Are Fandom Inside Jokes Dying?

No no no, the fandom isn't dead, its just the drought we have to wait until season 4 arrives. I know!.

The parts of the fandom I'm referring to are the small ones, the little insider jokes we had within our community.

For example: Lyra's strange sitting position and obsessions with humans 

                    : Derpy being.... well whatever the fandom made of her back then (are we still saving derpy?)

                    : Rarity being a marshmallow! (its like nopony even remembers this inside joke)

 

Its like all of these jokes are used out and no one remembers them, these insider jokes used to be taken for granted, now we have run out

I'd say more of a smoldering ember, if Lyra appears sitting again or Derpy appears even once, even for a fraction of a second it'll start burning again.

 

Ofc,S4 could make other nods to the fandom altogether so even if they do fade, new ones will take their place.

Too be honest I'm glad to see the Lyra's human obsession joke go. I'm sure other people enjoyed it but how unprompted, pointless and HUGELY over-used it was really got under my skin.

 

I wouldn't mind seeing more Derpy in season 4, She always did put a smile on my face.

I wouldn't be too upset about losing these jokes. Could always take more from season 4 for better or worse.

Yeah, its just the lack of new canon content until season 4 airs. It's bound to happen, more so after the current series where we've had half the episodes, and twice the controversy as we have the previous two.

Well, Derpy has been saved as far as I know. She will be in season 4, in the same way she was in EqG, so no worries there. The others, I am unsure, I suppose I have not been paying great attention to those particular jokes, the Rarimellow one especially. More or less, I don't think parts of the fandom are dying, they are just staying more quiet until season 4. I really wish the negative side of the fandom would die though...It is lesser now, but still there.

I wouldn't say they are dying so much as they are being replaced.  We have plenty of Princess Cadance memes still going strong, so I think it's less a fandom lull than just the appetite for novelty that goes on even when there is new canon content.

It does seem like some portions of the MLP fandom are gradually dying and fading away. Save Derpy is pretty much dead at this point since the theories of her removal in season 4 seem to have been disproven.

 

Lyra's human obsession is just about dead as well. I think the horror fanfic Cupcakes is also slowly starting to die in its popularity. thankfully.

 

I remember when a whole bunch of fans couldn't stop talking about My Little Dashie, now I hardly ever hear about, so that too could be most likely dead to the fandom.

 

But you gotta consider all the new bronies barely just joining the herd. They would most likely stumble upon these long forgotten aspects of the fandom and bring them back from the dead. At least in my experience, that's what usually happens.

@@QuirkyUsername, I think there is less derpy now then ever, but like you say if she appears just once more then she will go right back to the top.

 

I miss rewatching the episodes over and over to try and see her It was really good fun!

 

 

I think that they are also adding some new background characters so characters like Lyra (although present) will be eclipsed a bit as people come up with things for the new characters!

Hmm, I think things pick up again when season 4 comes around the corner and if season 4 is completely horrible then that might be the end of the growing fandom.

Well...they're inside jokes.

 

Inside jokes don't usually last an extremely long amount of time from what I've seen. For example, that "Scootaloo is a chicken" joke is starting to fade into obscurity. Which is good, because that joke was honestly stupid.

 

 

But, when season 4 starts up and we continue getting more shout-outs to the fandom, (namely, Derpy), those parts of the fandom will become more active. More likely than anything, we'll get newer inside jokes that will replace the older ones, like the "Rarity is a marshmallow" joke.

@SwigglySwiggly, hiya. Just letting you know that I've renamed your thread a little to make it clear that it was different from an older thread that we had.

 

Anyway, I still see plenty of references to the older jokes and memes here and there, though they may have lost their novelty with some people. Jokes come in and out of style like everything and I'm sure the fandom will find plenty of new little things to reference, even if the older things lose popularity.

I think people still obsess over Lyra's obsession.  That's how it seems to me.

I know a lot of people still really love and obsess over Derpy.

And I just read a comic strip about Rarity being a marshmellow.

I think the best way to describe the fandom's movements over all would be like the tides on the shore; it ebbs and flows.  That didn't do it for ya?  How about the moon?  It waxes and wanes.

I kind of hope some of the more silly things die out, like the "Sweetie Belle is a dictionary" or "Spike is best Rainbow Dash" jokes, which pretty much have died. That's good, I like memes just as much as the next guy but some things are just pointless and silly. I hope those die out.

I think the lack of inside jokes are caused by the lack of new MLP episodes. :/ The jokes will probably start up again with the show, when the background ponies make more appearances, and when the writers make more reference to the fandom and the jokes within it.

Trust me, they will.
