 Light Eye thought about it intently, then carefully selected 4 cards and laid them out flat.

 

"I think these should do. Now, tell me, what happens if given this knowledge I choose to take steps specifically to deny my fate?"

 

((The choice is yours, but I will point out that the best card to represent Light Eye is the Magician.))

((I'm still not using actual Tarot cards. So the magician may be in there somewhere, but it's going to be different no doubt.))

The four cards shown were as such: A colored glass window that was in the shape of a tree, three fillies playing a game of hop-scotch, and a hoof print in the mud. The fourth card would be hard to make out, as it seemed to be composed of multiple images that were laid on top of each other so that individual lines and shapes blurred into a confusing mass. This last card Steeleye took up and examined, a frown across his lips. "You... are probably the first one I've met to draw this card," he said carefully. "If you take steps to... make your fate different than what I predict, any number of things could happen. The form of Tarot I use can be explained rather quickly, though it takes a long time to learn how to practice it."

 

"The card flourishes may seem like theatrics, but they do serve a purpose. Magic takes many forms and can be harnessed in a wide variety of ways. In this case, it is used by process of geometrical shapes. If you are familiar with mathematics, it would be much easier to understand. But in short, when certain shapes are made with the cards, and a random drawing is made to include the element of chance, the magic reveals a long list of possible fates to me. Each fate is read by the combinations of the cards drawn, meaning that replacing just one card with another can change the entire message. So in short: I make the cards do fancy shapes because its supposed to help the spell work, and try to remember what your particular card choice adds up to. The inaccuracy that sometimes occurs comes in when my memory is lacking or I do not make the correct shapes. Either will make the fate reading partially or wholly incorrect."

 

"Now that I've bored you with 'how' it works, to address your question. If my memory is correct and I have made the correct shapes, there is a one hundred percent accuracy rate. Meaning that it will end up coming true no matter what you do. I am not personally skilled enough to guarantee any fate to one-hundred percent, as I've been doing it for only ten years and there are something over thirty thousand different combinations if I just have you choose the cards and do not preform the correct shapes. My usual accuracy rate is more in the low eighties of percentage. In the case that my reading is not entirely correct, there grows a sort of neutral zone. Some of the ponies I've met who practice the Tarot believe that things could swing one way or the other when an incorrect reading is made, meaning that you can influence it. The rest believe that there is only one Fate that you will have and there is nothing you can do to change it, even if I cannot read it properly."

 

"I personally believe that you can influence what your fate is, unless you have a one hundred percent accurate fate reading. Ah, but I've gone and forgot to tell you just -what- I think you reading means. In short, your knowledge of your special skill will become greater and more expansive. You will make good friends that will be with you for quite a long time, somewhere in the next year. You will also get to travel to wonderous places. Though there is a hint that the journey may be harsh, though it will be worth it. As for this..." He held up the card with the jumbled image. "This card is called 'Exponential Chance'. If it had a personality, it would be a prankster. When put into any combination, it complicates the reading in quite a spectacular fashion. Fate is normally a one way road, more or less. But Exponential Chance makes the road go an infinite amount of directions. The only way to keep it in check is to do this."

 

With a flare of magic, the imagine on the card began to change rapidly, shifting from one image to the next, much like a slot machine. Eventually it slowed down. Instead of an image, the card was blank white. Steeleye looked at it for a moment, grimacing. The card was quickly shuffled into the deck, and all of them were stowed in his bags at break-neck pace. "Right then. No more readings for now. Nice to meet all of you by the way. My name is Steeleye Sungazer, I'm in dorm room number one with... Pelate Overcast I believe." It was a bit subtle, but to a careful observer it would be noticable that he had quit the cards without telling Light eye what the 'blank' meant. Steeleye picked up his bowl of steaming noodles, broke the chop sticks, and began to eat.

 

((I really need to simplify that concept, but my brain is shot.))

"Hm... each individual card has several meanings, but it's multiplicative, meaning that eventually you get so many meanings all combined that they form a singe path created by the magic, but with a margin of error dictated by the card dealers ability to interpret the  cards, makes sense. I'd love to get my hands on a deck, see if I could determine the magics present in it... but that'll have to wait for another day. Anyway," Light Eye picked up the bits and returned them to her purse. 

"Let's hear it."

 

After the fortune had been told, Light Eye looked very thoughtful indeed. "Alright then... so my destiny is that I'm going to be the absolute best and inspire everyone? Sounds quite palatable to me." She grinned and shook the fortune teller's hoof. "Well than you for the fortune. It was great fun. And no matter what the fate, you can be sure that I'll own it."

