So, a casual brony has some questions

Alright, I'm not really that into the brony fandom, just a filthy casual

 

I just joined here, the main reason being I was hoping I could get some deeper info on the brony fandom. The only site I really tune into is Equestria Daily, and what I noticed was that one of the Admins is thinking about resigning because of a lot of stress the brony fandom causes him.

 

Honestly, I didn't keep up with any of this. Sure, I knew people were butthurt about Twilight becoming an Alicorn and the whole Equestria Girls thing, but I never knew it could be so bad that it causes a person that much stress, along with apparently a lot of hypocrisy  and stuff in the fandom these days (?).

 

So I'm just wondering where I could be up-to-date on stuff that goes on in the fandom like this. Is this like a Tumblr thing, because I heard something about "Down with Molestia," but at the same time I see so many brony meetups mentioned on Equestria Daily and the whole "Bronies For Charity" thing, not to mention Bronycon.

I think it's a lot like your average news station in that there's not really any one place where you can get all of the information.  Each place is going to portray its information in a specific way; for example, (in my opinion) Equestria Daily tends to sugarcoat many issues, (from what I've heard) /pony/ tends to overreact, etc.  I find that going through the threads on this forum (particularly Sugarcube Corner and Show Discussion) is pretty informative, but even then we're not really representative of the entire fanbase and our collective 'personality' may not reflect what you're looking for.  Sorry, this probably isn't the answer you were looking for, but that's my take on the question. (It's late and I should be asleep, so the above may not make any sense.  I apologize for that.)

I'd still say Equestria Daily is the best place for pony news. I always go on that site for stuff about the fandom. And it's still a great site in general to see much of the creative aspects of this wonderful Fandom like Art, Music, Animation. 

 

Also I've been in the fandom for a long time and know quite a decent amount of stuff about what this fandom is like. I could probably answer any questions you have on the fandom if you still wish to know more deeper info on us. Feel free to PM me if you want.

The best way to keep up with the fandom, regarding information like this is Equestriadaily, it's the best way to discover the creativity and etc. New music, animations and just fan created content and of course news. So you're doing it right, you've just somehow managed to not notice it and that's probably just good since these dramas are usually not worth getting into. Of course youtube and other brony sites are good too, but usually you can find it on Equestriadaily. So that's pretty much it, Equestriadaily is in my opinion the best way to keep up with the fandom. There are other news sites, but I think EQD is just best for some reason.

Well. I hear everything I hear from here, or it happens directly in the show or something.

 

You will probaly find a thread here of something important happens frankly.

 

EqD will do the same, just portrayed different.

 

Some people, especially admins just dont feel they have the time due to life obligations or stuff anymore, which is understandable really.

 

Some did leave due to other things in the fandom, but it happens.

 

It's up to them I guess, there are tons of reasons why the admin be be resigning.

 

But anyways, you can get news via here on the forums, YouTube, EQD or any other site frankly. Every site will give you an alteration of the information though.

 

I feel kept up to date here personally, but idk maybe it's just I've been here so long.

Lol, when I said I just joined here, I was referring to the site. Beginning of this month was actually my 1 year brony-anniversary.

 

That being put aside, the welcomes and the helpfulness really mean a lot. But the thing is I never noticed that much hypocrisy and stuff, because I noticed some people want to distance themselves from the fandom because of this. This stuff is what I wanted to see, not just all the happier news, I guess, that Equestria Daily shows. Sorry I didn't make myself that clear.

Equestria Daily is like a news site to keep you up to date on everything, and showcase a lot of the fandom's creations. As for this site, it shows a lot of what this fandom is capable of.

Also, EqD is a pretty good site to keep up on news on the fandom and such.

For me I just stay on Sugarcube Corner on the forums here and from various bronies on YouTube. It's not much but EQD is probably the best place for news. Also if you ponify the websites that you use most often then they can give you some great news as well. Though be careful with ponifying your websites otherwise the internet could begin to look a lot like this to you.

As for this site, I'd say it's the largest forum thus far. If you hit each of these up, you're doing fine.

In my opinion, the three best sites to use are obviously EqD, the lesser known Derpy Hooves News, and last but not least 4chan's /mlp/ board.

Well I'm Gona answer this question since no one has given a direct breakdown.

 

As of the end of S3, majority of the fan base is split between two groups, and EQ girls divided it even more. There was a ton of drama relating to the topic about the fate of MLP, and flame wars broke out among EQD, pony chan, buck I think there's a few topics on this fourm. Trolls went around making stupid topics, spreading hurtful rumors about other ponies and so on. I haven't been on the forums long, but I looked into the pros and cons of the fandom before I joined, and it was alot better than what i initially thought. The art is substansial, most if not all, fanimations resemble the show in some way (as far as drawing and bringing it to life. SillyFillyStudios does excellent work), the music is better than most music out there and the fan base actually gives a damn about its fellow members. It's one of the more heartwarming and helping fandoms, and I'm proud to say I'm apart of it.

 

Alot of people left the fandom due to the end of S3 (which is stupid). Granted that as a ton of people left, alot more joined. We have trolls (enough to piss you off) but every fandom does, but atleast every troll has some appreciation for the show no matter how much they say they hate it, no matter how much they say they hate it.
