Mutemutt 773 August 29, 2013 Share August 29, 2013 I tend to do quite a bit of critiquing of subjects that catch my interest, I just don't always share them. I guess there's something fun about evaluating and comparing works and performances, revealing all their faults and triumphs, and, ultimately, still enjoying (or disliking ) the game for what it is. ReverseFaller 2,483 August 29, 2013 Share August 29, 2013 I usually just try to enjoy whatever it is I'm doing. I may pick it apart a little bit, but never enough to the point where I'll stop enjoying it. I'm not terribly critical. I'd say on a scale of 1 to 5 I'd be a 2.5. ASocialyAwkwardPony 299 August 29, 2013 Share August 29, 2013 Both! I am extremely critical when it comes to music, games and films, yet I enjoy a lot of things for how bad I think they are in a entirely different way than what is intended, all in all making them good for me. I love slasher films not because I actually think they are scary or clever, but because they are fun to watch and sometimes you just want to see what creative ways they can kill a douchebag or how insane the premise can be (Santa's Slay is a great example, Santa Claus turns out to be the son of Satan and decides to kill people instead of giving them presents) I am more critical on music and games than I am with films though. Chain Combo 135 August 29, 2013 Share August 29, 2013 My ability to tolerate things is amazing I like pretty much anything. I'm never really all that critical to anything, If don't like it I stop doing/watching/reading/whatever it. When I am critical I usual get over it after coming to a realization. Jack Spades 162 August 29, 2013 Share August 29, 2013 my friend foxarasta is the most critical guy ever. He watches movies not for the stories, but to see the different camera angles, transitions, and a whole bunch of other stuff. It gets on my nerves, but it shows his determination on how much he wants to be a movie director. Half insane! Half jokester! All brony! Salacberry 90 August 30, 2013 Share August 30, 2013 (edited) I'm not particularly critical towards other people, I prefer looking at the positives. But as for myself.. I'm a ruthless critic, and I tend to find faults in a lot of things I do, particularly drawing. I think it's that way for lots of people though. It's easy to set unreasonably high standards for yourself, and I guess at the end of the day you just have to remember that not everyone is perfect, yourself included. Unipeg 17 September 2, 2013 Share September 2, 2013 I usually keep my mouth shut as I'm not really found of causing "drama" to put lightly. But if I am critical: Of people it depends. I won't go out of my way to rip into people, but if they ask for my opinion I'll give it to them. How harsh it is once again it depends. Some people need the honest, blunt , truth especially if they're deluded, but I'll try not to be rude or mean about it. On games/movies I guess so.. TheSupremeLeaderOfChaos 1,206 September 2, 2013 Share September 2, 2013 I can be one of the most critical or one of the most understanding people you know. When I'm tired, you better not mess anything up or I will be so cynical, it'd be like you're being glared at by Professor Snape. But most of the time, I can totally understand when people mess up, after all, we're all only human. Signature made by- Kyoshi Make sense? Shiki 5,855 September 2, 2013 Share September 2, 2013 I rip the shit out of things in my head, but only verbalise it if some one is asking for critique. I rarely focus on the positive on things, because it's too difficult to please me. If I bother commenting on something, though, it usually means I have a good opinion about the thing in question. Mand'alor Dash 2,224 September 2, 2013 Share September 2, 2013 I tend to be forgiving and open-minded. It's not the hardest thing in the world to get on my good side, but I can sometimes be a bit of a jerk if something pisses me off. Amoral cynic with a bitchin' vocabulary. myzz7 73 September 2, 2013 Share September 2, 2013 I tend to be harsh on people wasting my time. I like to cut to the point with people and get things done and over with. I can be a bit crass about it, and don't have much patience for people screwing things up around me. As far as things like tastes in media, music, movies, and so on--I'm pretty lax. I don't pursue things I know I don't like so I don't have any conflicts there. I can be more critical in my reading since I am a writer myself, and don't like much of the modern readings compared to the older styles of books I've read before. GhostPony750 959 September 2, 2013 Share September 2, 2013 Well, I always try to enjoy something, I try to find the positive in everythig, unless it's seriously boring, then I hate. If you are a critic and you just criticize everything single things, you won't be a good critic, even worst if you have favoritism. So well, I try to enjoy, I kow that most of the people love to hate for no reasons, but I don't.
