Changelings and food: What are teeth for?

So. First of, this is my first post, outside of my introduction. So it may be under welming or over welming.

 

So. Onto my topic.

 

This idea spawned from my own oc, rouge. The basis of his story is he ran away from the hive, and now doesn't feed of love, rather regular food. After I made him, I got thinking, "Well, what about meats?" I decided to have them able to eat meats by my standards, just he didn't, so he could fit in. Then I realized that they have those massive incisors.

 

I remembered that they're found in omnivores and carnivores, and are used for tearing flesh. So I though, "Well, could they have once been hunters? Could they have found a way to feed of love, and found that easier?" This is only an idea of course, but I'd like to hear others opinions.

The fangs don't appear so serve them for consuming love. My guess.. They are carnivores for both personal pleasure and to provide filler for the tummy. Hate to get all scientific regarding a creature that eats love, but I think an analogy to describe what I'm thinking is, imagine eating nothing but water and vitamin supplements. You would have all your nutrients but you're gonna be starving none the less.

I remember thinking about this once, actually. If I could just take a single pill every day, would I? I decided no, I like the novelty of eating. So I see why they wood, added your reason, which I just heard for the first time.

And I don't think science has a firm place there. It's a world with talking horses, dragons, and Phoenixes.

 

And if anyone doesn't get what he means by you'd still be starving, basically your stomach would have nothing to do, like when your starving, and do its thing.

I'm no scientist. But I think the changelings have fangs/teeth probably for self defense. Or maybe even oral communication ("Oral" meaning: by using the mouth). It'd be difficult to pronounce the "S" or "T" without teeth.

Probably defense. As they don't have claws, being equine in body type, some fangs would certainly help for both scaring off enemies, as well as injuring them when they attack.

From a writers perspective they were made like that to make them look bad and evil.

 

Now from a literal perspective, probably so they could pronounce words and for self-defense.

My guess is that their fangs are used as weapons. It is meant, by the show producers to make them look more aggressive, maybe comparing the herbivore ponies to the "carnivore looking" changelings. So they could also be used as intimidation tools.

Perhaps they still are carnivore, using their massive fangs to cut through their defenseless preys. I like to think that their "feeding on love" only makes them stronger magic-wise instead of nourished, so they must get their real food from elsewhere.

Self defense seems to be the most logical.

 

However, one would argue that the sharp teeth is a natural growth towards Changelings.

 

As for food, if Chrysalis fed off of love, I'm assuming the others would feed off of other emotions.

Well, there was that scene when she told the drones to feed, but didn't specify what. And somehow I don't think there was any love out there.

Well, i think its for self defense personally, it makes the most sense, because i mean otherwise all they have is their horn and hooves, i guess it makes them more vicious.

Since they are part insect; I think it might be where they contain their venom or whatever the heck that green stuff that traps and immobilizes  their prey.

I guess the fangs eject out venom that can paralyze their prey, so they can trap them in green cocoons. Maybe, they also use their fangs to defend against ongoing attackers besides using venom.
