MelancholicMemory 2,025 June 26, 2013 Share June 26, 2013 @@Cutelestia, I think we're getting ahead of ourselves when we try to predict technological advances decades into the future. Lots of things can happen in 10 or 20 years. I'm sure nobody predicted the first steam engine or penicillin or the wheel in advance. Big discoveries can happen any time that change the course of history. History does not follow a neat predictable map. It's because of this that I think "futurists" and whatnot are mostly making blind speculation. Who knows, we might even blow ourselves up before we ever perfect such nanobots. As for virtual Equestria, that's easy to achieve now through lucid dreaming, which isn't too hard and doesn't require you to mess with your brain like nanobots would. I can kind of see virtual reality nanobots being kind of like a super LSD in the future, where people get addicted to living lives that are much better than their real ones. Anyway, this IS a cool idea, and I can't wait to see what awesome advances in science and technology are made in the next few decades.
Cutelestia 189 June 26, 2013 Author Share June 26, 2013 Here is a small explanation of various levels of Virtual Reality: 1: Augumented Reality: You can view it with Google Glass or Smartphone. It's not real but an illusion. You can make ponies appear but they aren't even holograms; just images on the screen. 2: Oculuslike: You can see the world and with the use of things like omni you can play FPS games. But you don't feel like you are the character one the screen. 3: DMT Induction: Also called dreams, your brain produces DMT when you sleep. However dreams are in fact drug inducted hallucinations. Lucid Dreams are hard to achieve and unreliable, and not as real as real life. 4: Nanobots: Also called FIVR (Full Immersion Virtual Reality), this will be a reality in about 25 years. You will be the character in the world instead of seeng it on a screen. Imagine Matrix without dystopian twist; this will be the same thing. After you turn the nanobots on, you will be unconscious in this world but you will be in another world in a new body. This will be as real as this reality. @@Cutelestia, I think we're getting ahead of ourselves when we try to predict technological advances decades into the future. Well, these predictions are made by people like Kurzweil Ray or Michio Kaku, and the first one is basing his prediction on Moore's Law. Thanks to this, he has been accurate for over 30 years. Paianis 489 June 26, 2013 Share June 26, 2013 I probably wouldn't try it in the first year of operation, I'm worried about what the technology could do to the rest of my brain. Give it maybe five or ten years, according to the article I'd probably be around 50 years old when I try it. That's fine by me, as long as I'm still into FiM at that time. 1 Vimeo

Thanks to this, he has been accurate for over 30 years. I know this, but I'm just saying we shouldn't assume these predictions to be fact because I know that things could happen to drastically change where humanity is going, socially, politically, and technologically. Though the men who make these predictions are very intelligent and educated, I think they're coming at it with a strict lens of the hard sciences, while other factors can drastically effect our technological development. For example, we probably never would have put a man on the moon (at least not so soon) if it weren't for the Cold War.

Of course, if there was another Cold War now and the major achievement would be Nanobot Virtual Reality, it could take not 26 but 10 years. But we have another war: Console War. I predict that these nanobots will in fact be a console, like Playstation 8 or Xbox -1.
Winona the Dog 1,984 June 26, 2013 Share June 26, 2013 Sounds great but don't some of us already have some of these experiences in our dreams? I already had a few dreams about me being with Twilight. AR is that if you look at something through like a phone, you see those images. An example could be AR games for the 3DS, while a DMT is what we see in our sleep. The nano-bots on the other hand, will make it look real, but look like something through a Matrix simulation. So, if these nanobots get in our body, and we turn them on, we are in the simulation as we speak? Wow. *Insert werid Matrix meme here Fours words, one goal: DROP DA BASS MAN. ~ soniccam1

Asher 101 June 27, 2013 Share June 27, 2013 Thank you for this. That gives me hope that most likley during my lifetime there will be virtual reality. My life's dream is go to Equestria. I'm serious my #1 dream is to go to Equestria (even if it is just virtual reality). And knowing that it could be possible during my lifetime! That's great. Now to pass the time for 26 years until dreams become reality. I totally feel you, bro. It gives me hope, too. What would *you do in Equestria? What pony type would you be? Where would you work? Who would your friends be? I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!! Signature by dear Sir Lunashy, a pony everypony should know.

Who would your friends be? I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!! I just hope that it won't be like with gameloft, for example you will be able to hug Princess Celestia once for only 0.99$. I think that there will be two games; one made by Hasbro for younger people, and one made by Bronies for ''special'' interaction with ponies. I hope that I will be still in deep love with Twilight when I will be 51 years old. Edited June 27, 2013 by Cutelestia

