Is Sunset Shimmer the Worst Major Villain?

To be honest; I like Sunset a lot better as a unicorn. It came downhill as the plot built up to her final confrontation.

 

I will admit her demon transformation was epic, but her plan to take over Equestria was a bit dumbfounded. I think she's worse then Sombra really.

Sombra was actually a really clever planner if you look at what he did BEFORE that twilight had to deal with. during his actual screentime, he just kept chipping away at the force field, (which must have taken some stamina) and then trapped twilight and tried to get spike. still, he would have been much better as a villain if he had had as much charisma as Discord. (although, in Celestia shipping, I prefer CelestiaxSombra over CelestiaxDiscord. Discord is just better single.

My basic problem with Sunset Shimmer is her resolution.  She attempts to enslave all of Equestria and then suddenly turns into just wanting to have friends.  Her punishment was also stupid. "You blew up half of the school, attempted to frame another student for trashing the prom, posted a video of that student in attempt to ridicule her, kidnapped a puppy, and stole a kingdom's greatest power source.  So we're just gonna make you rebuild that wall ok?"

 

I love the fact that you start off that list with enslavement and move on to wrecking the prom...

 

Anyway, Shimmer sucked. Her design as a pony was pretty kickass though, so it's unfortunate.

The movie seemed to be under the impression that Sunset's problem was that she didn't know how to make friends. I must be really bad at reading characters, because I thought her problem was that she was a power-hungry wannabe dictator.

 

It's not so much that she was an inherently weak villain, because she actually has a really interesting backstory, what with being Celestia's former personal student, as well as possibly being considered for princesshood. But the movie expanded on none of that.

Sombras Lines is not only what he did. He is an actions speak louder than words villain. He defeated Shining Armor and attacked the Mane six. Lurked Around the shield Cadence made so she would pass out. Filled his Castle with traps That Twilight couldnt have figured if it wasnt for Celestia and Spike and thats only because Spike got theur late, if he was next to her when she opened the door using dark magic Sombra would have won. and He activated the last Trap by himself Eliminating Twilight making her useless. When Spike Jumped out of the tower Sombra attacked him without waiting a Second. And the only reason he lost was because Shining used the god tier wife throwing atack which would Kill Chuck Norris. So Him losing was a Fluke while Sunset Losing was her being weak.

 

Sorry friend no ones buying it.  The only reason sombre is remotely good, is how much work fans have put into sombre

Sunset shimmer gets a pass like i give everyone a pass in Equestrian girls simply because she's in a crappy movie where everyone is bad.

Sunset Shimmer is one of the better villains, an unpopular opinion. My order of villains is:

1. Sombra

2. Sunset Shimmer

3. Chrysalis

4. Discord

5. Nightmare Moon. 

I liked Sunset's back-story and the fact that she had to rely on skill rather than brute strength like all the other villains was refreshing. Now, to counter the points in the first post.

 

1. Sunset is more powerful than Discord. Notice how when Discord gets hit with the Elements, everything he's done is instantly fixed. When Sunset gets hit, what she had corrupted required a separate shot. Add to the fact that Sunset can hand out power ups and that the entire school (including Human Celestia and Luna) will be ponies and Sunset's plan is pretty solid. Also, Sunset can just mind-control ponies as she goes through.

2. It was a homage to Nightmare Moon

3. In human form, Sunset was far and beyond the most intelligent villain and in demon mode, she was very powerful

4. Her redemption was vastly more powerful than Luna's since we see signs that Sunset isn't all that bad before hand. Remember how she said "I'm not a monster" and actually let Spike go? Sunset wasn't trying to be evil and the crown hurt her(notice she's crying while transforming". Much better than Luna, who barely had any back-story other than "I got jealous, commit genocide".

Sunset's demon form also reminded me of Shonen, what with looking like a Sailor Moon villain crossed with a Super Saiyan. Sunset also spent no time screwing around, once she had the power to kill Twilight, she tried.

If she wanted to turn them into ponies and then attack the human world it would have made sense, but she is planning to attack an entire world where the popolation have the same power and much more experience. Then when she will cross the portal the crown will stop working for her and become useless. And even if it still could work one element is not gonna do crap on Discord, just like when Twilight tried the first time, and i don't think that the elements will work with one who is not the original wielder of the elements;

2) It was a lame copy of Luna Defeat, showing how little they cared about giving us something original;

3) Is not that she is smart, or else she could have stolen once again the crown or have found more smart ways to get what she want. The only reason that her plan works is just because everyone in the damn movie is a damn idiot. Her plan to frame Twilight by destroying the gym was stupid and it would have caused her plan to fail if it wasn't for Twilight to fix the gym;

4) Her redemption show just of how rush the writer took in the movie. For all the movie we are supposed to consider Sunset nothing but a bully who wants to get more power and only when she is defeated (Wich is also one big rushed thing). Luna became Nightmare Moon because she felt lonely and unprecciated and left the dark side took over her, but behind all that evil emotion there was actually one sad alicorn who wanted to feel accepted and loved.

IMO. I like Sunset and Sombra for being smart, having a good design, and not being brutes who just say "I'm more powerful, your argument is invalid". I like Chrysalis for her song and design but her intelligence left a lot to be desired. I liked the Alicorn Amulet for its aura but the fact that Trixie wore it annoyed me. Discord was a moron with way too much power and was just a child stomping ants, not threatening. Nightmare Moon is a cliched villain with a pathetic backstory

Of course you should agree with me that the climax was to much fast. She goes to "Im not a monster" to "ahahahahah im gonna rule Equestria and kill you all!" to "Buhhuughuhhuuhhuhuh, im just so lonely and i don't know how to make friends" is rushed. They could have done it much better. I consider Sunset the worst villain not because she sucks, but of how much more she could have done if the movie settings weren't highschool stuff. Sunset is a shadow of what she could have been.

I haven't seen the movie, and I won't see it in a looong long time, even if I know what happens in it and all...

She's one of the best villains! Why? Because she has style... I just like her looks, that's all. I'm not much of a villain-fan overall, never really grasped why people are so into Discord and all. I guess, I can somewhat understand it, but I can't relate to it, I mean, I've never gotten that interested in a vilain. Sunset Shimmer just looks good, period.

I was really excited about Sunset Shimmer's backstory and potential at the beginning of the film, but once you find out the writers aren't going to give us anything good with it, it was a little disappointing. She had so much potential but imo she's my least favourite.

No. In my opinion NIghtmare Moon was the worst major villain. She barely did ANYTHING to the ponies and she was easily defeated
