favourite country anthems

Alright, this thread is not about which countries anthem is best, or which country is better, this thread is about your favourite anthems (countries),..so let's keep it at that shall we, i'll start.

 

My favourite anthems are:

, not because i'm from there, because i kind of dont like my country, but because it's one of the few anthems that doesn't go like this: "our country is the best", the anthem says "may all nations see the light of day" and that..i find nice

"The Star Spangled Banner",  not just because I am American, but also I just really like the song itself, especially the full version.

Wales.

Bit biased as I am Welsh, but it is actually completely badass sounding and it mentions our awesome skills as artists (both visual and written) and musicians, haha. :-p

Personally I find it incredibly beautiful.

It's kinda biased because I'm a patriotic Canadian, I do believe it's a beautiful anthem regardless.

 

That said I actually enjoy a lot of anthems. U.S, U.K, France, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Russia, more.

For the sake of being unbiased, i went and listened to a whole bunch of anthems and paid close attention to the lyrics and the melody. My favorites are probably Japan, Cook Islands, Russia, and India. I've noticed i tend to favor the anthems that sound the least march-like, and ones that are usually outside europe. all the marches, while pretty, kinda start to sound the same to me after awhile :/ honorable mention for sweden and russia

 

UK- its a nice anthem, mostly about loyalty to the queen and for the country's protection under god. very bouncy.

 

Germany- it sounds really happy/bright and the lyrics are carefree compared to some other countries.

 

Japan- I like that it has a bit of a darker tone and isn't nearly as bouncy as the other anthems i heard. Its very japan. solemn and majestic. this one is one of my favorites, even if it is a bit short.

 

Russia- omg this one is great. it has alot of high notes in it plenty of rising and falling moments, the melody is especially beautiful. the lyrics are about being proud and that russian is a one of a kind nation.

 

Mexico- their lyrics are kinda bloody, yikes O_o very marchlike/staccato and it still has a mexican vibe to it

 

america- i've heard this anthem my whole life, so tbh hearing it kinda bores me.

 

france- i feel like this one may be the most variable and have the most syncopation, music wise. it changes alot and is kinda surprising. i like it! similarly to mexico, the lyrics are kinda bloody and war-focused.

 

sweden- very legato and melodic. its really pretty. among my favorites the lyrics are peaceful and kinda sweet. its about loving sweden for who it is (country wise) and how beautiful it is.

 

india- holy crap this one is really really beautiful. indian music is well known for its highly distinct, expressive emotional style and this one is no exception. one of my favorites.

 

australia- its very joyous and happy sounding! its a nice anthem

 

Cook Islands(New Zealand)- i was a bit confused, because apparently new zealand has like 2 or three national anthems. the song i'm talking about is Te Atua Mou E. definitely a favorite of mine! smooth, legato, and harmonic. i love the harmonizing, the version i'm listening to has tamborines and acoustic guitars.

Deutschlandlied is without a question my favourite anthem. It's both graceful and grandiose at the same time, and it makes me want to get up and sing along every time I hear it.

And, of course, as a proud Finn, I had to include this one. Gives me warm feels every single time ^^

I quite like the Soviet Union's anthem, that and Russia's anthem are VERY similar. 

 

Also the UK's anthem is pretty cool also

My favorites would have to be Japan, and Russia.

 

Japan's anthem has an ancient vibe to it, and it's really cool.

 

Russia's is powerful, catchy, and very patriotic sounding.

 

Both of these are beautiful songs, in my opinion.

Why would it be anti-american? Because it's russian , you shouldnt think of it that way, just because russia used to be your adversarie in the 20th century...+ it's a nice anthem

Well, the soviet and russian anthem are basically the same anthem just with different lyrics.

I love the Canadian Anthem not just because I'm Canadian i think its really beautiful and every time i listen to it, i feel really proud of my country and really gracious that we are free.

 

The great thing about the anthem is that its also french and english (french is a sick language its just a pain to learn). This version i have is my favourite it is separate between english and french but there is also a version that has both english and french.

There are two songs for India that I love. One is "Vande Mataram" and the other is "Jana Gana Mana." The song "Vande Mataram" was dedicated to the Indian independence movement. Unfortunately, "Jana Gana Mana" was originally composed to praise King George V and the Queen of England. Today, however, "Jana Gana Mana" is not used as a praise to King George V and the Queen of England, but as India's national anthem. I prefer "Vande Mataram" because it shows the true spirit of India's heritage and culture.
