Is Sunset Shimmer the Worst Major Villain?

I voted yes because she's definitely not the most fearsome of the villains.  As a pony, she's kind of harmless.  Celestia or Luna could easily take her out.  It's a different matter entirely as a human though, and here's why: She's a teenage viper.  She's the girl I'd steer clear of. She made a decent villain as a human, still not fearsome though.

 

As for the ending, it was very anti-climactic.  A bit of a let down.  

 

I think Pinkie Pie made a better villain.  A hundred Pinkie Pies running around is a pretty scary thought.

nah i just dont see her as a villainess(if thats actually a word) it feels like she was just a jealous teenager who got jealous of twillight, i feel like she and The GAP Trixie would be better of as one of those villains that reformed and became good

Sombra was based since he had no lines..so much waste potential.

Chrysalis just STOOD there while they took her bucking prisoner way.

Nightmare Moon wasn't too great since she wasn't explored well until probably in season 4 soon. She simply needs more aire time. She was cocky and she fell fast for it (Some challenges seemed weak)

Discord was a fail at one point, he's the best though. He didn't try defeating them when they rejoined. He was too prideful. Hecould just

mind screw them.

Sombra is. He had so much potential..they killed him..

I don't know since I don't know Sauron..?It also didn't help that he didn't really /do/ as much as I hoped he would. He had soooo much back story and he was ready to be evil, but they didn't give him aire time or show us that he can fight back strongly.

In my opinion, Sunset Shimmer wasn't the worst villain by any stretch. Sombra takes that crown for me. At least she had some actual speaking lines. Neither of them even approach discords levels of awesome.

I say, "He completely disabled Shining's magic in a matter of seconds (Chrysalis presumably spent days trying to do the same), outlasted Cadence in a DAYS-LONG battle of magical endurance (with virtually no fatigue of his own to show for it afterward), spammed OVER 9000 curses and traps, managed to re-corrupt most of the Empire using just a small fragment of his horn, and ultimately could only be beaten by some kind of Spirit Bomb (courtesy of AN ENTIRE KINGDOM supercharging the Crystal Heart)."

 

Seriously, the guy was like the MLP equivalent of Majin Buu.

You'd expect more then him actually reaching the heart. With NMM, she broke the balls resembling the elements, for Discord, he honestly did hide them and had to send them all into chaos and disharmony without touching them, Chrysalis had tried to fight back, hell, Sunset Shimmer had the crown again after getting it taken from Twilight. You have magic that can GRAB things. MAGIC, you can't magically take it back? I just wanted a little more flare that would be shown for him like we had with other villains.

Yes, yes, and yes.

 

Even King Sombra is objectively a better villain. And in addition to being a horrid villain and a generic mean girl, am I really expected to believe that she so easily redeemed herself?

 

1. Shimmer was banished into this world quite some time ago, obviously before Nightmare Moon returned (So no Luna) and Discord was still in stone (So no Discord) and she probably does not know Shining Armor or Cadence since again, she was in that world for a long time. The only one that she knows is there, is Celestia. Plus, if she turned all of those teenagers into demon beings, that would be pretty powerful against Celestia alone, which again, that is all she thinks. Remember, Celestia was defeated by Chrysalis so she does have her limits.

 

2. I see this as an homage TO Nightmare Moon and the original episodes. There were many little hints at the first episodes and honestly, I thought they were nice touches. Plus, Shimmer's emotions after her defeat were a lot more powerful in my opinion than Luna.

 

3. This point, I do not even understand. What exactly do you mean here? For one, Shimmer is staying in that world, so, comparing her to the others who are in the original world, does not make total sense. Even then, she took control over an Element of Harmony and was going to use it against Equestria. That is a bit different I'd say.

 

4. All we can have is opinion, but this one I just disagree with. Many have stated that her redemption was really cliche and blah blah, and in some ways, it might be, but there was a strong sense of emotion from that scene. Her crying and fully admitting that she had treated everyone horribly AND fully realizing that she may never be able to make friends with them, I nearly cried the second time I watched it, literally. I guess it depends on how deep you look into it.

