Canterlot Wedding, yay or nay?

Well, from a emotional perspective I loved it because it was so nostalgic due to being so much like the kind of animated movies I grew up with.

From a technical perspective I think it has some of the best music and animation of the entire show(along with the Crystal Empire).

As for other things. I think Chrysalis is awesome and possibly the best villain in the entire show, even more so with the way the comics fleshed her out. I also actually really like Shining and Cadance.

Its my favorite episode ever!

Does it have flaws? Yeah, sure, but what episode is perfect?

I love the Saturday-morning Cartoon style fight against the Changelings, I love the songs, especially the villain song, and I love Magic Gatling Gun Twilight!

Can't really argue with that...

But I can argue with this!

Oh boy... Where do I even begin?

No no no, Chrysalis is possible THE worst villain in the whole series, worse than Sombra or Sunshit. While the comics did add depth to her character, she comes off as a complete and utter idiot. Her whole plan revolves around using love to winn, but later she says love is a "A SILLY SENTIMENT"! Plus, instead of just killing them, she just stands there and lets Twilight free Cadence

Speaking of Cadence, she and Shining are the two biggest cop outs the series has ever made. What's worse, Cadence is a boring bland-as-Styrofoam character with no personality, while Shining Armor was never even mentioned prior to this episode

And don't even get me started on the plot holes

That's part of the charm, being a egotistical dumbass is how many Saturday morning cartoon villains operated, and the love comment may have been because she assumed only changelings could  gain any true power from it.

As for Shining, I admit that was a massive plothole but I like him as a character to much to fault it or complain, and I admit she's not the most interesting character but I still like Cadance.

The first episode is terrific. No complaints there.

UNPOPULAR OPINION TIME:

The second episode begins amazingly with this This Day Aria but starts falling apart as soon as Chrysalis reveals herself. From that point on it's just some weird amorphous narrative blob with weak plotting and weak internal logic. Why would Chrysalis try to take on Celestia? Why does Celestia lose? Why are the changelings attacking when what they need is love? Why does the entire resolution to the conflict hinge on Chrysalis just standing there doing nothing?

Plot holes don't usually bug me that much as long as I'm entertained, but the second episode only barely manages that. The fight scene, in particular, is way overhyped. It wouldn't be half as good without.Pinkie's Party Cannon.

That's pretty subjective, and still does not justify the gaping plot hole it created

Got any proof? It work as a headcanon but does not excuse the sloppy writing

but I still like Cadance.

Ok, I kinda get Shining, BUT WHY CADENCE? She has absolutely zero personality other than "she loves Shining"

You can't really know that the writers intent for the line was at the time of writing, so it's really all up in the air

You know, I don't why. I just kinda do.

It was vastly better than the overrated as hell Return of Harmony episode. I think this one is the best out of all the "Special Episodes" so far. I think Chrysalis is average for the MLP villains, not bad or great.

1. Sombra

2. Sunset Shimmer

3. Chrysalis

4. Discord

5. Nightmare Moon

Last note, the DBZ style beam battle was awesome

You're right, you can't know. Because of that, speculation can't be used as an argument, since there is no evidence for or against it

So that's all you can really do is discuss what the intention of it could have been and throw around ideas since there's really no definite answer.

I just judge what's on the screen man. If I have to resort to baseless speculation in order to make the plot work then I'm pretty sure they didn't do a good job

Wow, you don't like Sunset Shimmer at all, do you? There's no need to get all hissy on me, I don't call Discord "Douchecord" and Nightmare Moon "Nightmare Ass", do I? I get the feeling you've had this debate with several people

Sorry if I came of as a jerk. And no, I don't really like Sunshit a lot, but she is not the worst villain. I just hope she gets more development in the comics

Also I didn't even make up that name, I saw it on Voice Of Reason's review and thought it was hilarious

NM and Discord are great villains BTW

Also I don't think Nightmare MOON needs any modification, if you get what I mean ;)

What exactly does "Sunshit" do that's worse than "Nightmare Ass" and "Douchecord"?(Only doing that because you insist on the "Sunshit" thing) Discord could have stopped the Mane any time but stood there like a moron trusting in his own power. Nightmare Moon was a cliche villain with no threat(Cutting mustaches, how scary)

While Dipcord (see I can be clever) did the stupid old "just stand there" thing, he is a pretty interesting character. Nightmare Moon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mooning) was pretty cliche (Canterlot Wedding is still leagues better than Return of Harmony), but she was actually a developed character

Whereas Sunshit's only motivation was "she didn't get what she wanted", and was redeemed instantly after being defeated. The only way this can make sense is if we delve into headcanon territory

Nightmare Moon is very similar to Sunset. Let's see what happens when I replace your opinion on Sunset with Nightmare Moon.

Do you now see why Nightmare Moon and Sunset are so similar? Difference, Sunset had better execution than Nightmare Moon. As for Discord being an interesting character, he's got the I.Q. of a 4 year old on sugar, is the most cliched idea ever(Spirit of Evil), and was a moron

Then EDMverse NM sucks. Again, it's all in the motivation, NM was a great villain, but she wasn't as bad Sunset Shitter (see I stopped calling her Sunshit smile.png)

Not the most cliched idea, I've seen worse. And he isn't the Spirit of Evil, he's the Spirit of Chaos, otherwise he couldn't have been reformed

A moron? No. Stupid, but not a complete moron, Chrysalis did it far worse

But you can't judge it because you don't know the intent. To say it was bad writing is making a assumption in and of itself when the staff have proved to be quite clever.

Again, we have no evidence that was their intent. And if the writers fails to make the story comprehensible to the audience, I'd say that qualifies as bad writing

Or maybe they thought the audience would get it, you don't want to baby the viewer and beat them over the head with everything because you then lose the power of subtlety. Sometimes the best characterization is the the kind that's subtly delivered.

If that was the case, then they were too subtle. Even then, how do we have any evidence that they were trying to be subtle in the first place?

We don't have any evidence that they weren't either. We can go round and round on this all day because neither of us know the answer, we can only guess.

And don't take this as a personal attack, because I can think of no way to make this point that doesn't sound questionable, but: We're they to subtle, or we're you just not smart enough to catch it? One of the biggest problems I see with people people judge works is calling something to complicated just because they were to stupid(or in some cases impatient) to figure it out.
