Guest May 24, 2015 Share May 24, 2015 Fatal Frame series... my mom played those games when I was younger and they scared the living hell out of me. She also played Clock Tower 3 which I remember but not fondly. I saw a lot of those horror games when I was little and ehh never been a big fan of the genre myself. But Bioshock was one of my all time favorite games in the genre. Not only was it really fun and unique. It had tons of scary moments as well. [NULL] 907 May 24, 2015 Share May 24, 2015 (edited) My favourite is probably Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Yeah I know, that's about as original of an answer as saying Ocarina of Time is the best game of all time. Not only was Amnesia a terrifying experience, but you can tell that there was a lot of passion behind it. (Especially after listening to the developer commentary.) What many horror games try to do is make the game as stressful as possible, but it usually ends up making the game a chore to play. With Amnesia, they managed to have fun gameplay as well as invoke the most tension I've had in a horror game. Another one of my favourite games is is F.E.A.R. While it may not be nearly as scary as Amnesia or Silent Hill, I still like the idea of an action FPS with horror in it. It also helps that the firefights are pretty fun. However, if it didn't have the horror elements, it probably wouldn't be very memorable. I wish I could play Silent Hill 2, but I won't be able to play it until the day Konami decides to properly re-release it for a warm fuzzy. Jellyfish 135 May 24, 2015 Share May 24, 2015 I hate horror games, they stress me out, I play games to have fun not be stressed out. I can't say that I really have a favorite because I hate pretty much all of them.
Ziggy + Angel + Rain 11,307 May 24, 2015 Share May 24, 2015 Jurassic Park for SNES; the indoor, first-person segments. What's that noise that sounds vaguely like a bag of quarters being dropped onto a beanbag chair?!?!? Spin around quick! It's a friggin' 2D, pixelated Dilophosaurus spitting on you! That scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. 1 "It uses the faculty of what you call imagination. But that does not mean making things up. Guest June 1, 2015 Share June 1, 2015 Manhunt 2 is a fantastic horror game. Great story, great gameplay and it is set in the Grand Theft Auto 3D universe. I look forward to a Manhunt 3. Manhunt, huh? I remember the first Manhunt being quite good - never played the second. I heard it got censored for good, lol.

CosmicHooves 2,706 June 24, 2015 Share June 24, 2015 Half-Life 2 Now I know what you're thinking. "This isn't a horror game." Really? Because don't you remember the time when you had to go into Ravenholm? http://youtu.be/MM-Ir6D-ryA You know. That bloody, zombie infested, ghost town. At night. With nothing but your shotgun and crowbar to protect you. And the fast zombies... Scary as shit.

Mothra 781 December 1, 2024 Share December 1, 2024 I think the only real horror game I've played is the first FNAF game, but out of all the ones I've seen others play, it's probably Indigo Park. I mean who doesn't love this adorable little fella?
Cash In 23,331 December 2, 2024 Share December 2, 2024 Not much of a horror fan, but I really liked I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. Very eerie point & click game with some pretty clever but difficult puzzles. Characters and their backstories are solid and genuinely unnerving. Also, the mere idea of AM would've probably given me nightmares as a kid. The book it's based off is also pretty good! Would recommend! At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.
OverTheStars 325 January 10 Share January 10 I loved Little Nightmares a lot, the sequel too. I also like Alice: Madness Returns and Fran Bow. There's just something about horror games that focus on childhood and whimsical aesthetics that really strike a chord with me.

Raskolnikov 1,747 April 2 Share April 2 (edited) I *love* the concept of horror games - but I cannot stand cheap jumpscares and shock factor. I need at least decent writing and immersive atmosphere. Extreme gore and sexual violence for the sake of it are a 10 year old's idea of horror to me. I don't mind those things *inherently* but they need to serve a purpose besides just relying on my kneejerk response to the imagery. Which is why I adore Frictional Games' SOMA - the atmosphere of the game's setting and existential horror of the questions of human identity and continuity as well as ethics in extreme situations are interesting and stand up well even if the writing isn't perfect. At least they're not trying too hard :] they learnt a LOT from Amnesia which was my favourite game back in the day too. The Bunker was another step up for gameplay and truly might become the first Frictional game I'm interested in but may not finish from how scary it is. Oh yeah - Mikko Tarmia's work on the soundtracks nail the horror too and are a big reason I enjoy the games too. A+++!!! (I'd rather not talk about Rebirth.) What, you don't like the idea of clutching your belly and unborn baby to restore your sanity when it gets scary? Yup, nope. That was honestly absolutely horrific in the wrongest of ways. Amnesia: The Dark Descent will forever hold a special place in my heart, those voicechats in 2012 as we made our way through those hallowed halls were something else. Spark Thunderbass 1,990 June 4 Share June 4 I used to play a lot of Friday The 13th: The Game before it got delisted from Steam, all thanks to some dumb licensing dispute, I really miss playing it, as Friday The 13th is one of my favourite horror franchises. 1 Signature Done By Me. One particular game from 1993, The 7th Guest, served as my favorite as a kid. Setup those old 90s computer speakers the right way, count on spine chilling of any track. How long can you keep your cool walking in that maze? Which just so happens to be in the basement, that one door in the kitchen. Just don't run into that lady ghost dressed in white. It’s made by some of Dying Light’s developers but takes place in Southern Cal, which gives it a fun twist.
