Are Brony musicians not taken seriously in the music world?

This question popped into my head while discussing Sim Gretina with a friend.

Sim is a really great musician and he's one of the few musicians who got me into making music in the first place. I find his music way better than most Electronic artists who have over 200,000 followers on SoundCloud. He's not even signed to a record label. (@Freewave once said that even the most successful Brony artists aren't signed to anything)

So this brings to the question: Are Brony musicians not taken seriously in the music world because they're Bronies?

Huh, admiring the work of brony musicians has been the staple in my book when it comes to music.

However, you could be partially right or wrong.

Reason why right? Take note that this world is full of people who hate each other and anything possible, and bronies to this day are still somewhat infamous towards the media like big news outlets, and they could be not taken seriously due to being bronies.

However, I say, music is a form of liberal and expressive art, and any music soundtrack out there deserves a chance, that's why there's so much underrated brony musicians in my opinion, if given the chance, they could be something bigger then they are.

That could probably be the reason why, since ever since the fandom known as bronies was created people never took us seriously even if we have talented artists, musicians, writers, and voice actors. The media has always labeled us and other things in life as '' what's wrong with society'' , and it is a fact that we do have talented musicians. But, the way they would be accepted into the music industry outside of brony music is if they take a serious route and be taken seriously.

lol I've honestly found that the media actually supports idiots like us much more than you guys think. Now, does the music industry not take bronies seriously? I doubt it. I'm not the biggest in music, but if Rollingstone seems fine with us, I think we're in the clear.

I think a reason a lot of the popular brony artists aren't signed into anything is because outside of the fandom they are completely unknown. I believe it'd be really cool if some of them try to more than just please us wackjob bronies, but uh every somewhat popular guy in the fandom has told me that they are happier with mainly trying to please the fandom exclusively.

First of all, I would like to say Sim is amazing! Second off, I believe this is a very interestinging topic, I think that it honestly isn't the fact that  he is a brony, or any of the other musicians for that matter, I think it is the fact that they haven't truly been discovered yet, could you imagine if a brony musician actually made it big? I think that would not only help the musicians, but the whole brony fandom as well, it would be a huge victory.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Archie now signed to a label? Granted, he doesn't really produce anymore pony related tracks, but he started off doing so.

Anyway, I'm personally not fussed about record labels. I just don't think labels are entirely necessary anymore, particularly for electronic artists. Thanks to technology, you don't have to worry as much about fancy recording studios (although they do help), as setting up a home studio is far more affordable and convenient then it once was. As far as agents and promotion goes, again, a lot of artists are making it big without any of that due to the internet.

I guess it would be kind of cool for the artist him/herself if they got "mainstream", or offered a record deal, but personally, I'm not too worried. I enjoy the music as it is, it's popularity doesn't really bother me.

Well, I'm sure that most of their audience (bronies) do take them seriously. As for non-bronies however, they most likely wouldn't, given the immense prejudice towards anything related to My Little Pony. I believe that it's this that is making some Brony artists hesitate to make more MLP-related music in order to have their music taken seriously, like Alex S and Omnipony, who have seemingly gave up with it entirely.

Obviously brony musicians are taken seriously within the fandom, but I think they are beginning to be taken seriously outside of it too. I've seen several comments on YouTube from people saying they aren't into MLP, but love certain songs, musicians or the music in general.  It takes time, but once word gets out that the music is seriously good, there's no going back and it will only get more popular.

There are several musicians that I can't believe aren't signed, and I think the main thing is that outside the fandom, they aren't too well known.  The MLP thing may throw some people off at first, but once people get past that they will discover just how many amazing songs and artists there are in this fandom.

I think its only a matter of time before one of the popular brony musicians gets signed.  Once that happens, it could open the gates for more brony artists to follow.  However, I still think some artists may have to change names or alter songs to appeal to the masses, or perhaps they would just find more sneaky ways of making MLP music.  Dyro has a song called Leprechauns & Unicorns, subtle things like that in titles can work.  Many brony songs have nothing to do with MLP besides the title of the song and possibly name of the artist anyway, right?

I don't think being a brony would lead to these musicians not being taken seriously.  They have undeniable talent, and that's what counts.  The music industry is a business, and eventually, someone will see the money making potential these people have.  If they can get this big of a following inside a relatively limited group, just think of the potential they'd have once they'r marketed for the general public.  Like I said, some things would have to change for the masses, but the talent and following is already there.

If I owned a record label I know I would try to get some of these brony musicians signed.

You can see I've thought about this a lot laugh.png .

I don't think it's any kind of "Brony bias" that's keeping them out, I think that the simple fact is, they're a big fish in a small, very self contained pond.  While we have shown tremendous growth in the past few years.  we're still a relatively small percentage of the population.

It's like asking why people who have shows on the internet haven't gotten major television deals.  They're big on the web, but web shows still don't get nearly the numbers that major television shows get.

In all honesty i will say the brony music community has grown to a level where the music industry should be noticing, it just determines on how we deliver the message.

Now this is coming from a brony that puts vocals in his music, so this primarily focuses on that more than instrumentals and remixes

I dont directly reference the show in my music (unless its a just for fun song or a cover) so i can expand my audience, instead i "subliminal brony messages" you might say, things a brony would spot that a non brony listener wouldnt. Ive show my music to non brony friends and they're like oh this is good and then I'm like "its based on a my little pony fanfic" or something and theyre like what?!

Now another factor that ties in is the genre. Of coarse EDM is the largest genre in the fandom, but brony music has expanded into the genres of rock, folk, and even country. Artists like prince whatever, aviators, and forrest rain accomplish bringing pop punk and metal into the fandom.

I myself record in these genres, my music stays in the punk genre with my power vocals while adding metal, folk, and for my new album im working on, EDM. With influences like Breathe Carolina, Owl City, Attack Attack, We Came as Romans, Bring Me the Horizon, and so on. Mixing together a punk and hard/post core feel with the beats and synths of EDM.

So is it possible for brony musicians to make recording deals? Its just in the deliverance of the lyrics.

Me personally, I find brony musicians to actually be rather overrated. Sure, they don't get an extreme amount of recognition outside the fandom, but within it, they are pretty much worshiped. I never understood this. There are many talented musicians in the fandom, sure, but their music has never been all that special to me. I sometimes feel like some think that because they are musicians AND bronies, this makes them special by default.
