gaming Any MMO games that anyone plays

Fire Bomb

My faction is the Vanu Soverignty, and I either play on Mattherson or Connery, I can't remember. It's the U.S. West one.

On a side note, Twelvesky2 is a fun game as well.

Too bad. I'm mainly playing TR on Woodman, and Vanu on Waterson. There should be a pony outfit on Waterson if I remember correctly.

On topic.

Is there any specific genre you're interested in? Roleplay, strategy, first person shooters?

It depends on what type of MMO are you looking for.
I honestly dont care, i do tend to play roleplaying games more often but i am open to any suggestions and who knows, maybe an mmostragegy game would really appeal to me.

Well, I for my part love to play Wizard101 DE (Since I am german) and Pirate101 US. In my opinion they are both great games and totally worth the money you might need to put into the games. Other than that, Champions Online is pretty cool, too.

TL;DR version: I've been playing MapleStory for a good 7 years now, it's...alright. *shrug*

I refute all of the hate against MapleStory, I've been around the game since the Summer of 2006. No matter how irritating the never-ending grind gets, it makes one hell of a better Gaia Online/Facebook clone where you can chill with friends and hang out. Nexon's a horrible company, sure, but after seeing the game go through so many changes over its existence, they...may or may not be stepping up their game. Hacks are generally blocked a few days after they've been discovered. There hasn't been a major rollback in AT LEAST two years. The fact that there are literally over 30 classes in the game can get annoying, but it isn't hard to find one you can tolerate.

I'm not going to sit here and glorify the game, it has its flaws and I accept them. It took me 7 years to hit level 200, but I finally did. Is the new 250 level cap unfair? Yes. Is the fact that there's virtually no end-game content for 200+ dumb? Yes. But I'm sure they're going to find a way to make it easier to stomach in the near future. The economy's screwed up beyond belief, yeah, and most end-game weapons/armors ARE expensive as all hell to get. Level 140 Empress armor WAS a good two billion mesos apiece (roughly $40-50), now it's down to a manageable 100-200mil that most semi-unfunded characters can obtain, no problem. I will say one thing, though: the boss buff was uncalled for, especially since they told us we WEREN'T getting it to begin with, because we didn't get the Korean version's class buffs. Yet they did it anyway.

So I'll say this: MapleStory's hit or miss. If you can stomach the grinding and find some good friends to hang out with and train together, you're set. *shrug*

Well, there's the basic Tribal Wars and Travian, I think that's the name. Somewhat simple games. Build up a village, conquer others and all that. Game keeps going when you log out.

Despite the fact that strategy games are the ones I play the most, I don't really know that many mmorts games.

You can find something called Dawn of Fantasy: Kingdom Wars on steam. As far as I know, it's about building a castle that can withstand the assault from other players.

Iron Grip: Maurauders is also a possibility. Don't know too much about it though.

I haven't tried either of those, so I can't recommend them.

The Epic Quest for Mighty Loot looks promising to me. I might try it myself later.

Defiance has been mentioned earlier, and I agree with that recommendation. It is quite fun.

Thorough research is obviously advised before acquiring any of those titles. My taste may not be the same as yours.

Try EVE Online. The definition of an MMO in the truest sense.

Single server for all players. Events happening on other side of galaxy can affect you even if not involved. Battles can reach a few thousand active players fighting in a single space together at once. Player Pirates roaming around. Emergent gameplay, Player made events in-game. Lots of espionage and subversion and even theft in corporations (the 'guilds' of EVE). Entire wars to control sovereignty space. Plus so much more.

Just can't be a sore loser or someone expecting any hand-holding like more typical MMO's do. EVE doesn't just look like a cold and merciless space, it is a cold and merciless galaxy.

Been playing Guild Wars 2 for over 550 hours for now and I'm still playing it every day. Such a fantastic game.

Other MMOs I've played include:

WoW - Spent a few years playing this, never got really good at it though and then it got boring and I decided to not to buy the MoP expansion and I quit the game.

Planetside 2 - Played this for six hours. Seemed like an interesting game, but it wasn't enough to keep me playing.

Runescape - Pretty much everyone I knew played this game when I was in elementary school and I just got dragged in. It was fun back then but everyone stopped playing it, including me, as we got older.

Can't think of anything else right now.

I'm debating trying to get into an MMO at some point, as despite gaming for many years it's probably the only genre of game I've never tried due to being put off by the amount of time I assume it would take to level grind, and also the difficulty curve I assume the genre has when say compared to RPG's.

