How come twilight (or any of the main six) doesn't have any friends like her?

Or any of the main cast.  I briefly touched on this in my thread the main five.

Isn't it odd twilight sparkle doesn't have any friends who are bonzo gonzo into magic?

(or apple jack doesn't have any farmer friends, no really).

I mean it's literally impossible as the show is set up.

My proof

rainbow dash on two different occasions could had friends similar to her (similar) and they had to be demonfied and literally irredeemable in the same show that forgave trixie and discord.

Why?  Cause they would been rainbows friends.  Trixie is redeemed, but she's not anyone's friend.  Correct?

That's the major difference between her and discord.

He's friends with flutter shy.  he has a reason to come back.  a air tight reason you can't argue with or else you have to throw away the whole shows moral.

I didn't mention a pony like pinkie cause there aren't any ponies like pinkie LOL.  Probably not even in fan fiction.

I could see the problem with flutter shy having a friend like her, you can't have two church mouses on screen at the same time talking.

I think it would be funny to have rarity see someone vaguely act like her and be like "am i that bad?"

I understand that twilight was a shut in before she came to ponyville, but i mean it would been neat to see a class mate from where she learned come to visit.

It's because, Twilight used to be the pony who would not want to make friends or be social. Besides, Twilight doesn't really know any other friends that dabble in magic besides Rarity and Trixie.

Isn't that kinda weird?

I mean rainbow dash in hurricane fluter shy had ties to spit fire, had cultivated  (at least on her end) ties to the wonder bolts and perused it.

twilight sparkle is the element of friend ship.

Equistra is a magical place.

Shouldn't twilight even if it's just off screen in letters have a couple of magical friends?  I mean least by now?

twilight.

"hay i learned friend ship and I love magic!  I know i should make some friends i can talk magic with!"

Am i grossely out of line?

Well okay i'll go a little further, (till i am out of line heh)

she's celestails number one student yes?

and judging by trixie (being a former class mate of Twilights according to lauren faust)

Sun set shimmer,

and star swirl the bearded,

Friend ship is something deeply lacking at canterlot magic achedmy.  Would you not agree?

Think we'll get an episode where twilight teaches friend ship to the mages at canterlot?

It sure sounds like they could use it.

I could see Twilight teaching the magical wonders of friendship, so yeah.

It's all about what the writers decide to focus on and show. It's like the example I used in another thread about Max and Ruby. We never see their parents, but that doesn't mean they have none. The show is about the mane six but even then it's just a snapshot of their lives.

I think this was touched upon quite early. Simply put, before coming to Ponyville, Twilight was rather antisocial. Now that she's discovered Friendship is Magic, She's got the friends she needs, why bother with more? Those six and the purple dog dragon seem to be enough.

The mane 6 are not exactly the same that much is indeed true but even the most seemingly at odds ones have more in common than it would first appear. Applejack and Rarity who seem to have almost nothing in common have found some common ground and have accepted each other differences while sharing what things they do have in common. Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy have been friends since they were little fillies and it has strongly implied that Rainbow Dash is very protective of Fluttershy.

That's not the power of friend ship! LOL.

that's the power of being cl-icky.  What a terrible message.  that's been my point about the main six.

(I mean besides pinkie cause she's every ponies friend which kinda further proves why can't twilight have more friends?)

I mean i've been dying to put those words you said in someones mouth,

thankfully now i don't have to ^^ now.

I think scenes like this from the comics might give us more actual insight into what Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns is like:

GPoCQ5W.jpg

The academy as you may have guessed already, isn't exactly like a normal school. If anything, it seems quite elitist, grand, and overwhelming considering how many high class and wealthy unicorns (emphasis on unicorns since none of the spouses there are other races) have their children attend the school.

We don't really know much about Twilight's family, but we do know that she's socially awkward and even when she took her test to enter the school, she was very bookish, and socially awkward afraid of what others may say about her. Also even though its a joke really, Twilight's thoughts about repeating Magic Kindergarten tells us quite a bit about how she felt about her childhood, at least at school:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujiw-9q0aLM

Yea not fun times. If you consider those factors, it was probably terrifying for a socially awkward, nerdy, and rather low self esteem person like Twilight to go to school. If anything it would be surprising if she had any friends.

To your Rainbow Dash example, I can understand why you would bring it up, but RD is the complete opposite of Twilight. She's outgoing, obnoxious, confident, loud, athletic well known and popular amongst her peers. If anything RD would be the popular kid and/or jock at school. Naturally her activities she enjoys are those that encourages teamwork, camraderie, and socialization, all things that often lead to more friends, namely sports, partying, and of course the Wonderbolts for RD.

On the last point I do think you missed the point but its a common mistake a lot of people make. Let me ask you this:

what makes for a better protagonist? One that's already whole and perfect from the start, OR one that has to struggle to possibly earn his prize, reach his goal or become who he/she is later?

Frodo didn't start off being the hero, nor did he have the likely traits. He was reluctant, small and unintimidating, unsure and relied upon others to aid him. Its not until by the end of the book that he has truly become the hero he deserved to be. Even Aragorn wasn't crowned a king or bowed down to. He started off as a stranger and an deemed undeserving of the title of king to his allies until he proved his worth. These protagonists succeeded despite of who they were.

The same goes for Twilight, and yes Fluttershy and Rarity too. People say it doesn't make sense that someone shy would make friends but what would you have instead? Someone that's already popular make moar friends, like Rainbow or Pinkie? That doesn't create much plot progression and character development. Twilight is the element of friendship b/c she manages to understand friendship and have close friends, despite who she was before.

This helps tie in the Mane 6 well, along with their relations to 1 another and others too and its partly why I love this show so much. Twilight is a great character b/c she is where she is b/c she has her friends to support and influence her, including Spike despite her flaws and weaknesses. Rarity is similar in this regard. even though she is already generous by nature, she herself goes through a lot of hardships. In spite of her taste for high class, wealth, and fashion, Rarity of all people is generous, much like how a shy nerd like Twilight manages to understand friendship better than others. This inner conflict, complexity and development, is what makes characters like Twilight and Rarity unique. Don't limit yourself to norms and stereotypes.

If you love Fluttershy you should understand this. We root for Fluttershy because she's weak and yet strong. Despite her cowardice and shyness, she manages, like Twilight w/ her friends help and her own will to overcome obstacles and challenges.

f you forgot it in grade school then remember it now:

Don't judge a book by its cover.
