I like going around causing random mayhem and destruction using the cheat codes but that's as far as my enjoyment goes. I've never beat any of the GTA stories, ever. I'm not even sure if I even started them. My family and I would just take turns causing trouble until we got "wasted" or arrested; that was pretty fun.

That said, I'm not really interested in GTA 5. I'm sure causing mayhem and destruction is still as fun as ever but it's not quite what I'm looking for anymore.

Personally, I think that GTA is not so much a game as it is a high-budget stress ball, with way more resources poured into it than can really be justified given the quality of the actual gameplay and how people generally play. For example, GTA IV had one of the largest, most well-realized and organic cities ever crafted in the entire interactive medium. In this city you could... Either follow a woefully unremarkable story campaign, the only memorable aspect of which was being forced to go bowling with your fat cousin, or just run around and screw off. Neither option saved you from the poor controls and massive amounts of glitches. I'd love to see what the GTA world could do in the hands of people who understand certain basic concepts of game design, but as the series stands it's more an interesting technological and economic achievement than anything I feel inclined to spend any extended time with.

It can be fun to do a little mindless destruction and mayhem but honestly it all just stats to feel like the same game and for that reason loses quite a bit of its appeal to me. What is a lot more fun to me these days are games where that isn't the main focus but there are certain instances where you can do something like that. A good example is the Assassins Creed series where if you poison a guard and throw money near them civilians will grab the money only to be mowed down by the poisoned guard who has lost all control of himself. The game dosen't penalize you because technically you didn't kill the civilians and you get to watch people rush to grab cash only to meet their certain doom.

To be honest, I skipped that whole PS2 era of GTA. I loved the first top down game, and I loved GTA London, but like I said, I completely ignored the PS2/PSP games.
I bought GTA IV a while ago, and only recently got obsessed with it, which led me to preorder V :3

So far, V looks great. Rockstar excel at artistic design and general open world elements, but GTA has always suffered from terrible stories. Hopefully, V has a decent story too, like Red Dead and LA Noire did.

Oh yeah! I loved San Andreas and 4.

Causing mayhem with the cheats is really fun.

As for the story,i didn't really focus much on the story. :comeatus:

I have played every single GTA game except for the very first one ,it's expansion and one on the Gameboy Advance I think. I'm a really big fan of the series. I have GTA V preordered and I can't wait for tomorrow to get my hands on it :D. I think the series has great gameplay ,interesting stories and a very funny sense of humor :D. A lot of people dislike GTA 4 ,I find, and while it isn't my favorite GTA either (the controls are way too clunky and the social aspect can be a bit too much sometimes and it can be repetitive from the halfway point of the game ) I really enjoyed it's story and I think it deserves to be remembered as fondly as the PS2 era games.

Well, I don't have a particular fondness for the series but I do remember liking playing GTA4 when I had it as well as the little bit of San Andreas. The gameplay is pretty neat and you get to explore quite a few places. GTA5 looks extremely promising as well so I'm quite excited about my pre-ordered copy tmo. One of my workmates even took a week off from work just to play the game xDDDDD

I wouldn't say I'm a huge GTA fan, but it's definitely pretty fun. I've spent a good amount of time playing GTA 4, and I've always admired how well made it is, as well as all of the things you can do in it. Once I rake up the money for it, I plan on getting GTA 5. Judging from the trailer, it looks like it's going to be great.

They are fun, but there are parts that are too annoying. I played San Andreas and IV and I hate the parts where you have to answer the phone and do stuff with your friends and associates. Like in IV you have to take your cousin, and your gf, and your friend out to dinner or whatever. These side missions serve no purpose for the plot and they aren't fun. It would be okay if it were optional, but you have to keep the people happy, which has no affect on the plot, as far as I could tell. There is a point where the game gets too realistic.

This is my new signature.

You know, there are always three sides to a fan-base. There is a side that does not appreciate the thing, those who take it WAAAAY too seriously, and then there are those who appreciate it and respect it. Those in the third side are the smartest. Tat being said, this game series can be taken in in many ways. It can just be played to kill people and destroy things, it can be played just for the story and no fun, or it can be taken in a little at a time.

You can't say the game is not interesting and if you think it isn't, then you have taken in the game the wrong way. It's like those who play Mass Effect and say it's so boring or stupid. They can't appreciate it in a way that other's do.

I enjoy the Grand Theft Auto games for their very fun and competitive style. The stories are really good, the gameplay a bit off at times but still good, a lot of activities for you to do, and I just love running pedestrians over. Shooting with friends in multiplayer, and being able to interact a lot in the story mode.

Truth be told, I've never owned a copy of a GTA game since I've got a younger brother who I play most of my video games with* but I have been Idolizing the hell out of it when I played it at a friend of the family's house when I was about 10. The fact you can do pretty much everything, what it felt like at the time, was unbelievable. I knew that that was one thing I really could look forward to later on.

When I can get 18 rated games. Whatever GTA game which is available at the time, I will get it. And I will be content. I know that I won't be able to get GTA V which is pretty depressing considering that game makes me swoon anytime I hear something new about it. :(

*Which to be fair is pretty fun!

((I forgot to mention that I can play GTA Chinatown Wars on my Laptop but it's just not the same.))