Acoustic Cloud trotted into the school office--guitar on back, saddlebags to the side as he hastily signed in and trotted to the dorm.  

"Ah, Dorm 3", he sighed with relief as he pushed open the door and entered.  

 

Acoustic Cloud was a bit sore from the feather flu he had caught a week ago but he managed to push through and get signed in roughly on time.

As he scanned the room he noted there was no sign of a roommate.  The floors, desk, beds, all bare as they had been cleaned out from their previous owners.

Without another thought, Acoustic Cloud slid his stuff to a bed, and sat heavily on the edge of the bed.  But before he had even gotten comfortable, he heard the clamor from the food court and realized he was missing a meal.  Acoustic grabbed his guitar, for he never left without it, and ran out of the room as quickly as he had entered.

Approaching the court, he snagged a bit of campus food before the line was shut. 

"Oh yeah, this is gonna hit the spot." Acoustic said, smacking his chops.  "Now all I have to do is find a table." he thought as he scanned the packed court for someone to sit down with.

Remmy turned when Pelate told her what happened to his wing. "Oh... I'm... I'm sorry Pelate. But cheer up! I think I already said this, but I don't like when ponies are sad." She then turned back to answer Whirl Wake. "Oh! I'm in dorm 8! That means we're in the same building! And we're the last two dorms... How funny! So how are ya Whirl Wake?"

((OOC: Sorry for taking so long. Throwing up sucks.))

 

Whirl Wake laughed. 'There are more original ice-breakers out there.' He thought to himself, glad that he didn't accidentally blurt that out. "Well, so far I've been doing great! I've met a lot of nice ponies around here. I can't wait to start classes as well!" He looked at his cutie mark and back to Remmy. "I plan on studying medicine. When I graduate I want to become a pharmacist in Canterlot, where I can help ponies in need!" Whirl Wake glanced at the oak leaf on her flank. "How about you? What are interested in?"

Remmy became suddenly excited. Well.... more so than she already was. "Medicine? That's pretty crazy cuz I make remedies! I use different types of leaves for different types of things. My mom got this rash once and told me to get some leaves and all of a sudden I know what leaves I was supposed to get! I think that's when I got my cutie mark... But yea remedies can be used for other things, like calming fevers and stuff." Remmy wasn't usually as bright and bubbly as she had been the last few minutes, and she was finally starting to calm down. She smiled at Whirl Wake. "So yea. Medicine's pretty awesome."

EDIT: ((Oh yea I realized that the computer I've been using shows colors darker than they actually are so I never realized that Remmy's mane was lime fricken green. Anyways I sort of fixed it. So yea))

Whirl Wake wake's eyes widened. "I wouldn't know. I've never met another pony who shared my fancy for medicine!" He continued to grin, noticing how she was looking up and down his body. "Um.." His cheeks turned a faint red as he uncomfortably scratched his neck. 'What is she thinking about me? She probably thinks I'm not fit. Man, why can't I just like sports?'

Her curiosity over the fortune-telling sated, Light Eye sauntered over to the two ponies at the table. "A new friend? Or perhaps a rival? I can assure you miss, I intend to be the top mare at this school and I'll not stand for anyone trying to usurp the position." Light's eyes  danced over Aroma Remedy and she smiled."Never mind, a mare quite so beautiful as you can't possibly be my rival: I'd be missing out on far too much. My name is Light Eye."

Ciel soon grew bored of the fortune telling or magic tricks or whatever the pony was doing. She trotted back to her table only to find that there was already somepony sitting there. Taking a deep breath and doing her best to look confident as well as friendly she approached the mare. She sat down across from her where her food was sitting and gave a little smile.

"Hi there." She cringed inwardly, her voice sounded flat and croaky. But that was only because she had kept silent for the majority of her time there.

Apple Stem groaned as he looked down at his food. "Why must I be so shy?" he asked himself. With a sigh he walked over to the pony doing magic tricks. "What's going on here?" Apple Stem asked hoping that some-pony would answer him. He stood there watching the magic tricks that the pony was doing.

"Oh, um, okay," Psych Ward nodded, getting up.  She shut her book, slowly folding the page and taking out the card to give back to the stallion.  She sat down next to Light and moved the card over the table towards him.  She hadn't decided if this was a real card reader or another one of those showoffs from the fair.

Remmy turned from Whirl Wake at the sound of another's voice.  "Oh um, thank you! My name's Aroma Remedy, but most people call me Remmy. Or Aroma. Anyways it's nice to meet you Light Eye!" She gave the mare a smile but in her head she was confused. What is she alking about? Rival? Is she one of those ponies?

