Weightlifting?

Does anyone on here weightlift? Whether it be a hobby or compete.. I haven't met any yet and feel kind of like an idiot anytime I bring it up.

I tend to enjoy Olympic weights and intense type workouts to really get the heart pumping!

So does anyone else have similar interests? :)

I don't lift weights as in, benchpress or anything. I do, however, go on regular runs carrying a pre-set load of stuff. Usually gravel or rocks. I'll go for around 6 kilometres per run, carrying a weight of around 15~25 kilos. I can't really carry more, because I don't really have a backpack that's meant to carry that kind of weight... (And it freaking KILLS my neck.)

Might get myself a bergen sometime.

I do other stuff like conditioning workouts now and then, to prepare myself for the military. But other than that, I'm really lazy. :P

That sounds a great idea to keep in shape, I may well try that at some point, maybe during my marathon training.

Military huh? My brother is due to go out soon for military duty, he loves it!

I started when I was about 12-was getting crap at school and thought it would help. I'm 43 now, still pounding. I have my own gear, built up over years of yard sales and just fabricating what I need.

I never really got into competition, as it doesn't interest me. I just try to do a little better than I did last time, is all.

Yeah, been conditioning myself for the past half year. Lost a good +15 kilos. I'm pretty proud o' myself. :D

Going into the National Guard so they'll pay for my college after I do BCT. Once I'm in college, I'll do an ROTC, so I can earn my officer's education and get my degree at the same time. Doing a few Engineer courses, I figured it'd make me more appealing to the guys in EOD. Afterwards I'll go straight in and do my specializations later.

12, wow that's a young age to get into it. I didn't start until 4 years ago when I was 18 but its been just recently that I've started taking it all a lot more seriously.

I had the same problems getting picked on at school but its so surprising how much progress you can make if you just put dedication and effort in, no matter what your size at first! It's awesome.

I don't lift weights, but I do use resistance bands, of a certain company.  I like the no need to switch weights, no sound of weights banging together, that bugs me, no idea why.  Also the way the have the same clip that mountain climbers use you can quickly add or switch resistance.  Though looking at me it looks like I don't exercise at all.  I guess since I don't believe in doing it till I can't move or till a muscle hurts/burns.  I've noticed some slight improvements though.

Oh yeah, I definitely weightlift as regularly as I can.  Great exercise for the body, plus it's also a good way to wind down and get rid of stress; been doing it on a regular basis ever since my time on my high school's football team, although now I obviously don't lift quite as intensely as I did then.

I have to lift to keep the muscle built up in my shoulders. I had a throwing accident in high school track that tore my tendon out of place in my shoulder and popped it over the joint. So if I don't keep it in good shaped it could happen again, and it was pretty painful so I'd rather not.

When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move,
your job is to plant yourself like a tree next to the river of truth, and tell the whole world
"No, you move."

That sounds painful! But it's good to hear that you're back in the swing of things.. The worst thing that can happen is someone loosing motivation because of a horrible accident like that.

I lifted for about two months this summer, then I kinda got bored of it. I also didn't really like the body type that I was being pushed to obtain. I was being pushed to get that chiseled body where I could dead lift six hundred and fifty pounds. The body type I'm going for is the kind where you can move your weight, and maybe a little extra, quickly and efficiently. So now I mostly do body weight routines and climbing.

I started weightlifting when I was 11 not sure, but stopped for a while. Just the regular weightlifting as well as some time on the bench. It was mostly just me derping around with weights. But I liked it at the time, I lifted from time and time until today but never really took it seriously. It was mostly just for fun, so I would usually not lift too much. Now I have started to lift more, during the summers I lift stuff all the time and do pull ups and push ups wherever I can. Just to warm up and be prepared for everything, it's good to be prepared.

I have started to use the bench more now, now I lift for 30 min up to an hour a day. I guess it's good to decide that you will spend an hour a day lifting.

I don't lift much, but hey at least I can say that I lift when someone says: "Bro, do you even lift?".

Turns into a big part of your life doesn't it? And I agree, it's one of the best means of keeping stress off your chest for sure!

I have had some cases where I've felt unmotivated but I've been taught that you have to fight through that stage.

It's what you want, not what others do that matters man. Keep at it!

Love rock climbing myself when I get the chance to do it but unfortunately I don't get much practice anymore.

I used to make quite the regular habit of it, but after my arm was broken - resulting in surgery where a long metal plate was permanently bolted onto my humerus bone - you can imagine that my enthusiasm died down somewhat.

Nowadays I can rarely find the time to exercise anyway, but I do respect people who have the patience and will to regularly keep themselves fit.

Oh, and my broken arm was not a direct result of weightlifting - instead it was indirectly caused by the stupid overconfidence it gave me. I challenged someone to an arm wrestle and...SNAP. It was quite the life lesson. :P

Some friends tried to get me to lift, but when I struggled to lift just the bar with no weights, I decided it wasn't worth it. My friends were very encouraging, but it felt as if everyone else in the gym was watching and judging me. I'm pretty sure I heard some girls laughing at me too so that kind of killed it.

In space, no one can hear you squee!

I suppose I should think myself lucky that I haven't sustained an injury like this yet.. It worries me with all the injuries I hear about..

Wow.. Nothing I hate more than people that are judgemental towards people that are making the effort to make a change.. This is why half of people are so unmotivated to workout these days.. Because of judgemental idiots :(

Because I live in the city, there aren't very many rocky places for me to climb. However, there is an overabundance of parking garages, and I shall certainly keep on climbing them.

I used to have to do weight training every day when I was still on my varsity football team, but those days are over now (been two years... where does the time go). That, along with plenty of jogging and agility drills. But these days, I am content on being a bum who prefers to watch anime all day.
