ's parents are dead. Without Granny Smith, Applejack would have to care for her brother and sister and she would not be able to cope with herself without her beloved grandmother and her parents. Then, it would turn into a Bruce Wayne situation. 2 Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules

DiscordAnarchy 770 June 18, 2013 Author Share June 18, 2013 Hm. I think many of my little ponies are biased due to their love of the dear - yet slightly senial - Granny Smith. The only other ancient pony is that old-timer who has a pipe for a cutie mark but he is not part of the discussion. CHILDREN MUST LEARN! 2 Just what is a Nega Brony? Click the Sig to find out! Callisto 1,877 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 I was browsing the forum while quietly singing along to the music I was listening. I stopped as soon as I saw this thread. Now, to adress the topic: No. Like mentioned before, you can cover death without killing off a character. Doing an episode about AJ, AB, and Big Mac's parents would work better. I added nothing to this thread whatsoever. Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something? Mephala 2,635 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 Should Granny Smith die? Do you want to die? Because I would happily kill you. :3 Were they to kill off Granny, I would probably forsake the show entirely. (I still watch the Rarity bits.) And no, it'd never happen. Lauren Faust did say she wanted to say the Apple family parents were dead but they thought death was too much for kids, I believe. I don't imagine that will ever change. Anyways, there was a death already. Remember that pony in Read It and Weep? Go to 0:24, on the right. He dieeeeed!

Shanks 10,817 June 18, 2013 Share June 18, 2013 No, I have said many times and I will say again that I am not opposed to the show covering death as it has been covered thoughtfully many times in quite a few childrens shows and it has been hinted at though stated only by the writers that Applejack's parents are dead. But because this show has the double standard of being a "girls show" in addition to being a childrens show they will need to be even more careful if they are going to cover the subject of death and killing off a character even a secondary one like Granny Smith is even more risky than actually explaining what happened to Applejack's parents.
