So, here's the first RP I DM'ed on these forums, i'm pretty happy with how it went, and after getting much more RP experience under my belt, I figure I may as well give this another shot...

Also, i'm pretty sure I started this RP initially before Season 3 aired...

 

The Amulet of the Eventide.

 

Very few ponies have heard the legend of the Amulet of the Eventide, and even fewer ponies know of its location. It has been locked away for hundreds of years by Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. Why you ask? The Amulet has the potential to increase the magical ability of the user exponentially, to the point where they become too powerful and too corrupt for their own good.

The last known encounter of the amulet before it was locked away was by the Alicorn who created it, as he rampaged uncontrollably through Equestria, unchallenged and unburdened by mortal thoughts. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna battled for hours to stop this chaotic rampage before it could spread any further. Eventually defeating the Alicorn, they locked the Amulet away far away from Equestria, in the icy heart of the tower of the Crystal Moon.  

In recent times however, there has been a dark whisper, rumours involving a plot to steal the Amulet and use its power to overthrow Canterlot. The source of these rumours is yet unknown, but Princess Luna has caught word and has sent her personal guards to retrieve the Amulet and bring it to Canterlot, so she can guarantee the safety of her subjects.

 

It was not long before Princess Luna received word of her guards’ success in obtaining the amulet, however that was weeks ago and they have still not returned. This in mind, she has hired one of the most expensive and fearless adventurers in Equestria - Ardent Prayer - to find out what has happened to her guards and retrieve the Amulet, with the promise of a high standing stature within Canterlot and riches beyond imagining upon a successful return.

 

This is where you come in.

Realising just how dangerous this journey will prove to be, Ardent Prayer has left fliers around Ponyville and Canterlot, and even on the inside of trains leading to the other cities. Wherever you look, you will be within eye shot of a recruitment poster:

 

Attention!

Adventurers, Mercenaries and skilled Survivalists wanted! 

 

You are being called upon to embark upon an important expedition to retrieve something of great value. For the safety of the expedition and its crew, details will not be revealed here of the item in question, or of its importance. 

You are asked only to attend the meeting if you are willing to venture into lesser known lands across Equestria.

 

The danger of this journey is not to be underestimated, there is no guarantee you will make it back alive, and as such you should only consider joining up for this if you feel you are among the best Equestria has to offer us. Applicants should attend one of the meetings at the "Mane and tale Inn"  in Canterlot. Meetings being held every night at 18:00 until the expedition starts.

 

Additional information about the RP:

 

 

Rules:

 

 

1) No Alicorns and no non-pony OCs – there may be exceptions for non-pony OC's if I have RP'ed with you before, and I know your characters.

 

2) This is an adventure roleplay, and should be treated as such.

Romances will be allowed, as long as your attention does not stray too far from the main story for too long - if several posts go by and you've been busily staring into your new lover's eyes for the entirety of your involvement, it's not going to end well.

Absolutely no NSFW content allowed.

 

3) No godmodding, if you attempt to control anyone elses character without their express consent, your character will be killed and you will be removed from the RP.

 

4) Good spelling and grammar is a must, if your posts are constantly unreadable then you will be warned. You will have 3 warnings before your character is killed and you are removed from the RP. 

Also, please try and keep swearing to a minimum. I don't mind here and there, but if your posts are laden with curses, it's not pleasant to read.

 

5) No previous RP references allowed anywhere at any time. This is an entirely separate adventure from any others your character may have taken part in, and relationships with other characters should be left behind. (I just prefer it that way) 

 

6) I will have the final say on anything that is disputed in the RP, however things may be discussed in the OoC. I will also listen to any suggestions you may have for the improvisation of the RP and your experience.

 

7) Try and be as active as possible - in order to keep things running smoothly and fluently, you will be expected to post at least once per day. If this is not possible, please let me know and i'll give you some leeway from the banhammer. 

 

8) Read every post. Even if it is irrelevant to your character, you may miss out on important information otherwise.

 

9) A brilliant idea from PinkieDaShy, I would like a picture of something PinkiePie related in a spoiler tag in your application, to make sure you've read all the rules. 

 

10) No guns. No exceptions. Any advanced weapons or armour of any type will not be allowed in the RP. We are only simple ponies, after all.

 

 

The combat

 

 

What combat means and how it works: 

Basically, most of the time when we encounter something that doesn't go out of its way to look welcoming, we'll be more than likely to kick his ass. Or die trying. 

In other words, this could be wildlife defending its territory, or other ponies who simply want us to die. 

Occasionally there will be the option to sneak past them, but most of the time the only way will be through them. 

