gaming Do You Consider the Wii U to Be a Current Generation Console?

I just have a simple answer. Yes. Because it came after the Wii, which was 7th gen. Generations are the span of the console's lifespans. That's simply it.

Yes , it is an 8th gen. console. However, to me, it falls short in terms of hardware and software. I was really into Nintendo. I mean you could say I was stuck in the past. But, I moved on and gave up on them. I went with PS4 this gen. I've really become big on the Playstation brand. Unless Nintendo creates a console that catches my eye with great features and a unified online system, and maybe some new IPs. Honestly, I've gotten tired of Mario. Zelda isn't enough to make me buy a console, and we haven't heard anything about any new Metroid (which is probably my favorite Nintendo IP next to Zelda) But until then, I'm stickin' with Sony.

The Wii U has a ton of software that Nintendo hasn't bothered to tell anyone about.  Can't blame you for not knowing about it.

Overall that means that the PS4/XBO has KH3, FFXV (Game looks good, I won't deny), Driveclub, Order: 1866 and Uncharted.

 

Wii U has NSMBU, ZombiU, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Best Rayman Legends port, Wind Waker Remake, Sonic Lost World, Super Mario 3D World, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate w/ online, New Super Luigi U, Smash 4, Sonic Boom, Expand Dong Tropical Freeze, X, Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart 8.

 

Sony already has got their big guns working on announced games, MS are a joke in terms of game devs they own (What, you expect 343 studios and the dead husk of Rareware to make anything worthwhile?) and 3rd parties are most likely to include PC ports (Or more likely, be ported FROM PC) of their games as well. Say what you want about the Gamepad but it increases the chances of no PC port.

Oh this is an interesting argument...

 

How would you go about defining what a "current gen" console is and what a "next gen" console is? By my standpoint I would define a console as being current gen if it has been released and is currently available for retail. By that logic any console that has passed it's release date and is in circulation is a current gen console, because it's the generation that is currently a part of what we own, do you see what I'm saying?

 

So of course the Wii U is current gen, of course the Xbox One and Ps4 are current gen, they all use CURRENTLY EXISTING TECHNOLOGY no matter how inferior to the likes of any top of the range PC.

I didn't say Meh to any of those, I was point out 2 main facts.

 

1. Knack and Killzone were not the saviours people were expecting.

 

2. Download only indie games are not part of the whole equation, I missed out games such as Chasing Aurora for that reason. They are not heavyweights like KH3, Uncharted or Smash are, they are the figurative garnish on your plate while the full on games are the meat, no one is going to buy a PS4 so they can play N++ or Resogun but people would buy a console for the new Kingdom Hearts or Mario Kart, simple as that.

 

Also I explained why it's unlikely that there will be a Killer App coming in the next few years. In the end PC has and always will be 10 steps ahead of the console race, Nintendo at least realised that taking the side path was smarter.

I must have missed that part somehow. I don't really know how PC is ahead of the console race though. Games are all that matters and every console has games. I don't think it really matters how "big" those games are, if people want the games they are gonna get the console for those games.

It is most certainly an 8th gen console. I don't exactly think it was smart for them to release the wii U before the competition though.
