Yes, I keep trying, don't I?

 

Some of you probably know that when I first joined this site, I was Leaf Shade. She was my first ever OC, originally as a green pegasus with a darker green mane, created in... what else, Pony Creator!

How very generic looking!

 

This is the username I adopted first, used on the MLP wiki, used on literally everything pony-related back when I was thirteen. But wait, that's not the point... why am I even giving this introduction?! 

And then there was that period where I became obsessed with Pokemon, and I was like, why not turn this generic-looking pony into a Ponymon hybrid? Those who hate crossovers will hate this, but I thought it was a great idea. I drew this last year, and I know it is bad, so bear with me.

 

Then, heck yeah, I took a template form deviantART and basically drew some crap over it.

(Apologies for the abundant amount of images.)

 

And this will get better, I promise.

 

So lately I've taken up digital art. I've drawn one of my other OCs, Raven Wing, to try it out. I got encouraged (not really) to draw this filly out as well. Here is the final result:

 

Clearly a major improvement, I'd think

 

Also made an alternate with a different smile and unshaded eyes:

Well, the "New & Improved" Leaf Shade really looks nice, compared to the original. I think the new body color/coat color fits much better with the Forest Green your using in the mane, tail, hooves, and wings. The iris looks a bit out-of-place.. Perhaps if you were to sharpen it a bit, it would fit better. I would think the fading (wings, tail, ear) should be drawn out a bit more, it'd probably look better as a longer fade...

It really was a pleasure watching you put this together, and to help in my little pathetic ways that I could . One thing I will say is that something about the muzzle looks a little off to me, though I don't know how I'd go about making it stand out from the head more.

I noticed the off muzzle aswell. I looked a bit closer... The eye on the opposite side of her head is showing just above her muzzle (the white of her eye). The muzzle is actually a bit shorter than normal. Perhaps if it were longer it wouldn't seem off

 

P.S. With the angle you have her head at, it seems as though her right eye (the left eye from our POV) is about to pop out of her skull... Perhaps flatten it a bit

She's lookin' cute, Clari. One thing I can say is that she really contrasts your other OC, Raven Wing. While she's kinda dark and depressing, LS looks bright.

 

Are you going to do some art for your other OC, Clarity? (Pony Clarity, with the blue hair and white fur and whatnot)

My, Clarity, you've improved compared to your past art. Hopefully, this'll get you to draw more... TLeaf Shade actually looks like a ponified Leafeon to me, but that's not the point.

I just totally told someone on skype this about her art, but I'll tell you the exact same thing. I think your style is much more suited to vector art rather than raster art. You could get some higher quality drawings and the lines will be easier to manage with vector.

 

I like your OC by the way but yeah

Huh, because I felt that the muzzle was a bit too long compared to show ponies. Felt like the shape was kinda off as well...

Maybe. As I told you on Skype, I'm making an avatar for me, and it'll probably be of either Clarity or Applejack. Depends.

Thanks! And yes, she is a ponified Leafeon, so she's... kind of, in a way, slightly overpowered (though it wouldn't be so if this was the Pokemon world).

Unfortunately I don't have the foggiest idea of how to vector something. I'll stick with detailed and accurate first before switching to messy shading. Something like WhiteDiamonds's art, she draws fantastically!

Well Clarity, I'm not an artist at all, so I can't really give much of a critique. I will say that the current design for your OC is very nice, and that you definitely made an improvement on it. I'm liking the Leafeon-esque look, and you did a very nice job giving some detail to the pony's leaves.

 

Keep at it!