 

How it works: 

What we have is a simple yet complicated way of organising the results of a fight - this will be managed entirely on the DM's part, including character manipulation and combat scoring. 

Basically, i'm going to roll the dice and i'll post what happens.

(Damage values are only taken into account during larger fights - such as random boss battle encounters. A coin flip will decide which of the two values is used, heads being higher.)

 

The dice rolls.

1 - Glancing hit. Your attack is practically ineffective. Nothing more happens. (0)

2-3 - Light hit. Your attack injures the target slightly, but incurs no major injuries. (10-25)

4-5 Medium hit. Your attack injures the target visibly, causing a noticeable negative effect. Flip (25-40)

6 - Heavy/Critical hit. Your attack injures the target severely, potentially debilitating it in some way. Flip (50-75)

 

The coin flips. (Flip)

Heads be good, tails be bad. 

There's no way I can account for all the possible outcomes, so i'll range them. Basically, if you get a tails, it could be something from breaking your attacking weapon, to causing the target to enrage and focus his attacks on you. 

A head would be something from either crippling the target to open up extra hits for others, or killing it outright in a lucky swing. 

 

(There will be a deeper system involving Dice rolls after the coin flips, but you don't need to worry about those - they'll be used by myself only)

The reason this combat system is in place, is to create a diverse and fluid battle environment where any outcome is possible at any time, and no one character has an unfair advantage, aside from luck.

 

 

Advanced combat and encounters

 

Here's a list for those of you who are interested in how random encounters play out, and what creatures we may be facing at any given time.

*Will be replaced by the Yeti in snowy areas

 

"Boss" rank hostiles.

1 - Manticore

2 - Cockatrice

3 - Wyvern (Possibly multiple?)

4 - Chimera

5 - Minotaur

6 - Hydra

 

Extra: Boss Abilities/Health

Manticore - 1000

Poison (Starts off slowly, but quickly becomes toxic to the victim. Incapacitating non-lethal)

Earthquake (Knocks down anypony directly next to the origin of impact, shaking ponies further out) 

Rage *signified by a roar* (Ignores the next hit against it, causing no damage unless the hit is fatal)

Tough hide - Passive (Reduces all damage by 1/2

 

Cockatrice - 750

The Stare (Begins turning the victim to stone - unless the cockatrice is injured while performing. Victim will be petrified until the creature is killed)

Constrict (Incapacitates a pony by constricting them with its tail)

Slither (Vanishes into the nearby scenery to re-emerge shortly with +100 health)

Agility - Passive (Moves quickly, 50/50 chance of avoiding a hit)

 

Wyvern (Group x 3) - 500 each

Roar (Stuns up to 2 nearby ponies momentarily)

Fire Breath (Sends a jet of flame at a nearby pony) 

Flight (Can avoid ground-based and physical attacks, returning to strike shortly after) 

Fireproof - Passive (Immune to all fire damage of any type)

 

Chimera - 2000

Fire Breath (Sends a jet of flame at a nearby pony) 

Poison (Starts off slowly, but quickly becomes toxic to the victim. Incapacitating non-lethal)

Charge (Rams into the closest pony with its goat-head, launching them into the air)

Hybrid creature - Passive (Each of the 4 heads has 500 health - further damage to "dead" heads will not be effective in reducing the overall health of the beast)

 

Minotaur - 1500

Earthquake (Knocks down anypony directly next to the origin of impact, shaking ponies further out)

Rage *signified by a roar* (Ignores the next hit against it, causing no damage unless the hit is fatal)

Throw (Launches the nearest pony into his nearest friend)

Brute force - Passive (Stronger than average hits - a successful strike has a high chance to cause a lasting injury)

 

Hydra - 500/head x9

Earthquake (Knocks down anypony directly next to the origin of impact, shaking ponies further out)

Fire Breath (Sends a jet of flame at a nearby pony) 

Chomp (Takes a bite at its victim, potentially swallowing it whole - Note: The Hydra is a bloody large creature, you'll have to fight from the inside if this happens)

Heads - Passive (We all know how this works guys - starts with 3 heads, cut one off and 2 more grow etc)

 

 

 

Weapons

 

 

Weapons mean nothing - in theory.

But I would like you to read through this regardless. 

You may choose one ranged weapon, and one melee weapon of your choice - so long as it remains within the "medieval" criteria. (Bows, crossbows, swords, knives etc) 

I'll keep it brief, basically if you have a club, don't start cutting things with it. 

All of our characters will be given a simple knife in the meeting as "insurance" (on the basis of, if you die, it's your own fault - we gave you a knife dammit!) 

Also, if you choose to have throwing weapons, try and keep them reasonable - just...don't go spamming a million throwing knives without reusing some, you dig?