immortalpegasus 6 September 3, 2013 Share September 3, 2013 I'm a little bit of both. On one hand, I'm open to new things and like things alot of people won't a chance. But I'm also super critical, even to things I really like. I'll always be pointing out the things that are wrong with something, especially if it's a book to movie adaptation or something like that. I'm an even worse critic to myself than I am to other things. I beat myself up for mistakes, and if I don't do it perfectly, I don't consider it a full success. Shanks 10,816 September 3, 2013 Share September 3, 2013 It depends if I like something I may have a nitpicky thing or two I don't like about it but probably won't be too overly critical. But if I think something sucks than I am not afraid to say it. Rarity Get's Cockroaches
TheMangoPony 146 September 3, 2013 Share September 3, 2013 (edited) I'm certainly not a critical person when it comes to most things. I always try to find the silver lining. (raining at a picnic? "Yay, free shower!") I often am able to find joy in some crazy places, and if something is less than perfect, it doesn't bother me. I'm usually pretty chill. However, that being said... Like many other people have posted here, I am also extremely critical of myself. Not all the time. It seems to come out the most if I am recording any music... which is the reason I haaaate recording music, and much prefer playing for people live. That way, if you make a mistake, you deal with it and carry on, maybe make it part of the song(plus you can really jam when it's live, which often leads to some cool unplanned stuff). If I am recording, the tiniest error and I need to start over, and seems like that little mistake is all I hear when playing it back. ("Ok... take 372! Here we go!") Nilkad_Naqadah 144 September 3, 2013 Share September 3, 2013 Personally, I'm very critical of things. Even if I like something, I'm very quick to point out its flaws as well as what I like about it, especially in regards to video games. The reason for this being that if nobody points out the flaws in a product, it can't be expected to improve. The way I see it, I can either ignore the flaws in a product I love, or I can point them out and hopefully the next thing made by that person will be even better. Nilkad_Naqadah, trekking through the barren wastes of the internet, searching for... I dunno, something less barren and wastelike, maybe? Cwanky 17,600 September 3, 2013 Share September 3, 2013 I am pretty much down the middle, though I lean towards being more critical than not. If I disagree with something, whether its a comment, or a show or editorial, I will proceed to rip it apart and I can't tolerate the trash posts that infest Youtube and forums like Yahoo. Sorry. That said I am critical myself of many of the critiques and parody critiques like "How it should have ended." I understand that a lot of times lackluster and horrible material is produced as is the case with The Simpsons, Family Guy, Spongebob and yes MLP:FiM and The Nolan Batman films. But I also recognize that in a lot of these media people are under serious stress, time constraints, pressure from employers like Hasbro and other factors that can affect the quality of thing. Moreover realize that much of this stuff is FICTION, and its often meant to be a romanticization, not some Nazi realist style writing and directing, and no I'm not talking about the blatant Hollywood stereotype trash like Transformers and your generic slash horror films necessarily. There's often meant to be a stretch of the truth, the fact that the plot may be unlikely and yes unrealistic at times is part of what makes a good story, also with the pressure to edit and such. They are called tall tales and legends for a reason. Also we can't always superimpose our logic and assume that its the most reasonable logic to apply, sometimes it may be sometimes logic is thrown out the window entirely. Finally these people are human, just like you and the critics are so cut them some slack. Even Shakespeare can't write a masterpiece play that would please most everyone without some major critiques. Well with that said, looks like I'm done with my rant about being critical to those who are critical.
MyLittleBrony 47 September 3, 2013 Share September 3, 2013 I'm more critical than not. Sometimes I'm too critical with people I'm familiar with. Much more so than strangers. How I try to balance this out is by giving praise and appreciation when somebody does something right. If someone does something new, or different from what I can do, then I am likely to tell others about it, and let the person who did it know that I think what they did is cool. If I see someone doing a task in a half-assed way, though, I'm also going to speak up about it. Tell me how a person judges his or her self-esteem, and I will tell you how that person operates at work, in love, in sex, in parenting, in every important aspect of existence - and how high he or she is likely to rise. The reputation you have with yourself - your self-esteem - is the single most important factor for a fulfilling life. ~Nathaniel Branden