Cactus 155 July 25, 2013 Share July 25, 2013 I'm going to be honest and say this thread is really creeping me out. That's really hard to do. I honestly hope you're joking. "After you will inject nanobots into your brain..." Okay, stop right there. Nope. But that's beside my point. I highly doubt we're actually going to have technology that will make us "immortal," especially not in this century. That's not even a good idea to begin with. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one here who doesn't want to live in a fantasy world.
Rethajni 2,593 August 21, 2013 Share August 21, 2013 Well actually i practiced the art of Lucid Dream which is quite similar to the matrix stuff i assure you... It really worth it! And no nanomachines required! Once you can control your dreams in a high level you'll be truly in Equestria like you imagined! I suggest you to try, trust me, when you mastered lucid dream you'll have a second life literally Please check my GIF shop! https://mlpforums.com/topic/199911-open-rethajnis-ych-comission-shop/#comment-6247435
SkyDream 315 August 21, 2013 Share August 21, 2013 This reminds me of the Anime Sword Art Online, where you put on a virtual reality "Nerve Gear" helmet, and your nerve impulses transfer to your in-game avatar, and you "become" your avatar. Of course, in the Anime, the "logout" button was removed, and if you died in-game, you died in real life due to lost nerve connections. Virtual reality isn't the best way I'd like to experience something. The farthest I'd ever go is a lucid dream due to sleeping anyway, or the Oculus Rift technology. They call me Loyalty 1,948 August 21, 2013 Share August 21, 2013 This world is already a decadent drug full of illusive feelings, that vanish away taking the non worthy lives to the selfish end they deserve, but by this way the little inocence remaining suffers struggling against an inevitable death. And that very feeling in the bottom of your chest is what they take.I did not come into this world to escape from it's decadence. I came trying to change it. No matter how much pain and darkness I'll have to face in the future, 'cause the darkness only can make me stronger, teaching me to appreciate that dying light even more.No more illusions.Others might be suffering while I'm trying to escape. So I apologize for not being a coward. PS: Even in lucid dreams you are still closed into an illusion, trapped inside your body. Try to disconnect from it while you are "living" the lucid realm, so maybe, and only maybe you'll be able disconnect the incarnated conscience from your own body. Once it's done check the reality without fading into black or you most probably might end up falling into your body once again. Then retrieve the forgotten knowledge from your true body and put this data into your temporary mind system, which is not only yours so be careful, to so avoid lose this info once you woke up again.Apologies for my english.
ThunderHooftheBrave 11 August 22, 2013 Share August 22, 2013 So your dream is to live as a pony in Equestria, right? You want to hug Fluttershy, fly, use magic, hang out with Luna? You will, in the year 2039. Why? http://www.futuretimeline.net/21stcentury/2039.htm#full_immersion_virtual_reality After you will inject nanobots into your brain, you will be able to access a matrix! In virtual reality, you will be able to do anything. It is possible that virtual Equestria will be made. I hope that I made your day better by giving you hope for this rough decade... But the only problem is I wouldn't want to leave! How ever, that would be really cool especially if you didn't have to go to a place like Recall or something to get it done after the first time like you were riding the train you could turn it on and then you could be awakened by a special alarm or something you know? That would be neat. But also, how much would it cost? If it costs like 5 mil or something then it might be a while before someone gets that sort of money unless 5 mil in 2039 is like a night at the bar or something. Oblivion 20,266 August 23, 2013 Share August 23, 2013 Are you shitting me, technology like this is actually being made. Yes I'm not always satisfied with my own life, but I don't want to live in a sugar coated lie either. As much fun as it'd be to hang out with ponies, I'd feel like I was running away from my problems instead of eliminating them. But aren't video games today more or less used to escape our problems? I mean think about it you wouldn't have to stay in virtual Equestria forever, just like you don't play video games forever!
Jamesblorg39welsh 125 August 23, 2013 Share August 23, 2013 If I could hang out with Zechariah I would give up all the money I have earned In my lifetime however how would you switch between reality and ponys "If you feel the need to treat me like garbage, I'll feel the need to throw you into the back of a compressing garbage truck." "I'd rather "go to hell" for hugging a guy I like then makeout in heaven with a girl I don't." Heretick-Tock 462 August 23, 2013 Share August 23, 2013 Why use nanobots when astral projection is completely free and all you have to worry about is getting your soul ripped from your body, never to return to the life you once had, drifting through the void of the astral plane until your time of reincarnation has come. You will face many of your demons, some that will instill fears that you have never seen before. You suffering will not come without torment.K? 1 ELITE HOT DOG BUNS™
Dsanders 5,747 August 23, 2013 Share August 23, 2013 I never actually thought about that, but it definitely sounds like it could be a really interesting and grand opportunity to have the experience of a life time. With advancements in technology, I'd say that this could definitely be a possibility one day...if not now! If I had the money and overall investment, I'd probably go for it. The only thing that would bug me though, is that though I would be entering a world of pure paradise and the very world that has everything I have ever loved from the show, the thought of none of it being actually real would get really relentless and frustrating to cope with. I would definitely love it at first, with seeing all of Equestria and interacting with all the ponies I love, but after awhile, the thoughts that nothing around me is real, would eventually begin to haunt me, and possibly torture me. :/ It could eventually make me depressed. Like I could be hugging my favorite pony, Pinkie Pie, in this virtual world, and it would kill me to know that she's not even there....no matter how real it all seems. Then again, this is a cartoon we're talking about here...but still, the quality of everything in the virtual world would most likely just not seem real enough for me to accept. I would love to try the technology out and I would definitely take full advantage of it! But in the end, I would still be longing...and probably longing even more after the experience, for the ponies and the world of Equestria to actually exist out there...somewhere. I think visiting Equestria via virtual reality would be amazing and a beautiful opportunity to take. It would be the closest we bronies can get to being in Equestria and seeing and befriending our favorite ponies! But still...we know it's not real, we know the ponies won't be real. They'll be super realistic, but they won't be real. Only if the ponies in the virtual Equestria possessed 100% interactive capability, total cannon personality, and near sentient awareness would I'd be convinced that these ponies were real. Who knows though. As awesome of a opportunity this would be, I probably wouldn't be able to get the thought of all of this practically being a "sugar-coated lie" out of my head.