Dust walked into the food court. He noted that Apple Stem and drifted away to him an he smiled. He went and got some food  and looked for a place to sit down. He noticed that another pony was sitting alone inn the grass. He walked over to the stallion. "Hey bud, name's Diamond Dust. Not a lot of seats open is there? Mind if ah sit here?"

Acoustic Cloud saw that most ponies were deep in a conversation or leaving the court area.

"I guess I missed my chance." He thought to him self.  "I guess I'll do what I always do."

Acoustic Cloud made his way to the far end of the court and layed out on a nice patch of grass.  Quickly eating his meal and once more pulling his guitar from its case to be enjoyed and pass the time.

 

A pony approached and introduced himself.  

 

Acoustic wasn't expecting anyone to come over.

"Uh n-no, not at all." He clumsily replied. "Name's Acoustic Cloud."

Apple Stem finished his meal. He then proceeded to his saddle bag next to him. He pulled out his acoustic guitar. He enjoyed his hobby, though he really enjoys what his cutie mark symbolizes as doing what Applejack does. He started strumming his guitar into country music. He started to sing along to his favorite song, he though was singing louder then he thought. He grinned at Acoustic Cloud though faintly he thought he was the only one that played the acoustic guitar. He sighed and kept playing his guitar and singing.

Whirl Wake grinned with his eyebrows raised. He wanted to burst out in laughter. She seemed overdoing it a bit, making him wonder what tension could develop between the two mares. Then he recalled what the fortune teller had said. Could this be connected? Could this be what the strange unicorn had foretold? His smile became fake, and a small bead of sweat ran down his forehead. 'Please don't make this bad, Light Eye...' He thought to himself, keeping his mouth shut.

Remmy couldn't tell if this mare was just being stereotypical and complimenting her, or flirting with her.  Either way a little color creeped it's way onto her face. "Oh, um, thank you! But the same must be said about you!" Remmy grinned at Light. For the first time in a long time, she realzied that she should probably calm down. She took a deep breath in... and then out. "So how are you Light Eye?"

"Oh me? I'm doing fine. Now Whirl Wake here, he's doing excellent. I've known this guy for years believe you me. And trust me when I say that he's got it all. Looks, brains, virility," Light Eye gave a slight eyebrow waggle at this last one. "So I'd definitely lock him down quick before somebody else," she gave a quick glimpse over him. "Snaps him up, you hear? You two kids have fun." Light Eye nudged Whirl slightly closer to Remmy and walked back over to Inks.

Remmy stared blankly as Light walked away. She blushed when she realized how close she was to Whirl Wake and nudged herself away slightly. "Hehe, that was um... something... I get the feeling she's trying to hook me up with you. Well I just met you, and that's kind of crazy, but maybe after a little while of knowing eachother kay?" She gave the stallion a wink and trotted a little ways away to where Pelate and Star were. There was a new mare there that she hadn't seen before. "Oh hi there! I haven't seen you before. My name's Aroma Remedy, but most people seem to like calling me Remmy," she stated as she sat down.

Whirl Wake blushed as Light Eye commented on him. Virility!? He rolled his eyes. 'Yes, I suppose that's completely appropriate.' He thought as the orange mare nudged him. He looked back at Remmy, silent for a few seconds. "Yeah, she's quite the unique one." Whirl said, scratching his neck once again, a sign of discomfort in the stallion.

Ciel jerked her head up in surprise when another mare approached them. She had been staring down at her plate and waiting for the other mare to respond to her greeting while simultaneously thinking that said mare hadn't heard her at all. So she shrugged to herself and turned to the newest mare, who had introduced herself as Aroma Remedy.

 

"Uh yeah, I haven't really been socializing...I'm Ciel." she said, her voice starting out as a mutter and then rising in conversational volume.

Remmy smiled. "Hello Ciel! Everyone here seems at least sort of friendly. It's pretty awesome." She nodded to herself and sort of dazed off and looked away. She ended up looking at Whirl Wake, and quickly looked back to Ciel. "So Ciel, how has the university been for you so far? I've met tons of ponies already and I haven't even been here for half an hour! Hey I think lunch is supposed to end soon..." Remmy added the last part as just an after thought.

"Is that your boyfriend?" She asked, hoping she wasn't being too forward or intruding. It just seemed like something she should say. Well probably something her sister would say, but then again her sister was really nosy--Oh Celestia did I mess up?