 

Also, some have complained that it was really stupid that the excuse was she never had friends and all of that (Which, that actually is a good reason to be evil/misunderstood, or be a douche) but here is the thing, the show is called My Little Pony: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC. Of course that is going to be the main point. In this particular case, like I said, I thought it was very well done, because of the emotion of the scene. Plus, this is not the first time it was a cause for someone to be a douche to everyone, Discord was like that as well (In combination with his chaotic nature, just like Shimmer is in combination with her hatred to Celestia)

 

Again though, this is all just my opinion. I really enjoyed the film and I think Shimmer is quite the good villain and her in demon berserk form was actually intimidating.

I got to tell you, I do not understand you at all. But I will respect your opinion enough to leave it at that.

 

 

well she seems to be the first villain on the show to actually try and MURDER twilight.

Because everything done by Nightmare Moon and King Sombra was just for show, right? Every other villain just wanted to take her out for stale tea and crumpets?

Okay so a Blood thirsty and possible rapist tyrant who could defeated everyone who was in the crystal empire all by himself and only lost due to a fluke not a threat? by that logic Lich from Adventure Time isnt a threat either

A villain has be be more than technically powerful. If the viewer isn't invested in the conflict, it doesn't matter. The Crystal Empire utterly failed to invest me in its conflict, thus Sombra never engaged me as a threat. The same was not the case for you. It's a reasonable difference of opinion and I stand by my own.

True, all of the other villains ultimately did THEMSELVES in via boasting one too many times (shame, too, because, with the exception of Sunset, they were all otherwise competent threats), whereas Sombra never once gave his enemies that kind of opening, instead forcing them to go to last-minute extremes just to catch him off-guard. Plus, his pre-laid trap systems far exceeded the on-the-spot traps of the other villains.

 

Just several reasons why I rank him as 2nd only to Discord among the villains.

Sombra was truly a genius. He planned out every step of his return and the only reason he lost was because Spike was there. That is a great villian to me, someone who wasn't exactly outsmarted or trumped. The good guys just got lucky.

 

Since Discord was actually redeemed, it's safe to say that Sombra is my favorite villain. But I guess most other bronies don't see the appeal because he wasn't as silly as Discord, or they couldn't make as many naughty pictures of him like with Chrysalis.

Not sure if she was the worst or not, but she sure as hell is the sexiest.

 

Her plan was literally like every other villains; take over Equestria. But how she went about it probably wasn't the smartest way. But let's consider the fact that she's  just a regular pony, while Nightmare Moon, Discord, and the others were much more than that. So getting an army for her's to command wasn't a bad idea.

I thought her plan was quite silly overall.. I would like to call her the worst villain of all since she was very poor at her job. Her plan wasn't thought out honestly, what would the teenage army do once transformed into ponies? (As I recall when Sunset was stealing the crown she was a pony. So I'd imagine the rest of them to be ponies when entering the other world) Surely they're not used to being on all fours. But of course others would argue they would all be turned to demons before going and I can agree with that.

 

. Like you said also there was no back story too her she just basically came out of nowhere. When I saw her transform into this demon form it almost reminded me of something out of Panty and Stocking (lol) Throughout the whole movie I was undecided whether or not I wanted to like her... and most importantly if I liked that design. Her colours were quite harsh imo..

 

If I had to pick them on a scale from best to poor it'd be

Discord - NMM - Chrysalis - Sombra - Sunset

 

Apart from that great movie, my favourite villain has to be Discord because I love how he thinks and deals with things. Definately one of the smartest, and of course at least he had a backstory.

I don't think that she's the worst ya the ending was a bit silly how all of a sudden she feels bad I think she should have gotten suspended or expelled for what she did. I hope if they make a sequel that they touch on what happens to her. In a way they kinda left the ending open because we don't know if she has truly changed. I also think that the defeat scene was to rushed I think they should have made it so Twilight missed the Mirror and had to stay there for the next 30 moons and then ended the movie then made a sequel to see how Twilights time in the other dimension changes her.

I agree with you ^ It was left on pretty much a cliff hanger. I'd like to know what happened once Twilight stepped back through the portal. Could she really of trusted Sunset alone? It just makes you think and it irritates me a little how we'll probably never know

 

Though I was kind of expecting at the end that Twilight would take Sunset back with her and let her start fresh as a pony and teach her the magic of friendship just as Celestia had to her. Would make sense lol
