gaming KKR's Mega Man thread

The Mega Man series, counting all series under the Mega Man series, is massive. So, I decided to make a thread to discuss it. Any series. Mega Man, X, Zero, ZX, Legends, Battle Network, Star Force, you name it. Discuss the games, the plot, the future of the series, etc.

Now, some information for those staring at this thread wondering what I'm going on about.

Q: What is Mega Man?

A: Mega Man (Rockman in Japan) is a long-running series, mostly consisting of run-and-gun platformers, though there are also games in the series that are RPGs, even sports. The series has many sub series, with the original Mega Man series being called Mega Man Classic to distinguish it from the whole Mega Man series. Mega Man X takes place some time after Mega Man Classic, Mega Man Zero takes place some time after Mega Man X, etc. etc.

Q: How can I play the Mega Man games?

A: Hunt them down! There have been compilations released, and the originals pop up at garage sales and thrift stores from time to time. A word of warning: Avoid the Mega Man anniversary collection, since its controls are really wonky and the games run poorly and have been heavily altered. X collection's pretty good though

Q: Why are these games so hard?

A: Because you need to get better at them, silly! :P Though, seriously, some of the games do have rather difficult spots here and there, though there's nothing a little practice can't get you past.

I'm gonna have the unpopular opinion here, but I never had problems with the Anniversary collection, don't know why either

As for my favorite Megaman games, the Legends and X(minus X7) series are my favorites, with both Legens games, X1(and MHX), X4, and Command Mission being my favorite games

I wish they made a Command Mission 2

Dude, I loved the crap outta battle network, i was so sad to hear they didn't continue it after 6. :/.

I have all of them besides the 1st one, since its hard to get compared to the others.

Regardless I love them, they're all very challenging. At points atleast, and very fun I find.

As far as the older ones, the original megamans, I played like 3 and thats all so far. Was pretty good, but still.

I want to get megaman X series games, but I've yet to :/.

I have all 3 starforce games to, I love the series to. The story is actually pretty awesome I think, and it reminds me of battle network since its a similar format.

Ah Mega man. A classic in gaming. It has to be one of my favorite series.

Though, I have only played the classics on the anniversary collection. Yeah, the controls on it are awkward, especially the Gamecube version. But if you don't put it on easy mode then the game is almost exactly the same as it's original NES counterpart.

I would have to say that the best of the originals has to be Megaman 3.

I myself prefer playing Mega Man X series, even though I have only played one of the games in that particular series. The one in question being the first.

I swear, you've gotta be the only other person I've talked to online who says they've played Command Mission. It's really an underrated game. I've always wanted to see Steel Massimo get his own game, giving

the original Steel Massimo

some more backstory.

I wasn't really ripping on the Anniversary collection, I was just saying there are better ways to play the games. The Gamecube version's actually on my shelf. :P And you should totally try to pick up at least the rest of the SNES trilogy of the Mega Man X games, or the X collection if you can.

I wish Capcom would pull their heads out of their behinds and get around to making a Mega Man X9, that is to the X series what Mega Man 9 is to the classic series. Oh, well, the fans will have to pick up the slack. :P

I've been trying to get my hands on them, but the only time any of the local Retro gaming stores have them in are when I don't really have any money. Tis a shame really.

And I just remembered thst I have Megaman X 4

Silly me.

The X series looks freaking boss, I've yet to play it myself, but it looks awesome. Its a game i plan on getting once i get some money that I can spare for it.

Capcom doesn't seem to know what to do with megaman anymore and is afraid to ruin it without the creator of megaman around anymore.

I guess thats why they haven't made any megaman games in a while.

Atleast Nintendo's putting Megaman in Super smash bros :P.

Personally I'd prefer to see more Marino myself. She was so underused, she literally was only there for Chapter 4, and like, never showed up again and was a pretty pointless character, which sucks because she was one of my favorites to have on my team

I love the Megaman series in general. I think the only subseries' I haven't played are Battle Network and ZX but they are expensive on Amazon. >_<

Zero is definitely my favorite subseries with Starforce right behind.

The last couple weeks I've been playing the first Megaman. First on easy mode cuz of the Anniversary Collection (my only real way of playing the classic series) then on regular cuz I felt sorta wrong playing it on easy mode.

Then I played it on Normal and got past the first Wily Stage only to find out when I turned it off it restarted me at the first one again and I was like "Fuck that" and haven't touched it. :P

I LOVE Megaman! Especially Megaman X. That is my absolute favorite game of all time for too many reasons for me to list properly. Yes, the games are excrutiatingly hard but it's all a matter of figuring out the patterns of movement in the game which is typically taught to you through the level progression. I really appreciated that about the game and it's such a shame to see other games now don't do that anymore. Games now aren't what they used to be, and no game showcases this better than MMX.

Alright then, they need to do a game for the backstories of all the interesting characters introduced in Mega Man X: Command Mission. :P

The reason I specifically said Steel Massimo is because he's my favorite of the characters introduced in the game, and they gave him just enough plot and character development to leave you interested in him.

But yeah, I'd like to see Mega Man X: Command Mission return, at least in some form. Though we all know if modern Capcom made it, all the interesting characters would be DLC.

I beat Mega Man X2 again today. I realized that if you beat Wire Sponge's stage first then go straight to Wheel Alligator's stage, if you're patient and quick you can get the X Buster upgrade without getting the leg upgrade first if you use Strike Chain to grab the ledge and quickly climb up before you slide off. Pretty nifty.
