Is Rarity deep down a brawler?

She certainly can get physical if she wishes to and her magical ability is underrated.

 

Some mundane observations:

During the pillow fight with Applejack in Look Before You Sleep, she is able to send three pillows across the room at a high speed by FLICKING them with her front hooves.

Pause during The Last Roundup, she actually does jump up to catch Pinkie Pie, falling out of the cart as a result and then proceeds to choke out a cactus needle.

In Magical Mystery Cure, she patters the ENTIRE sky full of clouds. Counting their water content, that's a pretty impressive feat. She does fail miserably at controlling the weather though causing frostbites and sunburns. Wonder what would happen if she used this offensively.

In the Sisterhooves social race, she holds her breath long before the race starts, flips all the grapes into the barrel with her face, ground stomps the bench with the apples on it and is evidently athletic enough in running to be mistaken for Applejack.

Aw, dangit, now I have a headcanon that Rarity got pushed into football by her father.

I have a headcanon that her mom wanted her to excel in magic while her dad wanted her to excel in sports. She was trained in various sports while studying magic and easily qualified for Celestia's Academy of Gifted Unicorns as a normal filly. However, her stay in Canterlot for the entrance exam led to her subsequent run-in with fashion through window-shopping and experience of the Canterlot culture and lifestyle which led to a fascination and she decided to pursue fashion, told her mother she wanted to give up her magical studies and undertake full-time designing. She pulled out of the school at the last minute and returned to Ponyville eagerly. Hence all that with the school play, special talent, rocks, destinies etc.

 

However, to reach a compromise with her father, she agreed to pick up martial arts as a form of sport which may explain her undefined aptitude in certain situations.

That is interesting.  I always thought that Pinkie Pie just landed on her and they both fell out of the cart.  I went to check it out, and it was difficult to pause at the right moment, but I think you are right.

The only thing I'm assuming, is that Rarity went throught rock lust, and gained all that extra power to protect Tom.

This is why I keep saying that Rarity is one of, if not, thee, most rounded character of the main 6.

 

Most everyone only sees one side of her but like a true diamond she is multi-facited.

Wow. I did not expect that, but you have a great point. Maybe she got into some fashion fights. Or she had to fight her way into stores for great deals on shoes or something. I don't know, it's what I think.