Anyway I'm curious as to what MMO's people play? As if I did decide I wanted to play an MMO It would definitely be with other people from these forums.

Details are always fun.

I play EVE Online, one of the largest online worlds ever made. It is a vast sci-fi experience where you fly around the galaxy in a space ship. The entire world is player run there are mega-corps that employ thousands of pilots and it is all run by other people playing the game. I run my own mining and industry corp, we also do a little trading. There are also pvp corps or like me you can do some pve for fun without the danger of losing your ship... most of the time.

Hey there! The topic you created was already in existence, so I've merged your new topic and this older one as they cover the same subject.

As for MMOs that I personally play, I'm currently fairly active in Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2. I don't think I'd recommend going with Guild Wars 1 as your first MMO though as it's... different.

A few examples of MMOs that are fairly solid and have trials or are F2P (that I've played and enjoyed) are:

Rift - Recently went almost completely F2P. I'm fairly certain that you aren't restricted in content except for four 'souls' (which are basically class specializations) if you buy something from their virtual store, but I think playing just completely free doesn't limit you much either. Decent MMO to get your feet wet with Imo.

Similar to WoW, but lacking something key that I can't put my finger on. $15 subscription fee is available, but just grants things like XP boosts.

WoW - Free up until level 20, at which point you have to pay 15 bucks a month and buy expansion packs as you come to them. Probably the most well known MMO out there, and has a massive amount of content. It's not super complicated to get into or anything, but is very solid.

Lord of the Rings Online - Large leveling curve and a bit dated, but remains one of my absolute favorites (probably because it was one of the first I've played). It's free up to level cap, but if you want to quest in various areas you have to buy them with the developer's special real money currency or buy a $15

per month sub. I think you can get to around level 30 without a real need for this. Note that you can earn the real money currency through gameplay. Also note that you're barred from a lot of convenience features without paying money in some form OR buying it with earned real money currency.

^ Those are all fantasy MMORPGs.

Planetside 2 is a fairly fun F2P FPS MMOG if you have a group of friends to mess around with.

As for your concern on level grinding: If you enjoy the gameplay and world enough, chances are you won't even notice the amount of time you're sinking into the game as there's just so much stuff to do. I usually get around 100-200hrs minimum in MMOs I play, and it doesn't even feel like it. That could just be me though.

I've played WoW for about 5 years now (not continuously) since Wrath of the Lich King came out. I've also played a little bit of Guild Wars 2 when it first came out, but never got into it (old habits die hard). GW2 has a up front payment but is free to play for the most part. WoW has a upfront cost (game + expansions) as well as the whole $15 a month.

When it comes to MMOs, they may seem intimidating at first, because it seems so complex and that so much time is needed to understand how to do things effecitvely. The former isn't true once you do the latter.

Time. You're gonna need it. Even if it's only an hour a day, you're gonna have to spend some time working around your classes, understanding what each class can and can't do, what their main role is, how to properly achieve that role, and lots of other goodies. You're gonna have to understand how the world works a bit to get around more easily. Understanding the most optimal method of travel, where items can be located, where enemies can be found, all that good stuff. You'e gonna have to spend time gearing up your toons, learning boss fights if you're gonna head down the PvE route or learning the ins and outs of classes if PvP is your calling. You're also gonna have to understand MMO lingo too, but that will have obvious variations.

Understanding your keys and clicks will determine how well you'll play; For most MMO's, macros and key-bindings are the way to go, as they increase visual awareness and reaction time, as well as being simply more effective. Clicking will slow you down.

I click. After 5 years, I still click in WoW. I've got some key bindings and macros set up, but the majority is clicking. Why does this matter? Because perhaps the most important things I can tell you about MMO's are don't let them suck you in completely and don't start treating it like a job

The whole point of playing games, especially MMO's, is to meet new friends and have fun. So have fun. Don't start treating it like a first or second job to get the best gear, to get those dailies in on all your toons or to run the same thing, day after day, week after week. Play how you want to. If you truly want to optimize your game so you can be the best you possibly can, if you really want to work together with others to down the newest and baddest bosses when they come out, or if you want to work your way up the PvP ladder to be one of the best, let that come as naturally as you can.

It takes time, simple as that. No matter what you wanna do, it's gonna take time to get there. Enjoy the ride, because some of the greatest (and worst) moments you'll have will be with other people, friends and total strangers alike.
