Why does Scootaloo get knocked more than Sweetie Belle for not . . .

Bronies give Scootaloo more grief because being able to fly for a pegasus is given such emphasis to the point that it's as important for any other pony to walk so she comes out a bit handicapped in Equestria. And if you noticed one of the most popular pegasus among bronies is Rainbow Dash and the fact that Scootaloo is a carbon copy of RD apart from the flying bronies feel the need for her to fly just like Rainbow Dash, not just fly but excel at it even. Rarity and Applejack don't get the same kind of popularity as Rainbow Dash as a result Sweetie Belle and Applebloom don't get stressed on their inborn pony racial talents. Furthermore Sweetie Belle is the least favorite of the three so she won't get the same kind of pressure, Applebloom is the second and, Scootaloo is the more popular of the three so she will get that kind of pressure.

I wonder if Baby!Scootaloo ever had "bursts" like Pound Cake did?

And then she just had trouble regaining her "touch" when she got older?

Where is this "bursts" of wing talent idea coming from?

The canon explanation for Pound Cake's flight was that Pegasi get "bursts" as babies, then have to rediscover it when they get older.

Same with Unicorns.

I think flying is more of something pegasi do naturally with no trouble at all. Magic is something unicorns learn and master over time. Plus, Sweetie doesn't seem to care all that much about learning magic or not. Scootaloo understandably makes it a big deal.

Did everyone miss this poignant message about embracing what's special about you and not measuring yourself against others' expectations?

If Sweetie Belle was Twilight's little sister or adopted sister than Sweetie Belle would stress on trying to be as good in magic as Twilight and the fans would rally behind that idea.

Also there are far more Scootaloo fans than Sweetie Belle it's likely their voices will reach you on that issue.

I think it's because, before Twilight Time, we've never seen Sweetie Belle try to do magic, and before then, she'd never been in a position where she either had to or wanted to, so we didn't really know if she could or not. And then in Twilight Time, she proved she was not strong in magic, but by the end of the episode, she could definitely do it. But with Scootaloo, she was shown trying to fly and failing many times, proving that she can't. Also, it seems that flying is a more natural thing for pegasi than magic is for unicorns, which might make it a bigger deal (even though it really shouldn't be).