 

 

Character Death

 

 

While characters are susceptible to being killed, we wont be slaughtering you like lambs. In fact you'll be lucky to see any of you dead. However - killable offenses are listed in the rules, and explained in more detail here. 

 

Warnings: - Each character will receive 3 warning, before they are killed. These warning stack, and can come from multiple listed sources. You will not accumulate individual warnings for different offenses of the rules. 

Being generally stupid: Basically that. If you want to mess around and not take the RP "seriously" you will be killed. We're here to have fun of course, but we still want to progress with the story. 

Godmodding: Simple enough here, if you're trying to control other players characters or control the events that happen in the story (making things up, mainly) then we will be forced to do the same to a much higher level that will often involve some over gruesome death for your character. Because rules.

 

 

"Health"

 

Our ponies do not have health values as such, so there is no need for anyone to worry about their current health or wellbeing. We are trusting you all to react in a way that you see fit in standing with the situation your character is in. Example, if you've been stabbed in the leg, make it seem like it. No running around like it's nothing - you will need to be limping around for a while until you are eventually healed.

 

As for hostiles - dice rolls will be assigned damage values (for our attacks against them) and their health will be reduced as such. (This is simply to make the fights easier to be resolved. We dont want to be fighting something for 3 RL days. The health system we put in place will help us kill the enemies quickly and move on.)

 

 

Complaints:

 

If you have any complaints at all (or feedback) about the RP, I cannot stress enough how much it would mean to hear your opinions. Are we moving too fast? Is it too slow? Do you not understand something that has just happened? Drop a note in the OoC or in a PM, and i'll do my best to improve the experience for you.

I remember your last OC used something not dissimilar to a meteor shower at one point...something like that is going to be a drain on one's own energy's, right?

Since you're using Medieval Era weapons would it be alright if I used some medical treatises as reference for Silver Heart's medical skills or would you just prefer me to use "white magic" instead of tools and potions?

He hates Changlings, he will go into a trance state if he see's one and start attacking it without thinking.
He is good with his blade, however, only when he is holding it with his magic. If he uses his blade using his hooves, then... it won't turn out good.
He hates it when his allies are hurt or killed, however he doesn't lose his mind when this happens, sure he gets mad but he still has some sense instead of charging at the one who hurt/killed his ally.

- Spellbound looks kinda like a mare, and should another pony see him without knowing he is a stallion, they would instantly assume he is a mare.

- Spellbound will avoid prolonged eye contact, so if you stare him in the eyes, expect him to shy away.

- Spellbound isn't a very strong pony, and heavily relies on his magic to protect him. He is better suited as a support. So don't throw him on the front lines

I have to ask you all to take a look at the combat system again.

It's a refined and much clearer set-up than the previous RP had, and I would very much like to use it. 

The idea is to have an MMO/RPG style environment, where you're walking down the street and then suddenly BAM a dragon. Wut? 

 

However, if there is an overwhelming amount of votes against using the combat system in place, we will switch to the honour system of combat, leaving you to your own devices without OP'ing your characters. 

 

If I could divert your attention here for a moment, it would be appreciate if you would read through a couple of posts before making a judgement on whether you would like to keep this combat system or not. 

As you can see, you will still be very much in control of your own characters, but the outcome of their actions will be posted by myself.

Eh, whichever will do. I'm not picky

 

But if I can suggest one thing, is to give each character a +1 point in the dice roll for certain types of action. Like, a defensive character would have all damage dice done to them reduced by one, offensive characters would have their damage dice action increased by one, and particularly agile characters (like maybe pegasi) would always attack first and more likely to avoid punches directed at them. Of course a character can only have one of these bonus traits for balancing purposes, but bosses might have two or three. Conflicting bonuses would neutralize each other.

Just make sure that it wouldn't make it overly difficult for you to manage the combat.

Okay, I fixed it. Thanks largely to my brief experience with programming. Rather fascinating coding bug, that. Anyway, first page should be back to normal now.

While I'm on the subject of how fascinating a coding bug that was, I might as well point out that technically the entire thread was my spoiler. At least, that's how the code came out. Not really sure how the code got that way to begin with, but I'm sure it can be traced back to me not paying attention to some minor error.

coding bug

 

That actually might have been my fault. I was originally typing my post from my phone so I quoted you to steal the spoiler so I wouldn't have to look it up and type it myself. Then I deleted everything else from the quote besides the spoiler, realized I didn't want to risk the browser reloading in my phone so I...well to make a long story short I did a lot of stuff (copying and pasting, saving it in other apps, and finally emailing it to my laptop...where I posted it. So I might have had something to do with that.
