I'm working on getting commissions approved, and I wanted to ask everyone - are you interested in perler crafts? For those who don't know, it's when you arrange colored beads into a pattern, then melt them together. Each bead has to be placed by hand, so it's a rather tedious task for the creator.

I wanted to ask for opinions, because having too many things open for commission would make things cluttered, and I won't bother offering if no one's interested.

Possible uses of perler beads:

So yeah, if I could get opinions on whether people actually do want pony perler stuff or not, tell me yay or nay. :) And if you wanna go the extra mile, tell me how much you would spend on a custom perler whatnot (or name your price for the above pieces for example).

Thanks!

I buy a few of them. There are a lot of bead artists at Etsy and it's even becoming big at conventions. I suggest if you do go into this make sure you get the detail as good as possible. That's what sets you apart from others who just throw colors together.

But yes. I do buy them. I love using them as magnets. I have some Magicite from FF6, a laughing Kefka, and I am planning on some Metroid ones later ^_^

I suggest you also check around for pricing. some people charge by square (the square peg thingy that you put the beads on). The larger the item, the more they charge.

Can't figure out the square method, but I think I can try charging by the bead, as long as I include general size so it doesn't confuse the heck out of everyone.

I think I figured out a good method for painterly perler stuff! :) Currently working on a big Luna piece; I'll post it here if it turns out nice. So excited to try it~

Am I the only one who likes purple with my Luna? I feel like blue on blue isn't colorful enough. As promised, here's half a Luna with detail, along with my other stuff:

Inspired by the song "Lullaby for a Princess". I ran out of one color, so I have to order more before continuing.

Anyway, I got good advice and will be opening commissions soon, so thanks for everyone's help! If you want to watch perler Luna's progress, stay tuned to my art thread here. :)

Honestly, your detail work is AMAZING.

As for the pricing issue, instead of price per bead, why not consider the size of the project and the time it takes to make it? That may help out ^_^

Aw, thanks! Glad to hear it! I can't seem to find people who will comment on or critique my perler stuff, so it's hard to tell how I'm doing. ^^; Can't wait to finish so I can pass it around and get more thoughts.

Mm, perler is hard to put a price on since the edges can vary and it's not restricted to a rectangular shape. I feel like Archimedes and Hiero's crown...Maybe I should just dunk the perler in water and measure by volume displacement.

Anyway, I'm just calculating everything generally at this point since it's hard to figure it all out. Hopefully will learn things along the way and work on it as I go. :) Thanks for all your help!

Yeah, this definitely sounds interesting. Are all those your work? They look great. :P

So, are you asking us if we'd request/buy perler stuff? Because I'm definitely considering it.

Yay more opinions! Only the stuff in the last picture I posted are mine:

Though I have made a creeper clock I've yet to take pictures of. Wasn't sure how relevant it'd be.

Yay more yays! Yup, I'm asking if you'd request/buy perler stuff if a good opportunity arose. I personally rarely buy things at artist alleys and such, so it's always hard for me to understand what everyone else likes. ^^; Though, I'm starting to appreciate perler's uses now. I'm already planning on making myself a clock using my ponysona's cutie mark. Hard to do that with just a piece of paper. :D

That Luna looks amazing! Continue on, I really like it :D

After you're done with the Luna, you should try a Celestia. Then the whole Lullaby for a Princess thing would be completed... :3

Thanks! I do love Celestia's design~ Hmmm, getting some good ideas~
