I don't know if there are different levels of the torsion but it sounds like the worst outcome of the the phenomenon I've always thought of when it's felt as if a ball is "twisted".

 

No idea what causes it, its a sharp pain for a moment and then some discomfort and things seem to calm down. It's happened a few times in my life and I've always described it as "feeling as if a ball was twisted".

 

Sounds similar. I'll pay more attention if it happens again.

 

Sorry to hear you've gone through that, at least you got quick treatment and hopefully no permanent damage.

What happens is the testicle twists, causing the blood flow to be cut off. If it's not treated within 6 hours, there's a good chance you'll lose it.
