How I subtly trolled my parents...

Okay, first off, long story short my parents wanted me gone from the fandom the minute they found out I was in it. They also probably think I'm already out of it due to the lack of conversation between us about it.

 

Well, if you haven't guessed already, I'm not out of the fandom. Far from it. While I've been working on converting friends of mine (albeit unsuccessfully), I've come across a lot of great fandom music. One such piece was "First Flight" by PonyEveningStar:

 

After finding out that this piece has sheet music, I had my mom listen to the song, which she loved and had me print off the sheet music. Here's the thing, though: she doesn't know it's from the Brony fandom. So while she was busy telling me how awesome it is (and rightfully so), I'm just standing there with a smile on my face. She asked for the artist, but I said I'd found it anonymously, and that it's location couldn't be traced. She said it was a "great mystery". I also said it wasn't titled, so it has no possible way to be found. She loves it nonetheless, and I intend to show it to others, revealing it's origin after their reactions. This could be the beginning of something great.

 

So that's my story for the day. Thoughts?

This might actually be a good idea. It's a nice way of showing her that bronies aren't 'freaks' or anything. Try to keep doing this; make sure you say what their reactions are.

Seems legit. I love projects like that. I did something awhile back that's a bit similar to this. I sure do hope you aren't making a mistake with this though. They could feel as though you betrayed their trust.

Anyway, I tried to troll my sister one time (don't ask) all because she's a bitch to me, and to have fun. I didn't realize you can troll your parents by secretly listening to something awesome! I feel like trolling my dad by telling him Discord is John de lancie, and the fact that it's a character in MLP and hear him say: THIS MUST BE EVIL SORCERY!!! or something like that. He is kinda against the fandom just because its loved by dudes. XD

Nice. Does your mom play? Did you get her to play it? You should try to get her to play it in a performance setting. And I definitely agree that you should get more pieces and show them to her too. See how many you can get her to like before you reveal the awful truth

EveningStar is the only pony artist I listen to. It's interesting that you managed to get your mother to like it, but that doesn't really constitute as "trolling" in my opinion. *laughs*

Either way, glad she likes it. Perhaps she will see that those who call themselves "bronies" aren't all perverts. :-p

That's a great way to introduce people to the fandom subtly. Show people the beautiful pieces of art that members of the community are making. Show them how this fandom isn't just composed of a bunch of "man-children" or "perverts", but people who find enjoyment and a form of escapism from a wonderfully written cartoon, and are even taking time out of their day to show how much they appreciate the series by creating masterpieces like this very song. 

 

Keep at it, bud. Hopefully we'll get more members of the herd this way

I was a bit worried about this possibly backfiring on me, that's why I extended on my plan. First off, understand that my dad's "finest" argument against Bronies was "if your friends aren't doing it." Ignorance aside, if that's what he's going to use against me, then I'm going to use it against him. In other words, I'll convert some friends of mine by starting with the music, then moving on to a few episodes, then finally revealing it to my parents, who, of course, I'll be showing more Brony music anonymously. That's my plan.

He loved it and well it all ended up with him becoming a brony.

We may never know what happened...but speculating his reaction was probably something of revolt and rejection at the origin. I'd really like to hear the rest, though.
